The Rounded Keeper - FPL Pub Talk & Matchday Banter 2019/20

Welcome to the Rounded Keeper 2019/20!

As a new decade approaches, the shadowy landlord of our favourite sticky-carpeted establishment is feeling uncharacteristically misty eyed (his Doctor says its cataracts, but our publican had enough of experts in 2016). He's been working late into the night adorning the walls with FISO memorabilia, FPL memes and suspiciously candid long-lens shots of Gretchen. Doing this work with 20% visual acuity and an industrial rivet gun has caused some short term staffing issues, but overall the ambience is improved.

Meanwhile, our resident robo-intoxicologist has been hard at work completing the new Mauro Boselli Lounge - it looks great from the outside and I'm sure that it's gonna be a massive deal all season long.

Welcome back and good luck for the new season!

Evening chaps. Can't see a thread for it, so I'm announcing here I'll be taking a real step back from FPL and Fiso this season. I'll still have a team, but I won't be trying very hard, and certainly not in any cash leagues.

I'd like to thank all of you who've provided advice, tools and general info over the years, and a massive thank you to everyone who has ever run a sidegame. I know it must take loads of effort, and not always for great rewards.

I hope The Graduates 5AS team find a new captain and participate again, 5AS is one of my favourite sidegames, and I'm extremely proud to count myself as a former winner.

I'll still be popping in from time to time, and maybe I'll get the bug again when my half-arsed GW1 team is ranked in the top 10k!

Cheers to you all, and may the odds ever be in your favour.

BobMem.

Grab a stool and put your feet up near one of those pictures of Gretchen and hopefully we'll see you back in earnest after a bit of a break. :D

Sad to see you step away, but I'm glad that you'll have more time to invest in other parts of your life. Thanks for your 4,000+ posts (especially your contributions in the STC) and your captaincy of a 5AS team, I'm sure that I speak for everyone when I say that you'll be missed and it would be great if you find time to pop in from time to time to say hello.

Good luck!

Hope everyone has a great season.

This is surely the toughest season in regards to getting big guns in your team, but looking forward to it like every season 😊

At the moment I have Salah, Robertson and Aguero which is proving to be rather challenging.

I feel your pain, i contemplated leaving liverpool attacking players and going for robertson TAA and VVD to accomadate other big guns but even that has took a lot from my budget.

Looking forward to seeing what everyone else is thinking, but there is plenty of players still to be added yet, ive not really seen any stand out bargains that are a must have just yet

Che Adams signs for Southampton.

Will he replace Ings? Complement Ings?

I think, and it's only a hunch, that they will both play but it will really push Long and Austin right down the pecking order to the point that they may not even get bench time. Therefore no cameo appearances so pointless having them in a squad.

Lacca
Zaha Auba

Presumably? Or would one of Lacca/Auba be rested more often?

Just watched it take 4 minutes to award a penalty in the Women's world cup, presumably to check whether it was a "clear and obvious" mistake not to give one. Just a farce. Not looking forward to VAR at all.

Agreed. VAR is a big pile of shite. I can only hope it dies a painful death but I think it's here to stay unfortunately.

That was a clear penalty which probably wouldn't have been awarded without VAR because the touch was so slight (yet clear in the replays). What a farce indeed, penalties are awarded correctly in these days

It’s a sack of shit and will ruin the game for the supporters actually attending games.

We won’t be able to spontaneously celebrate a goal because we’ll never be sure it will actually count. What’s all that about?

If the touch was so clear in the replays why did it take 4 minutes?

Spiny - any clip of a non-injured player rolling around for 4 minutes would be most welcome. Even the it would be the exception, VAR delays will become the norm unless they sort it out. And it should not be introduced until it is sorted.

Ref should have 2 views of it max, then make a decision. It's for "clear and obvious errors" after all.

regarding the African tournament, are we expecting Salah, Sane, Zaha and others to be at risk of being rested in the first week or two of the season?

edit - am assuming the South American one finishes soon enough to not cause any problems in this respect.

It wasn’t that clear, even in the replays. You even say the touch was “so slight”.

A slight touch doesn’t equal a clear penalty. Or at least it shouldn’t.
