TFF chit chat 15th, 16th, 17th and 18th February
FRIDAY 15TH FEBRUARY
FIFTH ROUND
QPR 19:45 Watford
The first of this weekend's 6 FA Cup ties is a Friday night fixture featuring Queen's Park Rangers of the Championship against the Premier League’s Watford. QPR have been on a poor run since Christmas and are currently lower mid table so shouldn't pose too much of a threat to a Watford team who will probably rest the majority of their first teamers.
SATURDAY 16TH FEBRUARY
FIFTH ROUND
Brighton 12:30 Derby
Just the two matches with any TFF involvement on Saturday, the first of which is the early kick-off between Brighton and Frank Lampard's Derby County. A month ago Brighton would have probably considered giving the FA Cup a good go, now however their League form has turned to poo so Prem survival should be their main focus. FLDC are in form and might cause a cupset today.
Newport 17:30 Man City
The second fixture is the late match where Manchester City must travel to the Welsh side of the bridge to take on Newport County of League 2. I think everyone is expecting another Man City cricket score but the League Two style of play might be a bit of an eye opener for the Premier League prima-donnas. Expect Jesus to start.
SUNDAY 17TH FEBRUARY
FIFTH ROUND
Bristol City 13:00 Wolves
Two more games on Sunday, the earlier of which gets underway at 1pm and has Bristol City hosting Wolverhampton Wanderers. Bristol City are another Championship side who are still in the Cup. They are sat in the play-off positions at the moment so may see the Cup as an unwanted distraction. Wolves however should treat this competition as their best chance of silverware. They fielded a strong defensive line-up in the last round.
Doncaster 16:00 Crystal Palace
At 4pm the second match gets underway and features Crystal Palace versus Doncaster. Donny are occupying a play off spot in League One so might not put up too much of a fight today. Crystal Palace will be torn between keeping their Cup run going and the possibility of being sucked into a Premier League relegation battle. A rotated Palace side should still be strong enough to get through.
MONDAY 18TH FEBRUARY
FIFTH ROUND
Chelsea 19:30 Man Utd
And finally, the weekend's big match - Chelsea versus Manchester United. Both teams come into this match off of the back of a high profile loss. OGS lost his first match as Utd manager in mid-week but more importantly lost Lingard and Martial to injury. Chelsea were drubbed by Man City last time out. The FA Cup might be considered a lesser competition by these two but the winner here will receive a huge morale boost.

FA Cup point(er)s
From this year, Fifth Round ties will be decided* on the day. Any match drawn after 90 minutes will be settled by extra time and penalties.
In the TFF game, points are not awarded for FA Cup penalty shoot-outs.
* The FA had agreed in 2018 that fifth round replays in 2019-20 would be scrapped to make way for a winter break that season. However, after Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham all qualified for this month's European knockout stages, the FA chose to bring forward the decision and remove fifth round replays in 2018-19.
For info, just two of this weekend's cup ties will benefit from a Video Assistant Referee:
- Brighton v Derby
- Chelsea v Manchester Utd

I think its rubbish that penalty shoot out points don't count anymore, makes them totally meaningless from a fantasy perspective.... all those points going begging....
That VAR is only in 2 of the games is just daft too, its not a level playing field, VAR all of them, or none if they can't all be done.

I disagree on your VAR point muldoon .... it only has to be a level playing field between the 2 teams playing each other, not between different matches .... for example, one game may have a ref who is more likely to brandish yellow cards or give penalties .... one game may be on a 'dodgy' tier-three pitch .... as long as the two opponents have the same conditions then I think it is fair

I see your point here, but surely the bigger picture is the level playing field of the tournament?brencarr wrote: ↑14 Feb 2019, 21:15I disagree on your VAR point muldoon .... it only has to be a level playing field between the 2 teams playing each other, not between different matches .... for example, one game may have a ref who is more likely to brandish yellow cards or give penalties .... one game may be on a 'dodgy' tier-three pitch .... as long as the two opponents have the same conditions then I think it is fair
If one team progresses courtesy of an offside goal or dive, and another team doesn’t because - that’s not a level playing field?
Giving one game extra officials to make a decision is like playing to different rules, shorter games, smaller pitches etc etc

Fair point
In my mind I was thinking 5 or 7 a side pitches, as opposed to the yards perimeters for 11 a side. But I’ll give you that one.

Quite happy for penalty shootout points not to count and think it makes sense.

I’ve still got Pereyra, can’t quite decide who to rid him for, none of the other Watford players appeal either

First 5 flanges all feature just one TFF team - and none of them are on saturday at 3pm. Tis a strange weekend.

Had a quick look at some of the Fiso super leagues (overall, tenners) and unsurprisingly there was a barely a point to be seen. Could be a serious damp squib of a weekend depending on Guardiola's team selection. Assuming Jesus starts, who'll be putting him in for the possibility of a Berahinoesque 27 pointer?
Edit, that was a 32 point week for him. Not sure how many just from the cup game.

Brighton have made eight changes from their last Premier League game for this FA Cup tie.buttonphobic wrote:Just in case anyone cares Gross is on the bench but no sign of Murray
Only Shane Duffy, Dale Stephens and Jurgen Locadia keep their places.
Top scorer Glenn Murray isn't in the squad.
Brighton: Button, Bruno, Duffy, Burn, Bernardo; Kayal, Stephens, Bissouma; Knockaert, Locadia, Jahanbakhsh.
Subs: Sanchez, Bong, Gross, Montoya, Gyokeres, Molumby, Ostigard.

I suspected that last night's update had gone wrong in some way. I'm chairman of a 43-team super League and all 43 of us earned nil pwun from last night's game which was difficult to take on board with the likes of Capoue, Deeney, Gray and Cleverley, not to mention the defenders, picking up points....

All 0 for me. Quite a range of positions but my best position in the weekly is 71000 (ties spilt based on time of entry?)muffler wrote:I suspected that last night's update had gone wrong in some way. Can't be 70000 who scored last night can there.....
42 scorers in the FISO league (inc 5 weekly attempts from Adrian Frost)

Ive been wrestling with this one. If Jesus starts today there must also be a chance of him starting against West Ham in the next again weeks mid week game on the basis Serg will most likely start the CL game and EFL final. If, buts and maybes. I can’t see me doing this in many teams.Darbyand wrote: ↑16 Feb 2019, 11:29 Could be a serious damp squib of a weekend depending on Guardiola's team selection. Have to get rid straight after. Why hold him over a blank weekend when he only 'might' play the next week. Lots of 2 for 0s and a 3 for 0 (Wolves) even if he does play.SPR wrote:Good point Jamjack, it's certainly a tempter.

If it's Aguero out for Jesus then back in next time the former starts (and you're conserving transfers) Jamjack's scenario holds.

That's my scenario too. I think I'll do it generally. Got 14-17 left in most of my teams. Looking like more than enough as you'll only need City cover plus maybe one or two from the winner of Chelsea/United to cover the cup this season. Can't see too many decent 3 for 0 opportunities cropping up between now and May, save for maybe a single transfer 3 for 1 on the cup finalists ....and that could be covered as above.
