4.5m midfielders

Can prove useful if you know your stuff.

Who would you rather have as the midfield enabler?

If Dendonker looks like he'll keep his place in the Wolves team then him for sure. :)

As Wolves fan, what I cna tell you about The Donck is that he's been terrific and he'll keep his place. He's been more box-to-box than a holding midfielder which might bode well for points. Best choice for me.

Yep, agree about Dendoncker, he's played a key role for Wolves since Nuno tweaked the formation.

Perhaps i'm playing this game wrong but i'd rather have an 11m & 6m player rather than 12.5m salah and 4.5m garbage.

If you're playing both then yes, just. But those combinations are very difficult to analyse without the rest of the squad shape. The spots you suggest are generally not the final slots decided upon in a squad make-up - a 4.5mn will be in most squads somewhere, as the default bench option. Long term, Dendoncker looks ok as that option. If you go 5 in midfield in a 3-5-2 or 4-5-1, then yes, a 4.5mn mid is not an option as we stand.

Dendoncker seems the obvious one... I was wondering about Choudhury too - looks a good player but is he basically a DM?

I had Dendoncker for a while at the end of last season and he popped up with the odd goal/assist, agree he's the best shout at face value.

One slight concern is that I prefer my 4.5m cheapie not to use a slot from a strong team. Perhaps it's less of an issue now with Wolves, as Doherty etc. have been priced up, but for a spell last year I had Doc/Jota/Jimenez and it worked really well. It obviously matters much less than the likes of City & Pool, but all other things being equal I'd still prefer to get a solid 2-point MFer from the likes of Brighton/Newcastle/Burnley etc.

Any chance for Chalobah to get back to his former potential?

He gets himself up the pitch at times but can't recall him being in a position to shoot and tends to do the wrong thing when in an assist position. Hard to say how much he will play over the coming season too. Hasn't been given a good run in the team yet and the majority of his appearances have been against the big 6.

What I want to know before anything with these guys is whether they are starting material or not.
Can anyone provide a list of which 4.5 mids are in the first eleven?

Could maybe look them up on FPL to see what minutes they got last season?

Any that got more than 1000 you could google to see if they all came during a particular period ie were they a starter but get injured or did they ply in to the team and become a fixture?

Feel free to then share.

Going by that, we have:

Obiang (whu)
Dendoncker (wol)
Hayden (new)
Mendy (lei)
Oriol Romeu (sou)
Guendouzi (ars)
Stephans (bri)

The problem I've had in previous years is that the outstanding choice (like Dendoncker) gets picked by virtually all the active FPL players, then doesn't get any returns (unsurprisingly, that's not really why we're getting him), but enough people sell him for some budget player who flukily hauls in GW1 to cause an early price drop or two.

The secret is to find a solid but unpopular pick. Often comes from a promoted team.

I'm not sure about any of the alternatives in that list. I haven't looked in detail but:
- Hayden and Stephens have new managers so we need to wait for pre-season games to guess the likely lineup
- didn't Mendy lose his spot when Choudhury started playing?
- Obiang, Guendouzi not sure?
- Romeu I'd guess is the likeliest starter but he has almost zero attacking threat and gets loads of bookings

This is true (RLC from two seasons ago), but it's only a problem if the player gets injured. So long as he's playing, if he's the best choice, then its worth keeping even if everyone knows hes the best choice (Capoue a few years back for example).

I think I didn't get Capoue that season because I was applying the same logic.... so maybe there's a flaw in my arguement  . Think I'll just get Dendoncker and concentrate on the other 14 decisions. Thanks

If he can start locating his teammates with his passes I'll certainly be surprised.
