Would you rather stick with the current VAR or get rid of it?
Personally, I'd rather have it with it's deficiencies (which are in almost every match in which it intervenes) and all.
It can stop the rythm of a match, it can be used in favor of one team over the other, but still i find it so helpful... vidmate mobdro word counter
To some, those ref mistakes and not seen stuff were part of the beauty of football, but to me, adding VAR is simply progress. I prefer omission in some plays over not existing the tool at all.

Avid = Never miss again (births, deaths, marriages permitting)
Moderate = 5+ games a season
Armchair = 0-5 games

As it stands, get rid.
I was in favour of it and still am but it needs some serious work.
PS To say it favours one team is surely wrong unless you are accusing VAR/refs of bias.

Re: Would you rather stick with the current VAR or get rid of it?
It needs to adopt the "clear and obvious" rather than the 1mm rule.
Perhaps if a team appeals then it should go to VAR?
If a quick replay shows it is an obvious error then refer the ref to VAR?
If it takes more than 30-60 seconds to review then it's not clear and obvious.
Always have the same team of people in the VAR room, then you will get more consistency?

Keep but improve. It’s not a question for a binary referendum
Time limits, communication with fans in the stadium, use the screens, “clear and obvious” not hair’s breadth offsides. If all else fails, have a NFL-style challenge system.

It works, but it's not flawless. Get used to it!
From what I hear in different podcasts, it's mostly the pundits, who don't like VAR!

Stick with it although I would like to see it used more to show up the cheats who dive, push, grab and feign injury.

Not true. 67% of fans said it makes football less enjoyable.Malrom wrote:Keep!

How many decisions have actually been wrong?
Most of the pundits moans appear to have been because the rules are applied.
Still needs to be tweaked, but generally I’m happy.
I think the deal breaker will come when we give the VAR greater power/credibility. At the moment there seems to be a bit of taboo about undermining the onfield ref. If the offield ref is qualified AND has the benefit of TV and slow mos and multiple angles; surely we (and they) can accept he or she is in a better position to make a shout. It doesn’t take anything away from the on-field ref IMO.

In fact, they have been improving it over the last few weeks.
This is what they need to do :
1. The referee should be responsible for reviewing his decision (using a monitor). It makes much more sense for the ref to decide whether he had it wrong, rather than another, remote ref, making a fresh decision.
2. Stop calling offsides where it is within the margin of error of the existing technology.

Re: Would you rather stick with the current VAR or get rid of it?
Agree with 2 but hate 1 (realise I am in minority). Why rely on small monitor with possible glare on screen, reliant on someone else feeding images etc? Surely a qualified ref in a purpose built facility with all the technology at his hands is far better placed to make a judgement - and can do it quicker while play goes on or ref is dealing with moaning players.

I like Klopp's idea.of thickening the lines for offside. They could be a foot wide and only then would it be blatantly offside. I'd also have it based on the furthest forward body part OR on a point exactly in the middle of the chest rather than scoring..

Re: Would you rather stick with the current VAR or get rid of it?
That sounds like Clear and Obvious and Umpires Call.... so yes common sense etc.
The NFL have used it this season and the Super Bowl had a classic of rocking and rolling between frames which couldn't show if a foot was out of bounds before the ball crossed the plane for a touchdown. Offsides are far more indecisive than both things in the same shot....

If it’s a qualified referee and he/she has access to TVs and replays... why does it need an additional ref on the pitch to go and check?
Just accept the word of the VAR.
Just give VAR the power to decide instead of top toeing the ‘clear and obvious error my type rope.

Get rid. Players make mistakes and don’t get a second chance. Let’s just accept that officials do the same.
I’d love to know the percentages for fans present at games, rather than just fans in general.

I’ve added a poll... but ‘match going fan’ has so many permutations ie I think you are a spittles but as a lower league attendee your games are not directly impacted. So does that give you a different view to an armchair Villa fan?

Re: Would you rather stick with the current VAR or get rid of it?
Ditch. Complaining about a ref/linesman's human frailties is less frustrating than complaining about technology being too accurate. Then you have the delay factor and then you have the visibility factor for the people in the stadium.
If they keep it then they should scale it down considerably and put it in the hands of the managers. Give them 2 challenges a game and employ them cricket-style.

Re: Would you rather stick with the current VAR or get rid of it?
Well, I meant fans of teams affected. One of my teams, Oxford United, twice played against Newcastle recently, once with VAR and once without.
Can you really say that the first game was better? The two offside decisions were so blatant that VAR shouldn’t have been necessary. And if the first of Oxford’s late goals in the replay had been subject to VAR, maybe the momentum would have been lost and we wouldn’t have had such a grandstand finish.
I watch about 30 minutes of EPL football each week, but even then I turn it off if a decision goes to VAR. Celebrating a goal is an instant hit, a rush of emotions, and to have to interrupt that for a couple of minutes is just wrong, IMO.

It doesn’t get interrupted... even better, you get another half hit for the same price.

IMO it's a no brainer that some modifications are needed. But it's also a no brainer that it should be retained. The debate should centre on what modifications are needed for next season and what other aspects should be considered for later modification.
Personally as regards offside, I'd go back to the "daylight rule". Unless there is no daylight whatsoever between the relevant players, a goal should be allowed. Furthermore unless the VAR changes an offside decision within 60 seconds the initial on-field decision should stand.

Re: Would you rather stick with the current VAR or get rid of it?
Anybody seen any stats/data about the number of decisions
A) overturned
B) wrongly overturned (or not)
At think some of the earlier issue (and still) is the reluctance to go against the red. This ‘clear and obvious’ thing seems to be a millstone.
Note: clear and obvious doesn’t apply to offsides.

Probably given the incompetence in the administration of football. But I'd hope that it would be accepted that a goal would always be allowed unless daylight was DEFINITELY visible.

You have to draw a line in the sand somewhere. A bit like in tennis where you have to give a physical width to the ball as it bounces.
