Re: Paw's for thought
Quite special lineup but that's what you can expect from ManCity.
Any early plans for the last two rounds? You have some cash in the bank as I see.
Hope we will see some attackers coming in during the game tonight (Foden and for me Mahrez)

Obviously I have ignored you all and I’m now off for a Mtb ride to hide from the football whilst it all goes tits up with Foden being benched
Here’s to a good game week - and a good new team fred!

I am still happy with the move
Maybe this will wean me off taking hits week after week?

BGW36 Review 52 points (56-4); GW Rank 1.2m; OR 122k; Green Arrow
Well what can I say? Is it:
1. With someone like Zaha you have to show patience? The hit for non-playing Foden proving the point
2. With someone like Siggy you shouldn’t show patience? The single point against bottom of the League, Blades, proving the point. 5 points from three good games was just not good enough.
Obviously the Foden move was a mistake with some foresight and a lot of hindsight. Doing nothing would have given me an OR of about 104k and back on track for a 5-figure final ranking. I’m not too downhearted though. I gambled on Pep when I should know better.
The big positive this week was bringing in Salah and giving him the armband (10x2). Kane would have been fine as well, his 8 points very welcome. Leeds double up in defence and Trent’s continuing good run are the others that led to the green arrow.
Some of the others are no longer in good form - Lingard first amongst them, three Everton not too far behind. It’s too late in the season for major overhauls. I’ll mull over transfers tomorrow - but Siggy to Saint-Maximin is currently up there as an option, leaving lots of cash free for a final switch to whoever takes my fancy (Aguero?).

GW37 Preview
Very straight forward this game week. All of the options I considered would have made my benching dilemma even more difficult, whilst limiting options for next week. That was the conclusion. Whilst I say it was straight forward it has taken hours of thinking time to end up doing nothing!
That’s not to say that I am happy with the whole team, there are about half a dozen in the meh, maybe 2 points, maybe none, possibly a haul category (Lingard, Dallas, Philips, Greenwood, Foden, Nacho, Siggy).
Two things that I almost did
1. Antonio was closest to coming in. It would have meant Dallas dropping to the bench so I’ll be comparing their scores.
2. Greenwood and Kane were, at different times, close to having the armband. The very late rumour about Greenwood being benched came after it was practical for me to do anything about it. He’s come on late and scored on a number of occasions. Fingers crossed that is the outcome if the rumour is true. Salah and Kane was a coin toss. I have gone for the Peacock-Farrell factor and given Mo the responsibility but Kane was close.
This is how they line up Good luck all,
SP
EDITS:
- The Greenwood rumour wasn’t true.
- What I didn’t see coming was Meslier being benched. Hope Guaita plays this week. Also hope the reserve Leeds keeper is up to the task, having opted for Dallas. FWIW I would have benched Dallas had I known.

That's great SP! I think this last minute actions / transfers often can backfire and indeed, not doing anything and save the transfer can be quite hard. So great to see you stayed put and it hopefully works out for you!

This is much more how I usually play. I try to be very frugal with hits. I’ll take half a dozen or so with perhaps one -8, but that is usually it. This season my Stones/Dias transfers in for that game (when Stones scored twice) made me think that being less sparing was a good plan. Doing nothing really was an act of will this week. Good preparation for next year though. Now I am getting close enough to the end of the season to be able to reflect, the points for the hits are approximately how far behind my ‘par’ score I am.

GW37 Review Roughly where I started, it’ll be a marginal red or green arrow
But it would have been a good week to play my Bench Boost
Even though I went out biking what has been great is all the games on at the same time. It really does make a difference.
Apart from that, roll on GW38. All three captaincy options flunked; the decision to not play Philips has come back to bite me; and my banker of a keeper was dropped.

Re: Paw's for thought
GW38 Preview
Two free transfers Meslier, Shaw, Foden and Greenwood are most likely to miss out. Everton trio have worst fixtures but will play.
GK: Meslier is frustrating for two reasons. I don’t want to spend a transfer or take a hit for a keeper. He also blocks a Leeds spot. Guaita against Liverpool is far from ideal but if he picks up a save point or two he might match the net points total of someone like Ederson for a hit.
Midfield: It comes down to what I do about Leeds. I have Dallas and Meslier, as above. Ideally I’d take two Leeds players out of Bamford, Harrison and Raphinha. However that’d involve someone else in for Meslier so I have to stick to one.
I have read reports that WBA are weaker down Harrison’s flank but my heart says Raphinha - unless there’s concrete news on the City team before the deadline, of course!
Forward. Antonio or Bamford. I think that it has to be Antonio. Bamford starts to involve hits, so effectively Antonio starts four points ahead.
I think this is really simple.
Foden Raphinha
DCL Antonio
Why do I want to overcomplicate it?

@Joccki - I have been looking on whilst you narrow down options. The general approach is coming together and I agree with the principle of looking for some good differentials. IN terms of individual players I’ll take a look in more detail when I get a bit of time. That may be in the morning.
@fred
- If I only had two Pool players, yes, Mane would be coming in. I am more vexed about benching Philips in GW37 (so you know that he’s going to concede this weekend, don’t you!)
- as for Bamford/Antonio/Wood, it’s a good call to include the latter in my shortlist.
- I have also not discounted retention of DCL and going for a second midfield player
No moves until tomorrow and early team news will be a factor

am without on second midfidler but who right now besides Leeds player don't see anyone who would outscore the striker listed above
sorry about Phillips benching, am currently wondering if it makes sense swapping philips for a 3.8 Def and bruno to mane with my 2FT
another option is bruno son to KDB Torres PEA Pepe, happy with my rank so just studying to play it safe and just do Bruno to jesse and call it a day

Hi Smurphy's Paw,
What Jocki says - really straightforward and you seem to be one of the few ones who can sit back and relax till tomorrow's deadline
For the probably rather unlikely event that we would get early teamnews from City and Foden was playing - you would take out Siggy instead for Raphina and bench Greenwod I assume?

If I thought that Foden was playing tomorrow he’d be in my team without hesitation. I have not discounted Siggy to Raphinha to keep that option open. It does leave my bench threadbare though which is why I currently have Foden leaving.
As for who to bench in that situation, it’d be a nice position to be in!

GW38 Team
Locked and loaded, I have made the moves I planned yesterday.
DCL Antonio
Foden Raphinha
If Foden plays I’ll be disappointed and surprised in equal measure. I need the back up of Siggy as a likely starter with Greenwood and Shaw both risks.
Meslier is nominally in goal, it’ll inevitably be Guaita though. Should I -4 for Ederson? (No!)
Good luck all

GW38 Review 48 points; GW 4.6M; OR 142,206 Big Red Arrow
OK, deep breath for one last time before the summer off.
There are no two ways about it, with plenty of you on here scoring in the 70s and 80s this was a sub-par score; and led to my worst overall ranking for a while. With a raw score of 2371 I actually did as well as I have for the last few years - it is only 21 points fewer than the year I finished 696th.
But the issue was second half stagnation as can clearly be seen from the two tables comparing the first and second halves of the season.
Between GW6 & GW20 I progressed well, from 3.4M to 146K. Thereafter I only maintained my ranking I started to chase it, taking hits (on hits, overall I was actually in profit); but really the lack of progress was a surprise and something that I couldn’t turn around. Nor can I really explain it at the moment any more coherently than the points made over the last two or three pages of this thread. Maybe with a bit of time and distance I’ll realise what I failed to do.
Anyway, it is what it is. Thanks for the good chat and advice on here, it’s always appreciated.
I’ll not be playing a Euro game, I really need a break from fantasy sports after the marathon that has been last season and this. The seasons rolling in to one and then a game every day has been exhausting! Fingers crossed we can return to (I’ll not say ‘normal’ but no new wave); and most helpfully whole rafts of games taking place at the same time. Sunday showed us how great it is to be flicking the channels; needing to read TRK to see what is going on in other games.
So best wishes for now and I’ll see you all back here for pre-season planning in a couple of months!
SP

Fingers crossed we can return to (I’ll not say ‘normal’ but no new wave); and most helpfully whole rafts of games taking place at the same time. Sunday showed us how great it is to be flicking the channels; needing to read TRK to see what is going on in other games.
So best wishes for now and I’ll see you all back here for pre-season planning in a couple of months!

Re: Paw's for thought
I know what it feels like. Hovering around and maintaining the same rank week after week after week. It has been a tough year. I think a good start, say five, six weeks, has been important to a lot of good finishes this season. It felt like the template never got broken in the first 25 weeks!

Initial fixture list notes to self:
Man Utd triple to GW7 then run away fast. Head over to City?
Liverpool throughout?
And Villa initially
And Everton if they have a manager. What price DCL anyway?

Lpool's defence shouldn't be tired and stale, if fit
