I think this hits the nail on the head. The promoters of these games must now they are actively encouraging a 'bending of the rules' by offering such enticing ML prizes. Do away with these and that does away with 90% of the moral questions that are asked.

Evening all. A reminder, as to the motive of why these games are run in the first place - it is (largely) to maximise number of page hits that a website gets, and hence to increase potential revenue from advertisers. The mail, in this example, couldn't give a flying jump at a rolling doughnut if someone is cheating, so long as that one person is providing a few thousand page hits rather than just five or ten per week. Lots of people like that could potentially mean more business for the 'paper. The company running the actual game (gfm in this case) may well prefer to maintain the integrity of a game, but their paymasters might have an agenda for which that is frankly irrelevant. And i've had more than one chat with games providers over the years that suggests that to be the case. Apologies for those that have seen me run through this argument before, on a separate dm thread, but it's still the case here.

Yes, an ideal prize for a mini-league should (in my opinion for what it's worth) be for a corporate box for a cup final or a day at the races for example, with decent food and drink, maybe a hotel stay too. Something of genuine value that a group of friends can enjoy, but not cash; as cash could theoretically be "enjoyed" by a group of scammers, or even just one scammer with lots of email addresses. Just a thought.

A Mini-league prize should just be a medal for each of the winning mini league members.

Not sure if anyone's made this point yet but the league average rules aren't helping.

A couple of years ago you could have a mini-league consisting of your own five teams so people wanting to target that prize could do without needing any other people. They then changed it to needing at least five different people BUT they keep it as an average of the entire league. So casual friends/family/work leagues are effectively excluded anyway while individuals have to find another four high flying people, or 'people', to team up with.

They've basically got a side contest that excludes all the casual genuine players and encourages the serious players to cheat.

Totally agree that it would be much better if SL prize was a corporate event rather than cash for the winners !
Unfortunately the emergence of Fiso (in this respect) ruined the general idea behind competitions offering SL league prizes - ie works league, friends etc
