UK Board Games Championships
I've just got back from a great weekend at the UK Games Expo.
I didn't quite win the UK Settlers of Catan championship this time, narrowly failing to qualify for the final from a strong field. I did get the the final of the UK Carcassonne Championship and missed out on going to the World Carcassonne Championships by a measly 6 points. I did not do so well in a Powergird tournament but my performance over the weekend was good enough to retain the title of UK Board Games Champion.

Very impressive.
But out of interest did you play any games that I might have heard of? Monopoly, Cluedo or Risk etc?

Re: UK Board Games Championships
No, you won't have heard of any of the games as they are German style stratergy games mainly played in board game clubs. Games like Monopoly, Risk and to some extent Cluedo have too much luck in them to be played.
I had to play in three rounds and in each round there is a choice of two games to play.
Round 1
Agricola or Powergrid
Round 2
Carcassonne or Saint Petersburg
Round 3
The Settlers of Catan or Puerto Rico
The Carcassonne and The Settlers of Catan tournaments were qualifiers for the world championships for these games in Germany and America respectively.
I did not think I would win overall this year because I did not win any individual tournaments whereas last year I won the Settlers of Catan tournament and played in the world championships in Germany, finishing 26th out of 52. A review of my experience at last years world championship is linked below, though you might want to skip the lengthy game reports which won't make much sense if you don't like the game.

Re: UK Board Games Championships
I'm hoping to make it four Grand Board Games tournament wins in a row at the UK Games Expo this weekend. I've got my work cut out though - they have doubled the size of the tournament!

If Buckeroo was involved you would have zero chance - I have never lost a game.
No luck at all involved in this and don't get me started on Kerplunk - clinical.

The Puerto Rico tournament did not go so well as the others - only finished 6th in a small tournament.

Re: UK Board Games Championships
Once again I am accepting the call from my country to represent them in the Carcassonne World Championships this weekend in Germany. My aim is to do better than last year!
When i was growing up I always wanted to represent my country at something and I am delighted to be doing so for the third time.
