Fantasy Eurovision 2019

Post by Shaggy365 »

With the first semi-final taking place today, it has reminded me to run the annual Fantasy Eurovision competition. After the second semi-final, the list of runners & riders will be posted here. I'm thinking of a slightly different format this year, so tune in next week and realise that it's already finished.

Czech Rep is full but should qualify, given the previous dross. Maybe an outsider place but anodyne to be polite....

So the excitement is building. The line-up so far is :
France - Automatic qualification
Germany - Automatic qualification
Italy - Automatic qualification
Spain - Automatic qualification
UK - Automatic qualification

Israel - Hosts

Australia - Semi-final 1 qualification
Belarus - Semi-final 1 qualification
Cyprus - Semi-final 1 qualification
Czech Republic - Semi-final 1 qualification
Estonia - Semi-final 1 qualification
Greece - Semi-final 1 qualification
Iceland - Semi-final 1 qualification
San Marino - Semi-final 1 qualification
Serbia - Semi-final 1 qualification
Slovenia - Semi-final 1 qualification

At the moment I'm still considering which style of competition to run. The possibilities are :
1. A Final table prediction competition, a bit like Vid's premier league competition.
2. My usual pick 4 countries and the most points gets it.
3. Predict which country will each set of judges give the 12 points to (but considering Cyprus & Greece have both qualified, this makes it more about national friends, rather than who they think is best).
4. Still thinking.

I was thinking similar, maybe 2 or 3 for each?

4 of each would be effectively be each of us only picking 3 to lose us points as we'd all also pick the UK

OK, so now my mind's wandering. Maybe choose 4 to score & 4 to lose, but if everyone chooses the UK to score, then you get less points because everyone has chosen UK (which may or may not happen. Other entries are available). Basically a bit like the bookies, so if all the punters back 1 horse, then the odds on that horse shorten.

Set a reminder on my phone to think about this tomorrow at work, but there's a real danger at the moment that I could make it too complicated. Much prefer simple entries and simple rules so simple people like me can understand it. 8-)

Would favour:
1. A Final table prediction competition, a bit like Vid's premier league competition.
This would be simple to enter and administer and also means everyone playing has to consider prospects of all 26 songs/acts.

Here we go then. I've decided to bow to popular opinion, but also make it quite hard to choose an entry.

Below you will see the list of countries that are lucky/good enough to have made it through to the final on Saturday 18th May. There is a +ve points value against each country and also a -ve points value. You just need to pick 4 countries to score you +ve points and 4 countries to reduce your score. You have a total budget of 400 across your 8 countries. Post your entries on this thread.

Code: Select all

Fantasy Eurovision 2019

		+ve -ve points
Netherlands	100	1
Australia	93	2
Sweden 86	3
Switzerland	79	4
Azerbaijan	72	5
Russia 66	7
Italy 60	9
Iceland 54	11
France 49	13
Norway 44	16
Malta 39	19
Greece 35	23
Cyprus 30	26
Nth Macedonia	26	30
Spain 23	35
Czech Republic	19	39
Denmark 16	44
Serbia 13	49
Estonia 11	54
Belarus 9	60
Slovenia	7	66
United Kingdom	5	72
Albania 4	79
San Marino	3	86
Israel 2	93
Germany 1	100
Good luck everyone. Can morganb become a 3-time consecutive winner?

Champs away!

+ve

Netherland 100
Australia 93
Denmark 16
San Marino 3

-ve

Israel 93
Czech Republic 39
Nth Macedonia 30
Cyprus 26

Total = 400

(Hopefully this is right - I've taken the cost in the +ve column for those teams that I want to score me points and the cost in the -ve column for those countries whose score will be taken away from the positive total)

Exactly how it's supposed to be. In fact, if the entry deadline was now, you'd become a 4-time winner due to current low entry count at the moment.
