CalcioMercato wrote: NAPOLI SET FOR CAVANI DEAL
Uruguay striker Edinson Cavani is set to leave Palermo for Serie A rivals Napoli, the Sicilian club confirmed. "Agreement between Napoli and Palermo was found," thus Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini. "Now they are negotiating the details with the player's agent. Cavani is in Uruguay and the officials of Napoli will go there to sign contracts.
Zamparini explained that the club did not wish to sell the player, but that 'unpleasant incidents' forced them to act. "I'm sorry to strengthen a direct competitor, but Cavani absolutely didn't want to stay in Palermo," Zamparini added. "Unfortunately there were a couple of unpleasant incidents, and we promised to sell him."

Corriere dello Sport wrote: PASTORE ADMITS HE'S READY TO LEAVE PALERMO
The Argentine states that he's ready to move on and president Zamparini admits that another year in Sicily may have been too long for the much sought after playmaker. Javier Pastore has declared that he is ready to leave Palermo in the summer transfer window.
Maurizio Zamparini has admitted he is resigned to losing the playmaker before the new season begins. The Argentina international was one of the revelations of the Serie A in the first half of the season. And now Pastore has indicated that he wants to part with the Sicilian club: "I think that the moment has come to leave Palermo." Zamparini: "I don't feel offended. It's logical that at the maximum he could have stayed on for another season, but at the same time if he stayed he would be under more pressure and we wouldn't see the same Pastore."

La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote: PALERMO PRESIDENT: IT'S BEST IF MICCOLI LEAVES
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has told club captain Fabrizio Miccoli it's best to leave after becoming entangled in a Mafia investigation. Miccoli is under investigation after purchasing four SIM card's, one of which was given to the son of a Mafia boss. "What has happened to Miccoli is proof that it's best he leaves Palermo," Zamparini said. "He certainly needs a change of scenery and he can go to Dubai where he has some offers."
The 33-year-old will be out of contract this summer as his contract with the Rosanero expires, but judging by Zamparini's latest comments, it looks as though he will no longer feature for the Sicilian side.

La Gazzetta dello Sport wrote: JUVENTUS ARE CLOSE TO SIGNING PALERMO STRIKER DYBALA
Juventus could close the deal for Paulo Dybala very soon. The Argentine is now even closer to the bianconeri, who have a meeting scheduled with the Sicilian club to go over the final details. Palermo keep asking for 40 million euros, but the deal could be closed on the basis of much less. Dybala is ready to leave. No comment by Zamparini...

Good afternoon all and welcome aboard. A brand new season of Fantasy Football Manager is about to start. This year we are going to closely monitor the situation somewhere in Sicily. After being on the beach for almost two years...

December the 1st, 2018
BBC wrote: ZAMPARINI SELLS SERIE B SIDE TO LONDON COMPANY
Palermo have been sold to a ‘London-based company’ for the price of 10 euros, the Italian second divison side’s owner has announced. Maurizio Zamparini said he has sold ‘100% of the club’ at a ‘symbolic price’. Zamparini, 77, bought Palermo in 2002 and made around 45 managerial appointments during his time in charge.
…Maurizio Zamparini has decided that it’s enough. The previous owner and director of Italian football club U.S. Città di Palermo will be coming out of retirement to try again, and try hard. “The objective was to find someone to continue my work with more financial power, capable of investments that I was no longer able to make. The new London-based owners however did not keep their promises and held off most of the arrangements I made two years ago.” One of those promises was to build a new stadium. Zamparini: “I have always loved this club and will always be thinking of the club’s future. The construction of a new stadium and training ground will be put into action immediately. Furthermore I have released some funds, close to a 100 million pounds, to be able to bring in new players.

Zamparini admits that Palermo have had some great players in the past and assures their fans not to be worried about what’s coming. “Well known former players like Edinson Cavani, Javier Pastore and Franco Vázquez have performed brilliantly here. But looking at how they have performed after their times in our beautiful pink, there is absolutely no guarantee they can replicate their previous performances here again. I know some of them are looking for a club, but these players are now considered to be past their best. With a £100.0 million budget I can and will be trying to fit in close to fifteen players. Fans won’t be disappointed.” Zamparini was even quoted saying ”there is no place for Paulo (Dybala) either”, although several sources say that the controversial president will definitely be interested in Dybala if and when he comes in at the right price, maybe next season?

The latest news is that Zamparini has been seen with what looked like some paper notes with over 50 names. It could be his watchlist of players, it could also just be some comments on the construction of the new stadium.. It looks like the re-elected president will be trying hard and this time not only to gain profit in team value, but also to perform well and have a go at the top of the rankings…

Something tells me that this is going to be about more than which of two premiums to give the armband to each week!

BUYING POLICY CITTÀ DI PALERMO
  1. The spend on goalkeepers is £9.0M maximum, preferably £8.5M.
  2. All defenders need to carry some kind of attacking threat, unless the defender is a £4.0M fodder.
  3. There should at least be one bench fodder priced at £4.5M in the front eight, because there should be as much money on the pitch as possible.
  4. Each >£9.4M player needs to and/or should be captained every once in a while.
  5. Every player should be nailed on to start GW1 and have a very decent chance to at least start the first couple of GWs even when not performing.
SELEZIONE DELLA SQUADRA

As per rule a: The spend on goalkeepers is £9.0M maximum, preferably £8.5M.
Which causes every goalkeeper priced at £5.5M or over to be ruled out. No Pope, no Lloris, etc. The cheaper bunch has quickly been reduced to five names: Pickford, McCarthy, Ryan, Meslier and Martínez. Judging their potential on post lockdown form brings McCarthy top of the list.
  1. £4.5M McCarthy kept three clean sheets in nine and conceded eight goals. Southampton seemed to be on the up at the end of last season and in preseason and have pretty favorable fixtures to begin with.
  2. £5.0M Pickford kept three clean sheets, conceded eight goals in easier games and is of course £0.5M more expensive.
  3. £4.5M Ryan also kept three clean sheets, but conceded 14 goals and Brighton do not look like having a watertight defence.
  4. £4.5M Meslier plays for a promoted team, albeit producing excellent defensive numbers in the Championship, and Leeds have pretty hard fixtures at the start of the season.
  5. £4.5M Martínez did a brilliant job at Arsenal, but rumours over a possible move to another PL club doesn't make him nailed on to play for any club.
£4.0M Steer is going to be chosen as the backup, which makes the goalkeeper combination a preferable £8.5M. Selected by only 5.4% shouldn't see him fall in price early in the season.

As per rule b: All defenders need to carry some kind of attacking threat, unless the defender is a £4.0M fodder.
The Sicilian board has decided to heavily invest in defence. Palermo has been dealing with defensive issues for years now and therefore the general consensus is that in defence the side can improve the most. In addition, thoughts go that defenders are the best value players of the game.
  • £7.5M Alexander-Arnold doesn't even require an explanation.
  • £7.0M Robertson doesn't either, but here goes. @BigManBakar: Robertson has outdone Alexander-Arnold in terms of underlying stats post restart. [...] On set pieces now too, Robertson has become a completely different beast which was helped by the fact that he took 24 of Liverpool's 72 corners post restart. If Alexander-Arnold is non-negotiable, Robertson for £0.5M less certainly is too.
  • £5.0M James was also never in doubt. @BigManBakar: James is the defender this season who has the biggest potential out of all defenders to make a mockery out of his price tag. Priced at just £5.0M, he was second only to Robertson for big chances created post restart. His numbers whenever he plays are very encouraging and he's an explosive defender to own. In addition James started eight of Chelsea's last nine games of the season (in which Azpilicueta featured a lot as well). Chelsea have a couple of very tasty fixtures at the start of the season.
  • £4.5M Ayling plays for a Leeds United side who have kept 22 clean sheets in the Championship and conceded just 35 goals. That's six goals less than Sheffield United in the year before and the best defensive record in the Championship in ten years. Furthermore, a Leeds defender should be a perfect fit for the GWs where it's better to bench James. For this slot, Ayling, who likes to push up high as a full back, won the coin toss against £4.5M Dallas.
  • £4.0M Ferguson is considered to be the most nailed on bench fodder when fit. The board doesn't think they need the player in this slot to play in the first couple of GWs.
Other considerations:
£6.0M Laporte starts with a blank and a couple of tricky fixtures after.
£6.0M Digne is too expensive. The board doesn't want to pay six million for an Everton defender of any kind.
£5.5M Tierney is expected to play in a back three and therefore doesn't carry enough threat for that price.
£5.0M Bellerín is rumoured to be on the move and didn't fulfill 60 minutes in Arsenal's first competitive fixture (Arsenal-Liverpool, red.).
£5.0M Saïss is too dependable on set-piece threat and starts with two tricky fixtures.
£4.5M Vinagre is rumoured to be on the move and has never been nailed on to play in a Nuno side.
£4.5M Justin plays for a Leicester side who were utter dross post lockdown and are without Evans in the first two fixtures.
£4.5M C.Taylor starts with a blank, doesn't carry enough attacking threat and can't replace James in GW2 & GW6.
£4.5M Lewis is a new player at Newcastle United, so should be a wait and see.
£4.5M Walker-Peters plays for the same team as McCarthy and their fixtures are not that appealing to double up.

As per rule c: There should at least be one bench fodder priced at £4.5M in the front eight, because there should be as much money on the pitch as possible.
As per rule d: Each >£9.4M player needs to and/or should be captained every once in a while.
The cheapest pick is of course the least important one.
  • £4.5M Bissouma should be pretty nailed on to start for Brighton after a steady post lockdown form. A secure place in the first eleven and a very occasional goal or assist is what is expected from the fodder.
Other considerations:
£4.5M Burke is a new player at Sheffield United and will probably be rotated with three, maybe even four other strikers.
£4.5M Brewster is rumoured to be on the move, but would still block a Liverpool slot. Would be a very interesting bench fodder if he gets a move to another PL club though.
  • £12.0M Salah his numbers are head and shoulders above anyone else's. @BigManBakar: Salah had the best minutes per expected goal involvement ratio of all midfielders last season and averaged ~9.33 points at home against the promoted sides. Salah is the preferred captain in GW1.
Other consideration:
£12.0M Aubameyang is only a slight consideration. Salah is the preferred captain in GW1, a Manchester United player is the preferred captain in GW2 and Arsenal's fixtures take a pretty nasty turn after GW2. So the £12.0M spend on Aubameyang can not be tolerated. Zamparini admits he has never been fond of Aubameyang as a Fantasy asset: "Yes, he is an exceptional finisher. He plays too wide though and plays for a side that I feel cannot be trusted with the captaincy just yet." Aubameyang furthermore has an expected minutes per goal involvement of 200 minutes in away games under Arteta.
  • £8.5M Havertz has very favorable fixtures to begin with at Chelsea. @BigManBakar: Havertz, over his last three seasons, his non-penalty xG+xA per 90 numbers have been getting better every year. He averages a goal involvement almost every game and has consistently outperformed his xG over the past three seasons. Because of several injuries at Chelsea, he is also expected to start for them. Long term this slot should be occupied by £8.5M Pulisic.
  • £8.0M Alli is more of a punt for the first couple of weeks. Spurs start with very appealing fixtures and Alli should be very driven with a brand new chance to shine under Mourinho.
  • £9.5M Werner is considered to be an absolute steal given his pedigree and the amount of chances Chelsea create. @BigManBakar: A stat that might surprise is that Chelsea had the second highest xG and big chances to Man City post restart. [...] An xG per game of 0.75 in the Bundesliga (Werner, red.) is very impressive and the fact that his numbers are backed up by a high volume of shots/big chances means that he could be a recipe for success. Werner is a captaincy option as well.
  • £7.0M Calvert-Lewin seems underpriced if he can replicate his pre lockdown form from last season. Everton have done well in the transfer market which should help better his end product. Everton start with tasty fixtures as well.
  • £6.0M Adams ended last season pretty well and has had a good preseason in which he seems to have secured his place in the starting eleven. @BigManBakar: Only City, Chelsea and Man United registered more big chances away from home than Southampton post restart. During this period, Palace were ranked second worst for big chances conceded per game. [...] In the games that both Ings and Adams started together post lockdown, Adams accumulated 26 points at 6.50 points per game.
Other considerations:
£10.0M Vardy can only be bought if Salah leaves the team. That is because of squad structure and other plans. Salah gets the preference.
£6.5M Wilson is a new player at Newcastle United, whose fixtures take a nasty turn after GW2.
£6.5M Antonio hasn't had the best preseason whilst £6.5M Haller also seems to have fully recovered from injury. Haller is a big threat to his centre forward spot.

The board then has eight million left for the last player. Zamparini however likes to keep cash in the bank because of earlier financial issues. See also:

May the 13th, 2019
FIGC wrote:PALERMO RELEGATED DUE TO FINANCIAL ISSUES
Palermo have been relegated to Serie C due to financial irregularities, the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) has confirmed. [...] It said the Sicilian club were sanctioned "for a series of management irregularities by some former directors".
Which makes...
  • £5.0M Souček the final pick of the front eight. Souček seems to be a fixture-proof player who is certain to start and carries a big threat, especially from set-pieces, for a small price. Post restart he produced a shot in the box every 58 minutes.
Other consideration:
If it wasn't for the financial irregularities, £8.0M Willian would have been the final pick. The board expressed their interest in preseason and came close to picking him up as a free agent, but pulled out of the deal just minutes before kickoff. However, if interest in the Brazilian remains, a bigger transfer fee will need to be paid. Withholding the £3.0M could prove to be costly.

The board would like to give his permission to fully invest the amount of 100 million when the season gets underway. Il valore è importante.

WEEKEND DI APERTURA GW1

Zamparini's opening set of transfers, for a total cost of 97 million pounds, have led to a very solid 81 points. The board has already given his permission to also invest the remaining 3.0 million to be able to compete in the highest of rankings.

Overall points: 81
Current ranking: 260.938
Estimated equity value/sell value: £100.1M/£100.0M
Liquid resources: £1.5M (explained below)

A couple of years ago Palermo had a troubled relationship with one of their players, Hernández (Abel, red.), which had her effects on the atmosphere in the dressing room.

September the 25th, 2012
CalcioMercato wrote: ZAMPARINI UNHAPPY WITH PALERMO STRIKER’S PARTY LIFESTYLE
Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini has hit out at striker Abel Hernández for what he perceives as an unhelpful love of the Sicilian nightlife. “He must take on what I am saying and live the life of an athlete. He should stop going clubbing and drinking beer otherwise it is hard to improve.”
Zamparini has learned from this experience and wants to avert situations like these in the future. Therefore it has been decided to part ways with £8.0M Alli.

September the 16th, 2020
The Daily Mail wrote: ALLI'S PARTY BOY LIFESTYLE
[...] questioned Dele Alli's 'party boy' lifestyle as he advised the midfielder to figure out what he wants to achieve in his career. [...] Zamparini reveals he 'doesn't train well' and called him into his office.
Also, if the decision to sell Alli wasn't taken, his release clause could have dropped below 8 million, which of course would have led to a loss of equity value. Soon after though Zamparini brought in a new player who should be ready for his first game this weekend, £9.5M Rashford, which is why the club's liquid resources have decreased to 1.5 million pounds. Rashford is also likely to be the new club captain.

£8.0M Alli  £9.5M Rashford

WATCHLIST

After the first GW of the season, Zamparini has sent his scouting staff to several regions of Europe.
AssignmentsArsenalChelseaEvertonMan UtdMan CityNewcastleVillaWolves
Goalkeeper--Pickford*---Martínez-
DefenderBellerín---LaporteLewis-Saïss
MidfielderWillian*PulisicRodríguez-De Bruyne, Sterling, Mahrez--Podence
Forward--Richarlison*MartialAgüero--Jiménez
*Zamparini wishes he had gone for Pickford before GW1.
*Willian is expected to be exceptional value, even at £8.1M. He might even take over penalty duty.
*After five shots in the box and two big chances in a single game, Richarlison might be a better Fantasy asset than DCL (Calvert-Lewin, red.).

OPEN FOR DISCUSSION WITH FANS

The sporting director feels he made the decision to get Rashford too quickly. He should have waited for the cup games to be finished, because he now thinks there's a solid chance £6.0M Adams is going to be benched this GW. In hindsight, his preference would have been to get rid of Alli and Adams to be able to bring in £7.5M Rodríguez and £9.0M Martial. It would have come at a cost of four points, though Zamparini thinks the captaincy on Martial would have repaid those costs.

There are several more doubts in the squad and so...

...The Palermo board would like to let their fans know they are negotiating with the FIGC over a deal to prematurely end some of their current player contracts without being punished by points reduction. Zamparini feels making use of a jump-start might be beneficial in the long run. The verdict of the negotiation should be out by the end of the week.

While the jury is out to decide whether the use of a wildcard is a realistic and legal possibility, the following players are on the lookout for another club:
PositionPlayerRelease clause
GoalkeeperMcCarthy£4.5 million
DefenderAlexander-Arnold£7.5 million
MidfielderHavertz£8.5 million
MidfielderAlli£8.0 million
MidfielderSouček£5.0 million
ForwardAdams£6.0 million

Exciting times for Maurizio Zamparini and the Rosanero!

A structured plan submitted before the 12 September deadline and without the interference of nefarious insurance brokers claiming to work on behalf of Bulgarians. Proof a leopard can change their spots?

I look forward to reading how the season unfolds!

Oh dear a knee-jerking sporting director is not a great thing. His second thought was probably the right one. I suspect Adams will play though.
Really not sure you need to wildcard yet, too much uncertainty around still. You've had a decent start so I would hold fire.

Agreed. Until all teams have played at least once and, ideally, until the transfer window closes I’d say that wild carding from that team is also a knee-jerk reaction.

Loving the format though

Not sure I’ve phrased all of that appropriately. Maybe, as a fellow Goat, I should claim to be mentoring the manager?

The jury is out way longer than expected which makes the negotiation with the FIGC a very lengthy discussion. Palermo were offered the chance to sign £7.5M Rodríguez in a swap deal with £8.5M Havertz, though the board felt a four points reduction wouldn’t have made it a profitable deal. So as it stands, negotiations remain ongoing.

Problems at the press office ?
Sometimes a rumour is nothing more than a rumour. Up until this moment we haven't had any confirmation by any of Palermo's official spokespersons.

It looks like Zamparini wants to keep their fans out of the loop. We'll try everything to get a press release out before Thursday.

SETTIMANA DUE GW2

What do Rodríguez, Richarlison, Bamford, Mitrović, Zaha, Ings, Son, Kane, Mané and De Bruyne have in common? Firstly, they're all selected by more than 10%. Secondly, they all reached double-figure hauls over the weekend. Thirdly, not a single one of them plays in the beautiful colors of the Rosanero. It was a weekend to forget for Zamparini's men, with only Calvert-Lewin contributing to a measly 44 points.

Overall points: 125
Current ranking: 1.396.811
Estimated equity value/sell value: £100.9M/£100.1M (explained below)
Liquid resources: Unknown

It feels quite harsh that the first two 50/50 decisions of the season went wrong. In GW1 Palermo lost out on 12 points by keeping the remaining three million in the bank instead of investing those pounds in Willian. In GW2 Palermo had the opportunity to sign £7.5M Rodríguez in a swap deal with £8.5M Havertz, albeit for a points reduction, but decided against. Another 7 points lost. Zamparini however is determined to not give up so easily and can gladly announce the deal with the FIGC has gone through, as was reported by Radio One Palermo.

Radio One Palermo wrote: PALERMO DEAL ACCEPTED BY FIGC
Rumour has it that Zamparini's request to prematurely end some of their current player contracts has finally been accepted by the FIGC. Initially the FIGC were very skeptical because of the earliness of the deal.
The following players have already been released by the club:

MARKET

Now that Zamparini has deployed his wildcard, he will focus on value first before putting together a new team of fifteen players. Therefore he has delved into the market of put and call options.
  • A put option is a contract giving the owner the right, but not the obligation, to sell a player at a pre-determined price within a specified time frame.
  • A call option is a contract giving the owner the right, but not the obligation, to buy a player at a pre-determined price within a specified time frame.
Three put options have already been used. Alexander-Arnold has been sold for £7.5M, Havertz has been sold for £8.5M and Werner has been sold for £9.5M. Meanwhile, their underlying value is dropping. Zamparini used these put options anticipating that these players can later be bought back for less.

In addition to these put options, a couple of call options have been used as well. Son has been bought for £8.9M, Zaha has been bought for £7.0M and Bamford has been bought for £5.6M. The underlying value of these players is increasing and by buying them at the lowest possible price, Palermo will have gained some value when they sell these players at a higher price later this week.

Last week Zamparini told some of his scouts to have a closer look at certain players. Some scouts have returned with a full report.

OPEN FOR DISCUSSION WITH FANS

The wildcard has been deployed. Lots of players look likely to be a good addition to the team. At the moment Palermo seem to have exact funds for this side:

PositionPlayerBuying priceMarket value
GoalkeeperMartínez£4.5 million£4.5 million
GoalkeeperForster£4.0 million£4.0 million
DefenderRobertson£7.0 million£7.0 million
DefenderSaïss£5.0 million£5.1 million

DefenderLamptey£4.5 million£4.5 million

MidfielderRodríguez£7.5 million£7.5 million
MidfielderPodence£5.5 million£5.5 million
MidfielderAlzate£4.5 million£4.5 million
ForwardJesus£9.5 million£9.5 million
ForwardJiménez£8.5 million£8.5 million
ForwardCalvert-Lewin£7.0 million£7.2 million

Although the board does have a few questions.
  • Is it too ballsy to go without Alexander-Arnold?
  • Will James hold his place in the starting eleven?
  • Is Lamptey the best cover for James's tricky fixtures?
  • Would a De Bruyne/Sterling double up be too much as it will go at the cost of Salah?
  • Are Barnes's underlying stats sustainable?
  • Will Foden get enough minutes to be a serious option at only £6.5?
  • Would it be odd to suddenly go without a United asset?
  • Should Werner be kept for those very appealing fixtures?
  • If Brewster goes, does that mean a 3-5-2 is the way to go?

:D :D Haha what a fantastic post! I thought reading Dod his post was great fun but this topped it for me! Well done.

I see you might join me in the big Man City triple. ;)

As for Brewster, do we really expect him to play all the time? I don't think so.

Rumours some fans are not happy with the level of patience shown with Harvertz as based on his performance so far in a behind closed doors friendly he has looked like the player that they signed in the first place with a goal and what should have been 2 assists.

Fans feel the 0.1 million lost on him will be returned after him and his German partner in crime Werner put the at least 4 goals past WBA between them this weekend.

Should the manager show the same level of patience the board will have in him this season 🤔

Thanks, mate. :)

Yes, if I do go for the triple up, it’ll be Foden included. Investing £32.5M in one team seems a bit too much.

A part of me is hoping he gets a move, so that lots will be moving to a 3-5-2 while I will hopefully be holding on to three forwards. I can’t see him becoming a viable starting option if at Sheffield United.

The board still thinks there should be at least one Chelsea player in the team who can be captained. Avoiding price drops on both Havertz and Werner (still needs to happen) has been valuable, although there’s a decent chance one of them returns to the team at a lower price before the end of the week.

La Gazzetta dello Joccki

September the 26th, 2020

Due to an embarrassingly low turnout at the elections Zamparini has taken matters into his own hands again. Only two particular players made their way into the team thanks to fan votes. Città di Palermo is now looking like...

£4.5M Martínez, £4.0M Forster
£7.0M Robertson, £5.1M James, £4.6M Lamptey, £4.5M Konsa, £4.1M Mitchell
£12.1M Salah, £11.6M De Bruyne, £8.4M Havertz, £7.6M Rodríguez, £6.5M Foden
£8.5M Jiménez, £7.3M Calvert-Lewin, £4.5M Brewster

Firstly, as you can see, using the put option on Havertz has been profitable; he was sold for 8.5 million pounds and bought back for less. Longtime fan Stevieste will be very glad to see Havertz back in the side. Another fan, AR, will also be having a joyous reaction when he sees Konsa lined up in the squad. Reason for that was mainly his vote, but also because of Konsa's threat numbers post restart and his very decent rotation with Lamptey. This means a lack of £7.5M Alexander-Arnold, though compromises had to be made. £11.5M Sterling couldn't be picked either or else it would have been a 'NoMo-team'.
Rodríguez was the final pick of the bunch. There were 8.1 million pounds left so it was either him or £8.0M Richarlison. Ideally it would have been £9.5M Werner but that stretch was way too much. Rumours over an injury for £5.6M Podence made Zamparini leave him out as well. And last but not least: the board likes to see Spurs and United perform over a longer period against tricky opponents before considering their players over their current players.

My finger was hovering over the transfer button for that same front 8

Surprised the club kept hold of Brewster after undermining his confidence with so much talk of him not being in the manager’s plans

The fodder in the front eight is in my view one of the least important spots of the squad. Would be nice if he does get a move though.

Already one goal down on my wildcard: Rashford. But hey ho, a long way to go!

The Aldershot branch of the supporters club is delighted with the acquisition of Konsa; they are also impressed with the overall quality of the squad which will surely threaten the upper echelons of the league.

I was thinking about next season; this team has loads of potential but we won't see them at their best until next season
Us fans just need to be patient
Seriously though it is still early days - the team is very dependent on City and Wolves and both had an off day (although if I am honest, I did wonder if 3 Wolves players was overkill too many eggs in one basket - I've been caught in that trap before).

SETTIMANA TRE GW3

BREAK-EVEN POINT

Before yesterday's games Zamparini stepped into the accounting room and decided to have a little go at maths. The wildcard team was far behind on the pre-wildcard team and so the club owner wanted to calculate how many points the remaining players had to score to make it even? The break-even point: how many points (X) do the remaining players on the wildcard team (Z) have to score more than those on the pre-wildcard team (Y)?

PRE-WILDCARDSCOREWILDCARDSCORE
McCarthy6MartínezZ1
Alexander-ArnoldY1RobertsonY2
RobertsonY2James1
James1KonsaZ2
Ayling7SalahY3
Salah2Y3De Bruyne4
Rashford7Havertz5
Havertz5Rodríguez2
Werner2Foden2
Calvert-Lewin6Calvert-Lewin6
Adams5Jiménez0
TOTAL39+Y+Y3TOTAL20+Y2+Y3+Z
* Y = Y1 + Y2 + Y3
* Z = Z1 + Z2

X = 39 + Y + Y3 - 20 + Y2 + Y3 + Z
X = 19 + Y1 + Y3 - Z

The only possibility for the wildcard team to make up some points to the pre-wildcard team was by scoring points with Z. So if Z = X, the pre-wildcard team and the wildcard team will have ended up on the same total points.

X = 19 + Y1 + Y3 = Z
Z = Martínez and Konsa
X = 19 + Alexander-Arnold + Salah

Martínez and Konsa needed to bring in 19 points plus whatever Alexander-Arnold and Salah would have gotten to make it even.

So, the wildcard had the look of being a total disaster in the week it was used. In the end it resulted in only a minor loss as the Rosanero finished on a respectable 47 points. A decent contribution from the Villans was needed, and they delivered. Z actually got exactly the same points as Y1 + Y3, which kept the difference between the two teams on 19 points.

Overall points: 172
Current ranking: 1.195.536
Estimated equity value/sell value: £101.3M/£100.4M
Liquid resources: £0.6M

It's only a single Wolves player though. If they were (read: are) going to play more attacking football as Nuno suggested, they will be less reliable at the back. It was visible against both Sheffield United and Man City. That coupled with the fact that Lamptey shouldn't be benched every GW is why Zamparini opted for Konsa rather than Saïss.

OPEN FOR DISCUSSION WITH FANS

After deploying the wildcard in the past gameweek, Zamparini ideally wants to stick to his guns this week. That means he'd be playing Lamptey away to Everton or Konsa at home against Liverpool.

PositionPlayerBuying priceMarket value
GoalkeeperMartínez£4.5 million£4.5 million
GoalkeeperForster£4.0 million£4.0 million
DefenderRobertson£7.0 million£7.0 million

MidfielderFoden£6.5 million£6.6 million
ForwardJiménez£8.5 million£8.6 million
ForwardCalvert-Lewin£7.0 million£7.4 million
ForwardBrewster£4.5 million£4.5 million

The two main questions remain:
  • What to do about £7.5M Alexander-Arnold? He definitely looked like his old self again against Arsenal and can pop up with a haul in any game.
  • Will players who take penalties become the main Fantasy assets this season? Only three of them play for Palermo. Too few?
Watchlist notes:
  • Man United still look poor. £9.5M Rashford the only one on the watchlist.
  • Spurs are improving from an attacking point of view. With £9.0M Son out, £10.5M Kane needs to be taken into consideration. No player has a better expected goal involvement from open play over the first three weeks than him. Expect Spurs to get a couple of penalties and Kane could be smashing it as a Fantasy asset.
  • £6.0M Trossard and £6.5M Maupay seem to have secured their places in the starting eleven and Brighton look capable of scoring against anyone. They could both act as an alternative for £6.6M Foden.
