murf wrote: 20 Aug 2017, 09:49Good luck with the 10k. 50 minutes is tough. I've never done any easy course so that is my excuse for a PB of 51:30. There is a simple calculator on a website (runners world?) that estimates your time for 10k or a marathon if you put in your 5k time. 50 minutes sounds about right for you then a sub 4hr marathon!
Today's run went really well bringing me I'm at 49:18. Absolutely delighted with that.

On to completing my marathon training now. I was a little injured first time out last October so came in a little over five hours but sub4 would be my best target but very tough. But I got my best half earlier this year in Liverpool with a 1:57ish so it's achievable for sure.

Great stuff. You sound at about the level and speed I was at a year ago.

My body didn't really let me train properly for my marathon and I won't be trying again. If I ever get niggle free for long enough I'll try for a half. Did sub 2hrs on my only half (very hilly in the Lake District) and the first half of the London Marathon.

Should have started running before my mid 40s!

Woohoo - 10k training has improved my stamina. Perfect conditions at hackney marshes, I smashed my PB by 25 seconds. Baulked on the line by a group of slow finishers. kingcurtley and sub 27 in sight. 8-)

Next 3 parkruns in Florida clermont waterfront, with a neat variation the middle week, alternate course, shaded trail. 8-)

Nice work Brightwater. You'll have to stretch those legs a little further to overtake! Pushed my time up to 26.34 at Rutland Water yesterday...

No joy yet on operation sub-23, but I ran my 5th fastest time yesterday with a 23:22. I can basically see that almost all my last 12-15 runs have been sub-24 so I'm keeping consistent. I'd run 23:55 last week and deliberately paced myself before trying to stretch out in the last 500m.

Still can't work out if I'll be secretly relieved or bricking it if I get into London next year.

First run of any description in 6 weeks combined with a bad back meant I failed to get under 21 minutes this time out. 21-09. Work to do. After next week I won't be able to do it for a while as my son is back working and needs dad's taxi!

Just had my 3rd consecutive week off Parkrunning for the first time since I started running back in 2013.

Should be back next week. Hope so as I can't miss many more as I plan to run my 200th Parkrun on my mumblemumbleth birthday next Feb which has been my aim since I worked out it was a saturday some 3 years ago

Finally got round to buying some new shoes and they got me a PB first time out :D Only 6 secs off but I felt it was actually a slow run compared to my previous best, so I know there's a lot more to be gained.

Oh, and I've just realised myself and murf were at the same Parkrun last week. Totally forgot this was your local run mate

Spooky! How much did you beat me by???!!!

I would have been the tired looking bloke with a fresh looking dog!

Did you enjoy our course? Deceptively tough with the first half's gradient and a sapping stoney surface. Lovely location though.

Just over a minute. Didn't enjoy the boardwalk bit where I nearly crashed into a member of the public coming the other way, and it's a pretty narrow course, but other than that, it was a nice course.

The boardwalk is more fun when frosty!

I don't like the narrowness either, especially when there are loads of tourists like you! (Ok, there are always loads of tourists). Harder still when you have a dog in tow. Good challenging course though. A minute slower than typical courses IMO.

Got a new one starting near us in January which will hopefully reduce/spread numbers. Think it will be even tougher on forest roads and trails.

I've got a little Parkrun tourism coming up. Reading this weekend and then either Richmond or Old Deer Park in December. Might try and sneak another visit to Southwark too.

No progress on my pb. I had a 23:57 a little a while ago and I've been fairly consistent in the 24s now but a back injury meant a little time off recently.

I do wonder how fast I would have been as a kid (or at my peak!).

Mind you.... I am already fondly remembering how fast I was way back in 2015 and 2016. I did my fastest run on my local course in a few months last weekend and that was 2 minutes outside my PB.

Have to say I'm enjoying my running even if parkrun isn't a priority. I raced a 10k in Bexhill-on-Sea last weekend and got a PB of 49:07 finishing 26th out of 218. Absolutely loved it.

Now training for my next half marathon doesn't begin until mid December, maybe I'll have a pop at my Parkrun best for a few weeks

Cracking time. I've only run a couple and not beaten 50. There were both fairly hilly (51:30ish back in rolling Essex and not far off that in a rather more up and down Langdale) - PBs not easy up here where a 1 in 10 is considered flat!

A couple of PBs recently for me, neither of which moved me up the table or broke the 24 min barrier. Also did one of the hilliest courses, Tring, last week. Trying to run up a slippery hill reminded me of the travelator in Gladiators. Would love to go back there when it's dry - lovely course.

My wife and I have started making a particular effort to run trails in preparation for a visit to one of the two Parkruns near Richmond next month. I love that running and racing gives us the opportunity to see England

Finally through the 24 min barrier and up 3 places after last week's run. I think I run better in the cold. The nearest 3 parkruns to us were off due to ice yesterday so we went to a course we hadn't been to since July. Knocked nearly 2 mins off my previous best at that course.

Down another place...

My nearest yesterday was cancelled due to work on the course so I dodged snow, ice and road closures to go to another only for it to have been cancelled due to ice.

Now have to run at xmas or new year to time my 200th run for my birthday.

parkrun bingo will motivate 10yo Brightwater IV aka Statto to run.

Take your finish times seconds and get all 60 numbers.

I have 17 to get after 97 runs, top 53 x 6. Brightwater jr is doing well - 4 to get after 118 runs, top 27 x 7.

We are planning new year double, run 100 at home, gunpowder; I will be on 100 for 90 minutes then running 101 at oak hill.

Happy Christmas and new year to all FISO parkrunners. 8-)

Anyone seen this? Parkruns listed by elevation - could be interesting to compare times on courses and to prepare for courses you've not been to before.
Don't know if anyone remembers this but the hilliest one came in at around 450ft of elevation.

Somebody has down a Strava check(?) on the one opening near me in January (Whinlatter Forest) and apparently it comes in at around 600ft  which is about 20% of the way up Scafell Pike from sea level.

Anybody fancy it?? I'll be there (til about lunchtime probably)

Not sure about that Murf

I've been chugging away under 24 minutes consistently - think I've done 10 of the last 12 regular parkruns at my local course, only missing for being away at Xmas and yesterday due to my son being unwell.

I've entered my local Wilmslow half-marathon (mid-March), the Alderley Edge bypass 10k in mid-summer and the Wilmslow festive 10k in November. Should keep me busy!

Excellent stuff.

I'd like to do my local half marathon in April but not sure I can nurse my body through training. Its a tough, hilly course so don't want to do it unless I'm fully up to it. My new Parkrun (starts next week) should be practice for the hills! Hardly done any runs other than Parkruns for the past few months and my times are subsequently rubbish. Only very rarely got under 25 mins (flat course) or 26 mins (local course) at all in 2017. 27:27 yesterday which is fairly typical.

I see the south of Scotland finally got a Parkrun yesterday - when 370 turned up at Dumfries (Crichton). Might have to try that in the summer for my first foreign run.

4 weeks to my birthday which should be my/our 200th run if all goes to plan.

Nyd double, after gunpowder I expected a comfortable run at Oak hill...due to flooding, alternative course running up a big hill 3 times. Gunpowder hill is now peanuts. Target for spring/summer sub 27 at hackney marshes.

Did the debut of my new local Parkrun last week. Apparently the estimates of 600ft of ascent are incorrect. It is over 700ft. Felt like more, an absolute beast. Reach the top of a slope, turn the corner and see a steeper one.

Took me bang on 30 minutes and I thought I had a particularly good day and my dog was super keen on the new course and so assisted brilliantly, hauling my aching bones up the slopes. So I won't expect to beat that in a while.

Just read the course is 4 inches deep in snow in places at the moment. Might have to trade Faye in for a husky. Hope I get round in time to see the 12:30 ko team news....

Cheers. Forecast is for a wet/sleety start to my next 200 tomorrow morning so I'll go and do the one 1000ft up to see if we can get snow instead!
