Week 16 - Super Sunday derby-day saw Liverpool and Everton draw 1-1 at Anfield (Klopp blames ref in post-match interview) and Man City won at Old Trafford (Maureen blames ref in post-match interview) .... apparently City are also 'lucky' .... what, to have 65% of the possession? (I have to say I haven't seen either game yet so obviously Klopp & Mourinho may be correct).
Harry Kane scored 2 in Spurs' 5-1 thrashing of Stoke and Burnley beat Watford 1-0 to keep up the chase in 6th & 7th respectively.
City are now the first team to win 14 successive English top-flight games in a single season (Arsenal did it over 2). As if that wasn't enough for City, Arsenal's draw at St. Mary's and Chelsea's loss at West Ham means City were the only team in the top 5 to win and are now 11 points clear - many a slip twixt cup and lip though.

Quite a low-scoring week this week, maybe because Burnley were the highest placed team (7th) to keep a clean sheet so not many defensive points around...

Leader up 39 - still Sandor Kovacs (brom19), now on 1,022
100th up 39
1k up 40
10k up 40
100k up 37

It looks like all of the lines a taking a downward turn ....

Week 17 - Top v. Bottom in this mid-week set of games and Man City won it 4-0 at Swansea to make it 14 consecutive Premier League wins. David Silva scored twice to make it 4 goals in 3 games for him, and maintain City's 11-point lead at the top of the table.
Man United beat Bournemouth (1-0), Chelsea won at Huddersfield (1-3) and Spurs beat Brighton (2-0) to keep up the chase. Draws for Liverpool & Arsenal means Burnley move into 6th place above the gunners and level on points with Spurs & Liverpool after they won 1-0 (again) with a late winner. Only the top two have conceded fewer goals than Burnley.

Leader up 55 - total 1,077 (Sandor leading for the 6th consecutive 'week')

Week 18 - Burnley kept a clean sheet again and now no team has conceded fewer goals than them, now there's a train I wish I'd been on - a back 5 costing £12.2m would have been just the ticket .... then again I nearly bought some Bitcoin last year too, so I've got form when it comes to missing out ... hindsight eh!?
This week it was Spurs' turn to try and stop the City juggernaut and though they kicked it as hard as they could it was to no avail, a 4-1 win made it 16 wins in a row. Liverpool won 4-0 at Bournemouth with Mo Salah scoring his 11th goal in as many games - he also became the first Liverpool player to score 20 goals before Christmas (all comps), since Ian Rush in 1986-87, impressive stuff.
Clean sheets and 1-0 wins for Chelsea and Arsenal helped out points-wise, especially as Alonso scored Chelsea's goal. United kept up the chase with a 2-1 win at West Brom.
Now then - a few weeks ago I remarked that the appointments of Moyes and Allardyce were a mystery to me .... what do I know .... both clubs are out of the bottom 3 now and Everton have won 4 and drawn 1 of their last 5 and are now only 6 points behind Spurs
Stoke are only a point above the drop-zone and I expect an announcement soon that Sparky has the full backing of the board.

Sandor Kovacs' brom19 shows no signs of slowing down at the top ....
Leader up 58 (to 1,135)
100th up 52
1k up 52

.... but, it does seem (as usual) to be all about transfers as we head to half way in the season next week. Looking at the graph you may be surprised to learn that there are 250 teams between the yellow 1k line and the dotted 53 pts/week 'target' line .... miles to go before we sleep.

Week 19 - Christmas week and the start of the festive fixtures, it truly is the most wonderful time of the year.

Arsenal & Liverpool started this week off with a humdinger of a game, drawing 3-3 at the Emirates. Apparently there were just 388 seconds between Salah putting Liverpool 2-0 ahead and Ozil scoring to make it 3-2 to Arsenal

Man City won 4-0 v Bournemouth and became the first top-flight team to score 100 goals in a calendar year since Liverpool in 1982 (106), Man United managed to concede a last-minute equaliser at 10-man Leicester which means City will be 13 points clear of United on Christmas Day - the biggest points gap between first and second place on Christmas Day in English top-flight history.

Harry Kane scored all 3 at Burnley in a 3-0 win. Spurs and Man City were the only teams in the top 10 to win! Kane's hat-trick means he has scored 36 Premier League goals in 2017 which equals Alan Shearer's 36 in 1995 for Blackburn.

Swansea are bottom for Christmas but still only 9 points behind 10th place, so no need to panic yet .... so they have sacked Paul Clement .... that will help - maybe.

With Kane's hat-trick, Aguero's brace and clean sheets for Man City, Chelsea & Spurs, the points were much higher than average this week ....

Leader up 75 (Still 'brom19', now with a 45 point lead)
100th up 64
1k up 64
10k up 60
100k up 51

Just a few stats on the leaderboard as we are half way through the Premier League fixtures
In week 19 last season the leader had 1,096 points, the current leader has 1,210 which is exactly 6 points per week more (114).
The 100th placed team last season had 1,004 points - this year there are approximately 2,000 teams above that score
There's a growing feeling that the hares may stay away for longer than normal this season - maybe transfers are not as low as the rest of us are hoping...?

Week 20 - let's call this 'Harry Kane week' as he gets his second hat trick in 3 days, here are a few stats on the England & Spurs goal-machine.
He scored 39 Premier League goals in the calendar year, in just 36 games, which is 6 fewer games than Shearer's old record of 42.
He is the first player in Premier League history to score six hat-tricks in a single calendar year, and he has scored more league goals this season than Bournemouth, West Brom, Swansea, Crystal Palace, Brighton and Huddersfield
Kane has scored 56 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham and England in 2017. He is Europe's top scorer over the past 12 months in the five major countries (England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France) .... Spurs have no game next 'week' (due to fixture amendments), but he should be the first name on everyone's team sheet when they return for two games the following week .... very well played sir.

In other news, Man City won their 18th consecutive league game, a run which is being bizarrely shadowed by West Brom, who failed to win for their 18th consecutive league game. United drew 2-2 again (2 in a row), Liverpool won 5-0 (Firmino is on fire), Sanchez scored 2 for Arsenal (is that a transfer window I hear opening?) and Chelsea kept up their good run with a 2-0 win.

Here are two facts that would have got you laughed out of your local 20 years ago had you suggested them .... Gearge Weah became President of Liberia this week and a centre-half has just been transferred for £75m .... I reckon Jimmy Greaves is ringing Ian St. John right now :) (with apologies to the younger FISO members out there)

Points all round again this week thanks to the usual clean sheets and goal-scorers .... although TFF Towers did try to rein the City points-scorers in, by only giving half of them any points in the first update!

Leader up 69 (9 consecutive for brom19)
100th up 69
1k up 67
10k up 62
100k up 51

All of which means that at this point of the season the target of 53 points per week is looking 'somewhat low' .... but we'll see

Week 21 - Happy New Year! A quick turnaround this 'week' as we have more games today :)
Man City have finally stopped winning, they drew 0-0 at Palace but needed a last-minute penalty-save from Ederson to maintain their unbeaten run. Injuries to Jesus and KDB are likely to give the chasing pack renewed hope.
Man United drew again and lost Lukaku to concussion, this means Chelsea's 5-0 thumping of Stoke moves them into 2nd spot and cuts City's lead to 14 points.
Mo Salah scored twice as Liverpool beat Leicester - Salah has the highest points tally as we end 2017 and is only one (TFF) goal behind Kane this season

Now - all this talk about Harry Kane and Mo Salah has obviously upset referee Mike Dean - because we've not been talking about him recently - how else can you account for THAT penalty decision?

The Spurs v West Ham game has been moved back a few days and so doesn't appear in this weeks scores but that will even out next week. One other thing to note when checking the graph is that, in the previous 2 seasons 'week 21' was F.A. Cup 3rd round week, when the scores are much reduced - this year it's not until week 23. That said - the fact that there are about 10,000 teams with a score that would have been good enough for the top 100 at this point last year is remarkable. A Man City/Chelsea defence with Salah in midfield and Kane up front is obviously making things too easy. This weeks injuries will give some managers a headache, especially if transfers are getting low.

Week 22 - this week Arsenal & Chelsea drew 2-2 in one of the 'games of the season' so far (unless you had Morata in your team  ). Hazard won and scored a pen in that game, he's a top player - no doubt - but someone should have a word about his facial hair
Man City, Man United & Liverpool (last gasp goal at Burnley) all won, Spurs won AND drew as they played their outstanding fixture from last week - a total of just 3 points for Kane was a disappointment to many.
A quick astronomy lesson - when there are 2 full moons in a calendar month they call it a blue moon - it's a fairly frequent occurrence. This year, however, there are 2 blue moons (Jan & March) - which only happens a few times a century. A double blue moon .... a Blue Moon double .... see what I (clumsily) did there? I can't believe I've waited 2 months to crowbar that in

Anyway .... there could be trouble at the top of the leaderboard, is there a transfer shortage for our runaway leader or was it just that Watford goal that meant City didn't keep their clean sheet? Things could be looking up for the chasing pack but Sandor still has a lead of 52 so there's still work to do.

Leader up 34 (to 1,369) brom 19

The magical rotation of the F.A. Cup is up next - is Lukaku really back for the home game v. Derby, is he worth the transfer if he is .... Kane out?

Week 23 - the F.A. Cup 3rd round 'proper' (I love that phrase - don't know why).

Early casualties for the Premier League as Arsenal; Burnley; Everton & Stoke all fall at the first hurdle. Stoke's loss at Coventry was the final nail in the Sparky coffin. Or, more likely, he now gets a month or two off before the next struggling club decides they need a new broom.

Replays required for Bournemouth; Chelsea; Leicester; West Ham & Swansea (which could make week 25 more interesting). Chelsea kept a clean sheet in their draw, which would normally mean points for many of us - but the back 5 were all 'rested'.

Virgil van Dijk made a dream start at Anfield - he scored the winner, at the Kop end, in a Merseyside derby .... priceless :)
Lingard scored again for United (Lukaku got the other one), Aguero scored 2 for City, Kane got 2 for Spurs and Perez got 2 for Newcastle.
The biggest upset was probably Arsenal's 4-2 defeat at Forest. Wenger would probably have been hoping that they didn't concede a penalty as they had in their previous 2 league games .... they conceded two

The final game of the round (Brighton v Palace) saw the introduction of the VAR system. I thought this may have been brought in to counteract Mike Dean, but as he wasn't officiating in this game, I can only imagine it was for Wilfried Zaha. Thankfully he was absent or we'd still be watching replays of him falling over

Well, normally this is a week with bad scores all round due to rotation, but Pep put out a strong City team, and with Kane starting for Spurs it didn't turn out too bad really.

Week 24 - Man City's unbeaten run came to an end as they lost 4-3 at Anfield (where they've not won for 15 years). Salah's goal was his 18th and he is only 3 points behind Kane as the TFF highest scorer .... and it was also from about 35 yards  .... strength-to-strength for him, and for Liverpool, who are up into 3rd as Chelsea draw 0-0 with Leicester.
Man United beat Paul Lambert's ( ) Stoke 3-0, which means City's lead has been cut to 12 points. At the other end of the table, only 10 points separate bottom club Swansea, and 9th placed Everton.
Kane (2) and Son were on target again as Spurs won 4-0, and Bournemouth came from behind to pile the pressure on Arsene Wenger. The Gunners slip further behind in 6th and Alexi Sanchez appears to be on his way to Manchester (insert club :?: ).
West Brom finally won a game this week - a clean sheet with goals from Dawson & Evans .... there were times when that used to be a dream result around here. West Ham won 4-1 at Huddersfield with Arnautovic scoring his 5th goal in as many games.

A good week scoring-wise, unless you had a Man City block. Sandor leads for the 13th consecutive week but is the only one of the 5 tracked positions not to score above 50.

Next week begins tomorrow, as we fit in the F.A. Cup 3rd round (proper) :D replays. If you have a few spare transfers, and the team news is good, there could be big points up for grabs (go on, you know you want to  )

Week 25 - two of the FA Cup replays showed the good and bad side of the new V.A.R. system this week. First of all Kelechi Iheanacho's goal for Leicester was reviewed, and given, after an offside flag had initially ruled it out. The following night Antonio Conte was up-in-arms as the VAR wasn't consulted to give Chelsea a penalty - a decision the MotD pundits thought was 'a shambles'. Early days but I think on the whole I like it (but what do I know?). Chelsea won on penalties after having 2 men sent off. Bournemouth crashed out at Wigan in the only upset.

Liverpool failed to follow-up on their great result of last week as they lost at bottom club Swansea. It's now ridiculously close at the bottom of the table .... just 6 points separate Swansea and 10th place (Watford) .... 6 of those clubs in the bottom 11 have already changed their manager this season, plenty of time for the others to follow suit. For the first time in my memory I don't think I can name all 20 managers in the Premier League :?

Alexei Sanchez & Henrikh Mkhitaryan have just been swapped between Man Utd & Arsenal. This could see an improvement in TFF points from Sanchez, and Micky can't get any worse than his poor run at Old Trafford - Wenger must see something that Mourinho doesn't - time will tell.

City were back to winning ways with a 3-1 win v. Newcastle. Aguero got a 'perfect' hat-trick (left foot, right foot, header), the first in the Premier League since 2015 when he got one .... v. Newcastle. Harry Kane scored in a 1-1 draw at Saints and, after last weeks 'blast from the past' with Evans & Dawson scoring, we had another old favourite this week - Leicester won 2-0 with Vardy & Mahrez on the score sheet. Arsenal & Chelsea both scored 4 in good wins with a brace for Hazard. Man United won 1-0 at Burnley.

It's the F.A. Cup next week - for 14 Premier League teams - do you have players in teams who are already out? Will there be as many 'B' teams out? Do you have the transfers left to do anything about it?

Scores this week are remarkably similar to last week, Sandor Kovacs is still there, with a lead of 18 points ....

Week 26 - FA Cup 4th round and lots of talking points .... Liverpool were knocked out (2-3) at the hands of West Brom, a brace for J-rod and lots of use of the VAR, a goal disallowed for the Baggies and a penalty given to Liverpool (missed by Firmino); Alan 'Dancing Fool' Pardew also reported that 2 of his players suffered hamstring injuries because of the VAR usage

Iheanacho scored 2, as did debutant Diabate, in Leicester's 5-1 win at Peterborough

The only other 'upset' was Wigan beating West Ham 2-0, (although there are replays for Spurs, Huddersfield & Swansea) the Hammers weren't helped by Arthur Matsuaku getting a red card for spitting at an opponent!

There are now 10 Premier League teams out of the cup, Liverpool's absence will be the one that hurts TFF managers the most (according to ownership stats).
Good wins by Man Utd, Chelsea & Man City (4-0, 3-0 & 2-0) saw them through ok, although Man City are still looking for Leroy Sane's leg after a dodgy tackle at Cardiff! Those clean sheets and goals from some of the 'usual suspects' meant scores were very good for an FA Cup weekend. Last year for the 4th round weekend all of the tracked positions scored under 20 points, this weeks are ....

Leader up 60 - still Sandor Kovacs' 'brom19', now on 1,550 (a lead of 12, with only 50 pts covering the top 15 teams)
100th up 59 - to 1,459
1k up 56

The fact that some of the top sides are fielding strong-ish teams in the FA Cup means that the anticipated dip in scores hasn't materialised. If you check out the bottom of page 4 of this thread you'll see that after week 26 last season the 100th place team had 1,285 points - this season (at the same point) there are almost 14k teams above that score!

Week 27 - a set of midweek fixtures.
Congratulations to Swansea and Carlos Carvalhal, back-to-back wins over Liverpool and Arsenal have moved them off the bottom of the table. The relegation fight looks like it's going to be quite something this season, at the moment only 7 points separate bottom (WBA) and 11th (Watford) .... and there's only 1 point between 14th & 19th
At the other end of the table Man City beat West Brom 3-0, whilst Chelsea lost at home to Bournemouth by the same score. Spurs beat Man United at Wembley with Phil Jones adding to United block-holders' woes by scoring an o.g. All of which means City's lead is now back to 15 points with 13 games to play.
Liverpool also won 3-0 (Huddersfield) and move into 3rd place on goal difference - Salah on the score sheet again - he now has 20 goals, 10 KCs and is joint top points-scorer with Kane.
Walcott (Everton) and Clucas (Swansea) both bagged a brace but I'm not sure they feature in many teams.

Sandor Kovacs shows no sign of slowing down at the top of the table, his team 'brom19' has been top for a total of 18 weeks, including the last 16. This week he's extended his lead to 21 points.

In 2 weeks the European competitions return and fixtures start to get re-arranged as the F.A. Cup reaches the final rounds .... plenty of opportunity to make great strides with those 20+ transfers you have left... I'm sorry, how many!? .... oh dear :)

Week 28 - A high-scoring week goals-wise, but not for most of our defenders. There were 35 goals in the 10 matches and only one team kept a clean sheet - Man United.
There was another cracker at Anfield as Spurs fought back for a 2-2 draw, Kane having one penalty saved and scoring another to cancel out Mo Salah's brace. Lots of controversy here (and no VAR), and I reckon referee Jon Moss is definitely off Klipperty's Weihnachtskarte list. Kane now has 100 Premier League goals in 141 appearances, second only to Alan Shearer who managed it in 124  Mo Salah has scored 21 goals in 25 games in the league, the fewest appearances of any Liverpool player to reach 20 goals in the competition.

Antonio Conte isn't having a good time of things at the moment so he needed a result at Watford. Unfortunately Bakayoko saw red and Watford won 4-1, probably time to get the CV updated Antonio.

Before the Arsenal v Everton game 'Big Sam' said Arsenal were 'defensively weak'. I wonder if these words came back to him as he watched Aaron Ramsey score his first hat-trick as Arsenal thumped Everton 5-1?

Man City didn't win again, a spirited Burnley held them to a 1-1 draw at Turf Moor with help from Raheem 'dead-eye' Sterling  . Man United's 2-0 win means the gap is closed to 13 points. United were the only winners in the top 5 and they're now 5 points ahead of 3rd place (Liverpool).

Low scores this week ....

Week 29 - Aguero scores 4 against Leicester to be the top points-scorer of the week, in a week where 23 players got double-figure points tallies.
Six of those 23 were Swansea players thanks to their 8-1 thrashing of Notts County in an FA Cup replay, and a 1-0 win against Burnley in the league. Huddersfield also have 6 players in that 23 as they won their replay 4-1 (a.e.t. v Birmingham) and also beat Bournemouth by the same score in the league. It was a good week if you had transfers spare and chose the right path .... e.g. 20 points from Kyle Naughton.

Talk of Antonio Conte's departure from the Bridge was put on hold thanks to a 3-0 home win over West Brom, Hazard with 2 of the goals. That defeat leaves the Baggies 5 points adrift at the bottom of the table - any of the 10 teams above them could still be in trouble.

Man United lost 1-0 at Newcastle - amazingly that's 7 games Mourinho has managed at St. James' park and has never won there (D3, L4)

Liverpool won 2-0 at Southampton with Salah & Firmino scoring the goals .... that sounds so familiar now I had to just quickly double-check I hadn't already told you that this week

Spurs also won their replay (2-0 v Newport Co.) and followed it up with a 1-0 win in the North London derby at Wembley, Kane with the match winner.
All of which means that Arsenal are being left behind a bit in 6th place as they are now 7 points behind 5th-placed Spurs. Man City's lead at the top is now up to 16 points with 11 left to play

The European competitions return tomorrow, more rotation required for Man City, Man United, Chelsea, Spurs, Liverpool & Arsenal over the coming weeks.

Next week the FA Cup returns (5th round) for the 10 remaining Premier League teams - do you need to use transfers to get more players in? It could be a low-scoring week. Not like this week as we had a bit of a points fest, maybe due to the replays but more likely due to the aforementioned 'usual suspects' getting on the score sheets ....

Leader up 84 (1,729) - Still Sandor's 'brom19' despite being headed mid gameweek he still has a lead of 11 points

Week 30 - The magic of the FA Cup is alive and kicking as Wigan repeat their heroic effort of the 2013 final, and knock Man City out. Not a great day for City all round as they have Delph sent off, Aguero lashing out at a pitch invader, Pep Guardiola having a rant at the officials and opposing dug-out and City fans misbehaving at the final whistle.
Spurs did amazingly well in midweek to come back from 2-0 down at Juventus but the same result away at Rochdale this week didn't impress quite as much, at least they had Kane on the scoresheet (for most of us) and there's now a chance of more TFF points in the replay. Swansea also have a replay after drawing 0-0 at Sheffield Wednesday.
Chelsea eased past Hull City with a 4-0 win, Willian with 2 goals and Giroud with his first for Chelsea (and 3 KCs) were the top scorers. Romelu Lukaku also scored twice in a 2-0 win for United at Huddersfield. Leicester beat Sheffield United 1-0 with Vardy (Mahrez) back together, Brighton beat Coventry 3-1 and Southampton won 2-1 at West Brom

Man City's exit was the headline news and will also (probably) have the most effect on TFF managers. They now have some testing fixtures coming up and no more FA Cup points available. Surely it's time for them to start concentrating on the Champions League .... and for us to start looking for alternatives.

A low-scoring week as predicted .... and .... after 18 consecutive weeks at the top, and 20 weeks in total, Sandor Kovacs' 'brom 19' has been replaced at the top of the leaderboard - albeit on count-back.

Leader up 10 - Gareth Gwilliam (Team 1) on 1,739

Week 31 - Man City win the League Cup 3-0 against Arsenal, no TFF points on offer but worthy of a mention

Liverpool ran amok again, this time against West Ham at Anfield, Salah and Firmino on the score sheet again. Salah is the most in-demand player in TFF, owned by 65% of all teams - I'm guessing the other 35% are mostly 'dead' teams. Just 2% behind is Harry Kane, who also scored this week in a 1-0 win at Palace.
The big game of the day was Man United v Chelsea, United came from behind to win 2-1, Willian (running into some form), Lukaku and Lingard with the goals.
Topping the points-scored table this week though were Dwight Gayle and Glenn Murray with 12 and 11 respectively. Gayle scored both in a 2-2 draw at Bournemouth and Murray scored two in a 4-1 win over Swansea, valuable points in the relegation scrap.
Burnley managed to concede a last minute equaliser (Saints) but are still 7th in the table, despite not having won since December 12th
West Brom's home defeat (Huddersfield) means that things are looking grim for the baggies - they are now 6 points adrift with 10 to play. 19th placed Stoke are only 6 points behind Bournemouth in 11th place so it's going to be a fight to the end for lots of teams - which is good for us TFF managers .... probably :?:

Only Watford and Spurs managed to keep clean sheets this week and with Man City v Arsenal re-arranged for next week the scoring was lower than average - and - look who's back ....

Leader up 41 (1,780) Sandor Kovacs - brom19
100th up 34 (1,671)
1k up 35
10k up 35
100k up 34

I've played around with the graph to (hopefully) give a better view of the run-in

Week 32 - A high-scoring week this week thanks (in part) to a couple of FA Cup replays (Spurs 6-1 Rochdale & Swansea 2-0 Sheff Wed) and a re-arranged fixture (Arsenal 0-3 Man City). A penalty save by Ederson in this match had a big effect on the TFF leaderboard as City defenders kept their clean sheet.
15 players managed to get double-figure scores this week, 8 of them were Man City players, the rest were Spurs & Swansea. Top of the list was Son Heung-Min who got 4 goals and 2 KCs for 29 points. He really is some player and also has an excellent attitude.

Arsenal managed to lose their other fixture at Brighton (2-1) which ratcheted up the Wenger Out calls. Man City beat Chelsea (1-0) in their other game, after which Chelsea were accused of Crimes against football by Jamie Redknapp. City's two wins this week mean that Chelsea & Arsenal are now 25 & 33 points behind respectively  The gap between Chelsea & Arsenal in 5th & 6th is now 8 points so things are indeed looking grim at the Emirates.

Salah scored again for Liverpool in a 2-0 win, that's 12 in 12 for Mo and 6 consecutive Premier League matches he's scored in - impressive.
Man United came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 at Palace thanks to Matic with a stunning stoppage-time winner.

West Brom lost at Watford and look doomed (7 points adrift), the struggle for the other two places at the bottom of the table is still a close-run thing with next 7 teams only separated by 3 points

This week ....
Leader up 90 (1,870) brom19 (Sandor Kovacs) .... hanging on in there with an 8-point lead

Week 33 - (braces are back in fashion!)

Arsenal, Newcastle & Burnley all won 3-0, the latter - at West Ham - sparked a couple of pitch invasions and some ugly scenes. Newcastle's Kenedy (£2.6m) and Burnley's Wood (£3.7m) both scored twice and could be worth bearing in mind when you're looking for your Aguero & Kane replacements this week  Harry Kane's ankle could be a medium to long-term issue.

David Silva also bagged a brace in a 2-0 win at Stoke as Man City move ever closer to a potential title-winning opportunity against Man United next month. With a lead of 16 points with 8 to play I think we can dispense with the 'if' and wonder about the 'when' .... and how it will effect Pep's selection for Premier League games.

Another player who scored two was Heung-min Son, as Spurs beat Bournemouth 4-1. Son has scored 6 in his last 3 Premier League games and also scored in the 2-1 loss v Juventus which saw them exit the Champions League in mid-week .... another result which could have a bearing on selections from here on in.

Two goals this week for Marcus Rashford as well, as Man United beat Liverpool in the battle for 2nd place. Liverpool's loss moves them down to 4th, just 4 points above Chelsea, who beat Palace 2-1 .... Palace have now lost their last 3 games by a single goal, to Spurs, Man United and Chelsea and are in the bottom 3 (with West Brom & Stoke).

Vardy & Mahrez both scored as Leicester also won 4-1, this defeat means WBA move closer to the drop.

Southampton have decided enough was enough and have fired Pellegrino - the 9th Premier League team to sack their manager this season

The big news on the TFF front is that we have a new leader. Gareth Gwilliam now heads Sandor Kovacs by 4 clear points and also has a team in 3rd place ....

Leader up 39 to 1,909 …. Team 1 (Gareth Gwilliam)

Week 34 - FA Cup quarter-final weekend and no game for 5 teams (notably - Man City & Arsenal). Wigan were finally knocked out of the cup by Mark Hughes' Southampton (I know :? ). One team that did have a game was Liverpool and .... Mo Salah is the gift that keeps on giving, this week he top-scored in TFF with 25 points (4 goals and a KC) and is now the leading goal-scorer for the season (29) and also leading points-scorer (242), Harry Kane's absence could have handed him the golden boot.
West Brom lost again and are surely doomed, 9 points separate 19th (Stoke) and 10th (Bournemouth).

The FA Cup semi-finals are now sorted - Man Utd v Spurs and Chelsea v Southampton.

The scores seemed pretty good this week ....

Leader up 69 - Gareth Gwilliam (Team 1) on 1,978 points, with a lead of 30
100th up 56 - to 1,851
1k up 53
10k up 50
100k up 43

There now follows an international break  , during which we will all be keeping our fingers crossed that there are no/few injuries .... unless we have plenty of transfers in hand, in which case we might be hoping for a few :)

Week 35 - Easter weekend and April Fools day.

I tried really hard but there's no way I can resist mantioning the fact that Jesus returned and scored for Man City in a 3-1 win at Everton. In the one-sided first half, Manchester City midfield man Fernandinho completed 62 passes while the entire Everton team completed only 64. The Brazilian finished with 14.5% possession himself while the whole Everton team managed 17.9% (source - BBC Sport). City can now win the Premier League if they beat Man United next weekend.

Another team winning 3-1 away was Spurs at Chelsea, their first win there in 28 years, 2 goals for Dele Alli in that game.

Aubameyang scored 2 as Arsenal beat Stoke 3-0, Stoke remain in 19th place and entertain Spurs next week. Arnautovic also scored twice as West Ham beat Southampton.

Salah scored again for Liverpool who won 2-1 at Palace, Man United saw off Swansea to remain 2 points ahead of Liverpool in 2nd place.

Burnley won 2-1 at West Brom which means the Baggies have lost a record 8 successive Premier League games  It's still tight at the bottom with only 6 points separating 14th & 19th, this should help maintain TFF interest until the last weekend.

We have an important non-TFF game midweek as Liverpool host Man City in the first leg of their Champions League tie. Both clubs are likely to be rotating players ahead of the 2 legs over the next 2 weeks - obviously the team going through will also be affected in the next round(s).

Fair-to-middling scores this week ....
Leader up 43 - Gareth Gwilliam (Team 1) on 2,021 points, with a lead of 24
100th up 51 to 1,902
1k up 50
10k up 49
100k up 43

There are around 1,400 teams who have a higher score than the leading team had at this point last season.

Week 36 - a very bad week for Man City, Chelsea blow their chances of a top 4 finish and Danny Welbeck is our top points-scorer!

Some Champions League news to begin with - as it will have an impact on TFF. Liverpool did what they normally do to Man City at Anfield i.e. beat them, but this time it only took them around 30 minutes! A 3-0 lead going into the 2nd leg this week will be hard to turn over. City could have won the league this week (in the Etihad derby) and after 30 minutes they were probably tying the ribbons onto the trophy. United's 3-goal burst in the 2nd half delayed the inevitable and there were tears before bedtime for some in the home crowd (woeful). Paul Pogba scored 2 .... and had dyed his hair blue & white for the occasion

Mo Salah sent the TFF world into a panic by limping off in the midweek game and missed the Goodison derby at the weekend - but then again, so did lots of the reds' first team. This game ended 0-0 .... there were no other clean sheets for the weekend

Chelsea blew their slim chances of making the top 4 when they drew at home to West Ham, a welcome point for the Hammers as the bottom of the table is still too close to call. Palace, Huddersfield & Swansea all drew to inch away from Stoke & Southampton but still only 7 points separate 14th and 19th. Newcastle's win at Leicester should see them safe. An honourable mention for Luka Milivojevic who scored for the 3rd consecutive match and has 6 in his last 10 (at £2.6m). West Brom are 10 points adrift of safety and this week they sacked Alan 'Dancin' fool' Pardew .... my thanks to the person on FISO this week who pointed out that the Baggies have now had as many managers this season (3) as they have Premier League victories.

Arsenal beat the Saints 3-2 with the aforementioned Welbeck scoring 2 and assisting the other. Spurs won 2-1 at Stoke with Eriksen scoring both goals although Kane did his best to claim one of them :)

This was one of those weeks when I had to check that there had indeed been an update as the scores were very low. I think rotation and lack of clean sheets explains most of it .... but not to worry, next week (Edit - the week AFTER) we have 4 re-arranged fixtures to get stuck into .... with our many remaining transfers :)

Leader up 14 - Gareth Gwilliam (team 1) on 2,035 with a lead of 9 points - just 42 points ahead of 10th place, it could be a blanket finish.

Cheers as ever. Nice to be ahead of the line this week.

One tiny thing - the first 4 bonus rearranged games are next week not this week. Just the boring set of 10 at the weekend for me to wreck my best position so far this season.

Week 37 - Man City are champions!
City won 3-1 at Spurs and Man United (having beaten City last weekend) lost to the bottom side West Brom - at Old Trafford  Oddly enough the only other defeat City have suffered in the league this year was at Anfield - Liverpool then went on to lose their next game 1-0 against the bottom of the table (Swansea) .... co-incidence...? (Yes - it was :)).

Liverpool continued their great form, beating Bournemouth 3-0, the front 3 of Firmino, Mane & Salah all scored .... it was Salah's 30th league goal of the season and 40th in all comps - outstanding. Chelsea came from 2-0 down to best Southampton 3-2, Giroud scored 2 after coming on as a sub. Crystal Palace won the 'M23 derby' by the same score with Zaha also scoring 2.

A big win for Newcastle at home to Arsenal (2-1), the Gunners are now the only team in England's top four divisions yet to earn an away league point in 2018  they are, however, in the semi-final of the Europa League which they may have to win if they are to play in Europe next season because - Burnley won their 5th game in a row this week beating Leicester 2-1. Burnley are now just 2 points behind Arsenal who are in 6th.

The bottom of the table is still far from settled, West Brom's win has probably come too late, Southampton & Stoke are both 4 points ahead of the Baggies and 5 points behind Swansea in 17th. Stoke also let a lead slip this week as Andy Carroll (remember him?) scored a 90th-minute equaliser for West Ham - who had 3 'goals' disallowed by Michael Oliver. I've not seen the game but apparently all three decisions were correct and at least David Moyes didn't cry and claim the referee had a bag of rubbish for a heart

Another low-scoring week this week, there were only 3 clean sheets (West Brom, Huddersfield & Liverpool) and only 4 players got into double figures; Giroud & Zaha got 11 points and Perez & Sterling 10.

Leader up 36 - Gareth Gwilliam (team 1) on 2,071 with a lead of just 5 points
100th up 38 - 1,964
1k up 38
10k up 37
100k up 32

After two low-scoring weeks the lines are beginning to curve down towards something like 'normality'. We shall see what this next week brings with 4 re-arranged games and the FA Cup semi-finals.

Week 38 - FA Cup Semi-final weekend

Chelsea and Man United won through to the final as Chelsea beat Southampton 2-0 and United came from behind to beat Spurs 2-1. Just 2 weeks ago I referenced Alan Pardew's Wembley dance when Palace were leading Man United, only to look like an idiot when they lost .... enter Dele Alli doing the floss dance after he gave Spurs the lead, a dance I've hitherto only seen my 14 year-old niece doing  Another year without a trophy for Spurs, which is apparently ok - not so for Arsene Wenger and Arsenal who will be parting ways at the end of this season. It will be interesting to see what happens there next season.

Liverpool drew 2-2 at the Hawthorns - guess who scored again...? Salah needs just one more league goal to break the record for a 38-game season he currently shares with Shearer, Suarez & Ronaldo  That comeback by West Brom (2-0 down at 79 minutes) was described by Klopp as 'useless'. He may be correct as the Baggies are still 8 points from safety with the 4 teams above them having games in-hand on them. Southampton & Stoke are favourites to join them but the Swansea v Saints game on 8th May could yet be decisive and there are still 3 other teams who need to take care they're not dragged back into the fight.

The PFA awards went the way we all expected - Mo Salah won the top prize (thoroughly deserved despite Pep believing KDB should have won it) and Leory Sane the young player. A mention too for Sergio Aguero who finally made the team of the year - after 7 years

Big wins this week for Man City (5-0 v Swansea) and Arsenal (4-1 v West Ham), several re-arranged fixtures and lots of clean sheets helped boost the scores ....

Week 39 - Nine clean sheets and a reminder of how good Dixie Dean was.

Man City won 4-1 at West Ham and reached 100 premier league goals for the season, the fastest team to reach 100 since Everton in 1931-32 (who did it in 3 fewer games), Dixie Dean just scoring the 45 goals that season - I say JUST as he'd scored 60 in the 1927-28 season  Mo Salah didn't score this week for a change as Liverpool were held 0-0 at home by Stoke. Man United beat Arsenal with a late Fellaini header which means they will almost certainly finish 2nd. Liverpool's draw means that Spurs (2-0 win v Watford) & Chelsea (1-0 win at Swansea) can still push Liverpool into 5th - although they would have to lose their final 2 matches. Something for them to keep an eye on as they head towards the Champions League final.

All the excitement though is at the bottom of the table as none of the bottom 3 lost, and most of the teams immediately above them failed to win. West Brom continued their great run under caretaker manager Darren Moore (unbeaten in 4) by winning at Newcastle, Southampton won their derby v Bournemouth and Palace all but secured Premier League survival with a 5-0 thumping of Leicester .... Palace had 4 of the 8 players who managed double-figure TFF points hauls this week, Patrick van Aanholt top-scoring with 15 points. With 2 or 3 games left to play, none of the bottom 6 are safe.

Reasonable scores this week ....

Week 40 - squeaky bum time

It's getting close at the top & bottom of the Premier League and even closer at the top of the TFF manager table.

Stoke City became the first team to be relegated as they lost at home to Palace - who are now definitely safe. Also safe are West Ham, who won at Leicester and Brighton who beat Man United 1-0 on Friday evening. West Brom continued their excellent run with a 1-0 win v Spurs and have given themselves a (very) slim chance of survival.
As suggested 2 weeks ago, the big game this week is (Southampton) 17th v 18th (Swansea), the loser will be in trouble, and if they draw they could both be in trouble, Mark Hughes will be hoping he doesn't have the ignominy of being the manager of 2 relegated sides in the same season . With Cardiff having secured promotion this weekend I'm sure Swansea fans will be praying they can hang on - and the South Wales Police force will be cheering for Southampton
Huddersfield did their chances of survival no harm by drawing 0-0 at the Etihad but they are the only other team still at risk of relegation.

Chelsea beat Liverpool 1-0 .... this means that Spurs & Chelsea can still overtake Liverpool for 3rd & 4th spots if Liverpool slip up in their final game .... home to Brighton. A win for Liverpool should be enough, assuming Chelsea can't overturn a 15-goal goal-difference deficit.

Despite their 5-0 loss at the Emirates, Burnley are now assured the poisoned chalice of European football next season (as Everton only drew).

Lots of the 'top' players this week failed to impress the scorers with Man City, Liverpool, Man United & Spurs all failing to score and only City (of these) keeping a clean sheet. It was left to Arsenal to rack up the points - the top five players in TFF-land this week were all Arsenal players after their 5-0 win, Aubameyang top-scoring with 15.

The scores were low for a full 10-game week ....
Leader up 11 - Gareth Gwilliam (team 1) on 2,189 with a lead of 1 (one) point
100th up 25 - 2,101
1k up 26
10k up 27
100k up 25

If you thought the race for Europe/relegation was close, take a look at this top 10

1st 2,189 Gareth Gwilliam ........ Team 1
2nd 2,188 Gary Frearson ........... Nicole Lauren 15
3rd 2,187 Andrew Luckhurst ...... 4
4th 2,187 Shaun Woodford ........ city4
5th 2,184 Simon Allen .............. Destiny
6th 2,183 Bryan O'Rourke .......... Charlotte
7th 2,173 Greg Meenaghan ........ Season CA 5
8th 2,172 Henry Oakley ............ C9
9th 2,168 Martin Sygrove .......... Sporting Lambchops
10th 2,161 Richard Neill ............. Physio Wonders 4

I've not been keeping track of who has which players at the top but I'm sure every goal will be vital for the next 12 days ....
16 league games left to be played
The F.A. Cup final
only 5 opportunities remaining for transfers by my reckoning
