Bench options (Best 4m def & 4.5m mid)

Post by sunbather »

I love a poll to gauge opinion. My current setup (viewtopic.php?f=99&t=130530&p=3335328#p3335328) has one 4m def and two 4.5 mids on my bench, and I think a lot of us will be utilising at least or one or two of these players.

I'm on Rico, Dendoncker, and Hayden at the moment.

Depends on late transfers? If Tarkowski leaves then I'm going with Gibson/Dendonkey. If not it will likely be Rico in the hope I'll get 2 or 3 starts before I wildcard GW4.

Waiting until 5pm tomorrow to decide this.

Gibson's undoubtedly the best choice if Tarkowski leaves.

However if not, it's a bit of a toss up between Rico and Lundstram for me. Lundstram's had lots of pre-season minutes and it says a lot that Wilder hasn't tried to sell him, but most Sheffield United fans really don't rate him, so it's tough to know how much he will actually feature. Rico on the other hand will likely lose his spot sooner rather than later, but at the very least has a decent chance of starting GW1.

None of the others are worth considering imo - not even Kelly, now that Palace have signed Cahill.

Midfield-wise however Dendoncker however has been in my squad since day one. Most nailed £4.5m option.

The stats are dark and full of errors.

Dendoncker is a cut above the 4.5 mids so he has to be the first choice if you're looking for one. Even his underlying stats from last year are decent so he's a genuinely good chance of being a Capoue style 4.5 sub.

All the 4.0 defenders are majorly risky at the moment, I'd echo the sentiments above about late transfers as a Burnley defender at 4.0 would be good value.

For the short-term, Kelly would be alright. He's sure to start with Tomkins and Sakho not back from injury and Cahill yet to get match fit (presumably). But if Tarkowski leaves, then that's a bonus as I'd have both Kelly and Gibson in my squad.

If The Donck plays almost every week, he's capable of reaching a century of points.

As much as I hate to rain on the Dendoncker parade, Wolves are being strongly linked with a move to sign a new CM (Lemina, Kessie etc) - here's hoping he hangs on!

Wolves fan here.

Lemina is a no go. We wanted him on a loan and option deal, Southampton want a straight sale.

Kessie is a no no. Too expensive.

Mo Besic joins Sheff Utd on loan. Not sure what that means for Lundstram's minutes.

Bench options

Post by Beadling Boy »

Trying to sort out my bench. What is the % chance that these players get some playing time on GW1?

1.) Wickham
2.) Lundstram
3.) Dendoncker
4.) Button
5.) Stekelenburg

Any other suggestions for players (same cost range as mentioned in my list)?

Exactly my thoughts but don’t know Burnley well enough to know if he’ll jump straight into the starting 11

Your bench picks certainly look like the boys of summer to me.

Think I actually meant Hanley?!

Man I love Henley - saw them play Wembley in June. Hero.

My Boys of Summer are hopefully also the boys of Aug to May!!!

So I've gone for a 4.0 defender who is a back-up of one my my 4.5 defenders. In this case, I've picked Johnson as back-up to Fredericks, although being aware Zabaleta is also lurking around.

I'm trying to decide between button and 1/2 mil in the bank or Ryan. Thoughts anyone? I have Pope too so I'm not spending much on keepers.

Weisenwolf! Good to see you again :D

I think the majority answer would be take Button and invest the other 0.5 in your starting XI.

Any special reason that everyone’s 4m keeper is Button?

In many cases it's because GK1 is Ryan, so if he doesn't play then Button will.
If your GK1 is someone like Pope or Heaton who doesn't have a 4.0 backup then Button is as good as any other really.
