Netflix and Amazon reviews

Post by jimwinn »

I reckon we could do with a thread for Netflix or Amazon

There are tons of movies and TV shows that crawl out of the gutter but there are a few goodies

Time Lapse 7/10 interesting idea kinda reminded me of shallow grave
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2669336/

Left behind 0/10 utter garbage which is a good reason for this thread to warn others

Netflix is great for our kids - they watch all kinds of tosh but seem to enjoy it and of course the beauty is for box sets they can watch the entire series in a matter of days. The girls (both under 10) love Mako Mermaids/H20 and for some reason the boy (6) loves Power Rangers (I hadn't appreciated how crud that show was...it looks like its from 1960s rather than 1990s). Personally I can rarely find a film I really want to see and find the interface pretty rubbish (we access it via Virgin Media on the TV and not the PC). Did watch all episodes of Breaking Bad though and my wife found the 3rd and 4th series of Once Upon Time, which channel 5 stopped showing after series 2 (there was a reason for this :| ) so it's probably paid its way for a little while.

Yes, I find it much better for series (BB, Modern Family, Arrested Development, Peepshow, Him & Her etc) than films.

We ran out of movies we wanted to watch very quickly and nothing worthwhile seems to have been added since (months). Sticking to BB, etc. as above for now.

Better call Saul was an enjoyable Breaking bad spin off.

Fargo - half way through that and worth a watch IMO

Netflix seem to be cutting down on films:

http://www.wsj.com/articles/netflix-end ... 1440975878

Bit odd as I thought they would be better off marketing themselves as the biggest library of everything (TV and films) rather than focussing on a channel of new stuff with some box sets and the odd film thrown in - but what do I know....

Circle is worth a viewing

50 people wake up in a room and have to vote for one survivor - a bit like Exam

Hellraiser Inferno

Surprisingly good
7/10

Not like most of the other sequels - think they grafted the Hellraiser stuff onto another screenplay

Reminded me of Angel Heart which is always good news

Making a Murderer is interesting and should scare the pants off anyone encountering the justice system in Wisconsin. I don't want to give details but I think it is flawed but well worth watching. I loved the recent British production River and the documentary Virunga about chaos and corruption in the eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, centered around a villainous UK Oil company.

A good horror movie on Netflix :?:

Here comes the devil is a bit different

Scary and unsettling

The director seems to specialise in this type of horror ~ not one for mainstream audiences

Thumbs up: 8/10

Been meaning to watch Starry Eyes for ages and it didn't disappoint

Creepy horror with a grizzly 15 minutes at the end

Also a scene that comes straight out of Irreversible

Siege of Jadotville watched this last night on Netflix. A true story based on the Irish army whilst they were the United Nations peace keepers in the French Congo.

Really enjoyed this; well worth watching.

Just watched a documentary/film called 13th.

A bleak look at racism/oppression/political manoeuvring in America.

Worth a watch if you fancy a change from all the Christmas feel good movies.

Red Army - a documentary about Russian hockey and their eventual proliferation into the NHL. Worth a watch (only on for marginally over an hour). My hockey knowledge is next to zero (Gretzky, Calgary Flames and the Stanley Cup are about the sum total of my knowledge).

Thats also being shown on the bbc this week, a couple episodes a night around midnight.

Watched it first time round, it's not bad although it seems they didn't get round to making a 2nd series.

2nd series coming soon Moist

I suppose it's a budget thing with Netflix originals

You may notice a lack of battle scenes in most of the episodes
