I never do. TFF always has issues early doors. I (and they) rely on you kind folks beta testing it for them.
Maybe if you did, you might win something one day

I entered a few teams as something to do before the proper game gets launched.

Good debate here. Seems to have some tactics for multi teams however what would be the best approach for a single entrant? Best to avoid putting all eggs in one basket or does going for a mixed defence mean getting stuck behind too easily and not being able to catch up?

Guys daft question as I've not bothered much recently... Was a clean sheet always 5 points? And when did transfers go up to 40 😕

If you want to win the whole thing then you need to take a high variance approach which means all defenders and keeper from the same team. For a mini league this isn't required.

If you take a high variance approach you are likely to burn, the point is multi entrants just need a few to fly.

No, two changes last year : clean sheets 4  5 (but limitations on partial clean sheet), transfers 30  40. Nothing changed this year.

You are correct regarding short haul games, I'm not so sure season long, yes the block approach for a multi might work if you break out of it after the start or strike it lucky and switch at the right time but if any off the seasoned good players were to post their stratagy I would suggest they still play the game in the normal way.

Cheers zip!

With 5 points for a clean sheet, do single entrants stand a chance against the defensive blocks of the multis?

Think it was more than a year ago but who cares.

Anyway the defenders who concede also gained a point so it was, effectively, a point extra for all starting defenders (muddied by the partial CS rules). Makes play-every-week defenders better value. In some ways that makes blocks less valuable as a mixed defence can include more regular players. Look at the rotation at Spurs and City for example, or Liverpool RB last year.

I think I'm going to start with one up front in Aubameyang but would love an option of a 5 - 4 - 1 formation until the likes of Kane/De Bruyne/ Pogba and Lukaku get going again.

Do we know who might not be available for the start of the season due to the WC? Is it as easy as all from Belgium England France and Croatia. I’d be gutted if I can’t pick Lovren......

Understandble. He is the best defender in the world

I only started my 2018 study last night. I wasn’t expecting/planning to select too many of the WC players in my starting 11 but a good few of the clubs are now talking about their big guns being available for the first game (except Man U but I never believe Jose). The bigger consideration might be how fit / effective will they be if they do play the first match.

Interesting article in today's Observer discusses this point and includes stats by PL club on the 110 footballers who were in Moscow as well as their combined playing time (5,636 minutes).

I would like this option as well. As a formation that can be used, I'm not sure why it isn't offered? Currently I'm trying to find a fifth midfielder in a 4-5-1. A fifth cheaper defender looks easier.

Looking like 532 for me atm. Arnie at 5.2 being a decent filler will play every game was their player of the year and has scored 3 in last 1 1/2 games.

Thanks Sam. Even more interesting to see the underlying stats. But what to do?! I’m not going to load up on the Wolves and Huddersfield players and I don’t want to burn 10 transfers before the end of September. I’m trying to cast my mind back to the World Cup effect of previous seasons but I’m struggling.

I know the 4 Liverpool WC semi finalists (TAA, Mignolet, Lovren, Henderson) are only due back in training on the monday before the league season starts. And that is with only getting 3 weeks off (most are getting 4).

Pick Lovren then because I won't be ;)

Why is the season starting so early this year? I’d have seen 17th August as the “normal” start weekend, and after the World Cup I would expect it to be more likely a week late than a week early...

Lower divisions only a few days off having a July start... and the Skol Cup’s already in full swing north of the border ;)

Jose said similar )ie 3 weeks) re MU bods - Poch had Erik back after 2, I believe; and Pep had Mendy back sharpish, but then he didn't have a season before

Where the 4 has come from?

Why does Minger get extra time off, firstly he’s a keeper, and secondly didn’t even get on the pitch in Russia

Can I assume that 5 teams for £9.99 is the 'best' deal and there will be no early bid offers this year?

quizking wrote: 15 Jul 2018, 21:56 Hello to all, and cheer up andy! Thought would take a break from the proms to add some info and opinion;

Firstly, the mirror stopped running ff at end of 16/17 (even though you might still see a mirror logo on some app sites for FiT and indeed on some of FiT's own pages, they are slack at updating), and the mail used FiT last term (and for their world cup game this time around), but even that relationship hasn't worked out. Both mirror and mail have suggested (well, I asked them directly) that they might be back with new games this season; no indication of providers or maybe even in-house, but I would think more likely that games will return seeing as there is increased interest in football and hence perhaps ff thanks to the england relative success in world cup this year. Newspapers and indeed many other businesses, media and otherwise, will I'm sure be looking to jump on that bandwagon.
any news on all these extra games? or just tff (plus championship & probably champions league) sky & sdt (possibly champions league) i guess for cash and fpl for fun.

will be interesting to see the level of entry for tff this year.

Hi andy - nah, nothing yet, currently doubting mirror, seeing as they have been running puff pieces on FPL players and prices just as filler material but no mention of a forthcoming game of their own. Mail more likely as their current ff link still routes back to the FiT world cup game with no update to a new season game (whereas other FiT links have changed for their updated versions), but wouldn't be surprised to see mail launch a different game at the last minute, and then wonder why they had low entry numbers, yet again. 17 days to go before start of season, so will know more in about 13 days time i'd guess!

back in the day it took a very long time to convince most FISO members that this was unwinnable. was quite gobsmacked how some fairly bright members thought there was any chance of winning it, not sure some ever really got the maths, was quite sad seeing some actually planning for it! the whole idea was to pretend they had a prize fund on a level with sdt & ytm. some insurance company no doubt made a few easy £££ each year.

if players can't now see tff is under threat, well...........

this year may see a dramatic reduction in entries, time will tell.

a WARNING re PRIVATE LEAGUES, i entered one where the chair forgot to put in a prize pot, tff stupidly have no default in the rules (sure they used to have one - maybe i am wrong) for prize split on these leagues. therefore if the chair put nothing in then the prize split remains 0% to everyone!

whilst i believe the chair has told them what he would like the split to the entrants remains 0% each. i did say i wondered why tff were running these if there is nothing in it for them. 10 small minis if this remains the case they make a grand maybe i guess. with 25 of them they make enough to cover the whole 2nd prize in tff epl, not to mention those that don't go through the prize claiming process! potentially a very nice little earner ;) will those players be back for more?

if they wanted to pay out they would have a default and refund to cards used or at worst allow as credit against future entries.
