And is that it? Six extended episodes and it’s all done?

Yes, that's been known for some time, although I wondered if they might change plans after season 7, of which parts felt a bit rushed. But at the end of that, yes, we'll know who (if anyone) sits on the Iron Throne for evermore...

All is not lost though, HBO have already made plans for the long winter. A prequel/spin-off show (set thousands of years earlier, so won't feature any existing characters, except perhaps White Walkers!) is already in development, probably on screen in 2020, and it might not be the only one. So we'll be revisiting Westeros for many years to come... it's obviously a money-spinner of a TV universe, so hope they keep the quality up.

Winter is Coming!

Thought the BBC were showing a sneak preview on sunday night but turned out that the clans gathering at Winterfell were actually emperor penguins.

Solid opener, lots of reunions and got the Jon revelation out of the way early... expect the action to heat up quickly from now on. Who will be the first big name to fall? Will they dare kill off any Stark/Lannister/Targaryen before the last couple of episodes?

Good episode, like being at a mates wedding and seeing lots of old familiar faces for the first time in a while.

Reminded me I dislike “Danny”; so far up her own arse, she needs to get over herself.

Sansa has turned in to a bit of a dick too.

The dragon joy ride was a worthless bit of padding and all a bit twee.

Love the Hound and love how aloof and weird Bran is.

It wasn’t - I think there are two or three towards the end that are closer to the 90-minute mark.

They get progressively longer as the series moves forward, longest in 98 mins I think (before ads)

A fairly slow episode, especially compared to last season but what was required imo. Tying a lot of threads back together and allowing us to reflect on so many character arcs and how they have intersected over the coarse of the series.

Loved the look on Jaime's face and the preview of next weeks episode looks like it will be quite hairy for him. I'm hoping for Brienne to defend him in a trial by combat!!!

Tip of the wedge being driven between Jon and Dany as well, not because Jon is the rightful heir but because others have started to realise that Dany has a bit of her father in her.

Yep, i even think there is a suggestion that Jon's life could be in danger if / when Dany learns the truth.

Solid episode, some great scenes bringing us full circle (in particular the final scene between Bran and Jaime). Although I'm a little concerned that they've not left enough time to deal with it all properly.

It’s almost like they will be leaving enough loose ends to resurrect it at a future date ;)

I do think Tyrion and Varys would try to talk her down from that and the threat from the north would surely ease that temptation but I guess that is part of being mad, logic doesn't always come into it.

Part of the shock on Jaime's face is that, as far as those in the south are aware, Bran died at the hands of Theon. Its not just the shock of remembering what he did, who he was it is the realisation that they didn't know everything.

Worth mentioning the 90 minute catch up too which informed/reminded me of some of the history of all the previous seasons.

Decent start to the new series. We got ( ) ( ) and we got dragons.....

I thought it was a bit flat after the hype.

Perhaps we ought to have a sweep on which major character dies next ?

A Baratheon and a Stark getting together just as was said in the first season. Potential rulers depending on who dies?

I love the inscrutable, hard-as-nails look on Sansa's face. She's the only one who won't defer to Dany. (Beautiful girl, too )

Meanwhile, is Jon Snow the wettest character on TV? The biggest mystery in GoT is why Dany fancies him

because he is so honourable :D

I'll have to rewatch some of the earlier series' but has John Snow ALWAYS used the the Jack Bauer delivery? Never noticed the husky hushed tones as much as i have this series.

As for last night... hands up how many googled Aryas age. Made for uncomfortable viewing.
Having seen her grow up during the show the character (and actress) - it was a bit weird seeing her in that capacity.

(turns out the character is 18 and the actress 22)

Nothing age wise in real medieval times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lady_Margaret_Beaufort

Margaret was 12 when she married the 24-year-old Edmund Tudor on 1 November 1455. The Wars of the Roses had just broken out; Edmund, a Lancastrian, was taken prisoner by Yorkist forces less than a year later. He died of the plague in captivity at Carmarthen on 3 November 1456, leaving a 13-year-old widow who was seven months pregnant with their child.

Taken into the care of her brother-in-law Jasper, at Pembroke Castle, the Countess gave birth on 28 January 1457 to her only child, Henry Tudor, the future Henry VII of England. The birth was particularly difficult; at one point, both the Countess and her child were close to death, due to her young age and small size. She never gave birth again.

After the first episode being a bit of a damp squib, the second was much better. Some great lines from The Hound and Tormund. Really can't wait for battle to commence....but who is going to die ?

Another slow burner really but punctuated with some fantastic lines and moments, I could have watched an hour of just that group around the fire sharing stories.

Interesting we didn't see the Night King or Viserion right at the end, any chance the force at Winterfell is a distraction whilst the bulk of the army heads further south? Although Surely Tormund's band would have noticed there was no dragon with the group when they rode past them to Winterfell.

Not feeling too good about Grey Worm's chances, having made the mistake of discussing his post war retirement plans!

Pretty sure Theon will die, for the Starks and thus restoring his honour. That character's arc is complete.

Jaime could go, but still need a reckoning with Cersei.

The Brienne knighthood suggests she could be done for.

Surprising we’ve got through two of six episodes without any major action or casualties, but I suppose we were always going to have the build-up to the big battle. I thought there might be the odd shocking twist ahead of that though...

Agree with a few of those being set up to fall next week - Grey Worm, Theon, Brienne... probably Edd and Beric as well, Lyanna Mormont perhaps. Jaime and the Hound have unfinished business down south so I suspect they will survive. Will we lose a real big name or will they all make it to the last couple of episodes? Also I can see another dragon going down in flames in the process of seeing off his zombie brother... one left (probably Drogon) to attack King’s Landing?
