Neath boy wrote: 02 Jan 2020, 11:43 Wow just checked. That’s a lot of parkruns. I didn’t realise there had been so many.
October 2004 it started, call it 15 years and about 50 a year and that is 750 runs. Record was 752 on 27/12 according to Wiki with one person doing 502 different ones

Only named 'parkrun' in 2008. This thread started in 2013. I started in November 2013 (just over 6 years ago)

Record is 11:16  (with a wheelchair) or 12:24  (with a dog) or 13:48 (unassisted) or 18:11 (FISOer)

(thankyou wiki!)

Article on that 12:24 dog-assisted time

A further 6 seconds taken off my PB and I'm having a ball with my running at the moment. Last 3 weeks I've gone 22:12, 21:58, 21:51 with the latter two being the first times I've cracked the 22-minute barrier at my home parkrun. Did the New Year's Day double at Lyme Park (hilly!) and Wilmslow (home) and hoping to try a bit more tourism this year. Got a holiday in Jersey planned but annoyingly the flights are SAturday morning both ways and too early to do the parkrun first! Also added in a 36:30 in an 8k trail race the day after my 21:58 effort.

Current routine involves a bowl of porridge about an hour before a run and an espresso just before heading out - I've been flying ever since doing this  Also did a December running challenge which saw me cover c.135km between Dec 1-24 and all that mileage seems to have got me into a good running zone. Went out on Christmas Eve to do 5k and ran 10 miles.....

Good stuff - I remember from my marathon training that it made 5k seemed easy after a while - hard to go much faster though when you are set in your ways re a pace that you can keep going for hours. Try though - just 41 secs more to move up a place on the FISO ladder.

PS I said a few posts back that the maximum is 55 in a year - technically it is actually 58! As well as the 52 weeks, 2 extra at New Year and 1 at Xmas (for 55) you can go international and do a bonus 1 in Germany for some holiday and 1 in the US (thanksgiving?) making 57.

The 58th? Well, how about 53 saturdays in a year? Usually only happens when the 1st of Jan is a saturdaybut that extra one is cancelled out because it stops new year bonus counting extra. However in a Leap Year where the first of January is a Friday then there are still 53 saturdays, 3 UK bonuses and 2 international bonuses making 58 (once every 28 years on average).

More scary big numbers (and, no, I'm not talking about my recent times)-

"To date 6.6 million people have registered with parkrun, last weekend we delivered more than 2,000 events for the first time, and in total we have supported 64 million instances of walking, jogging, running, and volunteering. "

While I'm on, here's a nice pic from my local parkrun from the parkrun UK Facebook page this week-

Image

Scary numbers - 200m/700ft of ascent in your 5km - anybody???

Charlotte Arter beat the parkrun world record for women yesterday. 15:49. She came 8th

She held it before at 15:50 and also has a 15:56. Ignoring 3 she did back in 2010 she has done 7 parkruns with a worst time of 16:14. That is top consistency!

Saw 900+ in the Cardiff results yesterday. Busy.

My route is indeed stunning, especially on sunnier days than yesterday. Tough though, comparing to Arter's time, only one woman has beaten 21 minutes in 2 years.

A whopping 14 seconds taken off my PB this morning, no idea where it came from! A fairly damp course too with a few large puddles to be negotiated several times. Target for the year still 21:30 so a few more seconds to try and shave off from somewhere.....while tomorrow brings a 20k outing as my last long run before a half-marathon on March 15th.

Good running el p.

Big "water feature" at my Parkrun the last 2 weeks but still got my best time in over a year (26:30). Not great but getting some form and fitness back after a lot of hassles last year. Also upping my midweek mileage, did a run just under 8 miles in midweek. Pushing it up at nearly a mile a week and, if it all goes well, will do my local half marathon in May. Only really able to run twice a week so difficult to push on too quickly.

My local parkrun has now been postponed 3 weeks running due to wind closing the forest. Given me a chance of practicing keeping a constant pace rather than slowing and speeding up depending on the gradient.

New target is beating my local course PB of 29:55.

I switched from winter road runs to local park for the first time Wednesday. I stayed 20 metres clear of other users. 2 training boxers ignoring social distancing.

My neighbour ran twice today, arrest him...if it's not on Strava officer it didn't happen.

Missing parkrun....my local half-marathon on March 15th was the same day as the Premiership Rugby Cup Final featuring my club, Sale, at home. Neither happened, with the rugby called off on the 13th or 14th owing to the opposition having someone go down with the virus. The half-marathon was called off at 2am on the 15th in a shambolic turn of events. The organisers kept trying to let it go ahead and promised some form of distancing measures. I asked them for more detail via twitter and they said they were just finalising them - several hours later I asked again and they came back with a private message about marshals ensuring spacing. With 4k runners crammed into a small space that sounded ridiculous! The dilemma for me was having bailed on my neighbour for the Manchester half in October due to injury, I was reluctant to leave him in the lurch again. Fortunately the organisers saw sense eventually, prompted I think by the residents on the start street getting increasingly vocal.

So we woke up that morning to find it cancelled, neighbour asked if I fancied a 10k anyway and I sid "why not run a half marathon anyway seeing as we've trained for it?".

So we did, and I took 14 minutes off my best from 2 years ago. Hurrah. Down to 1:45:49 now. Enjoy your running folks.

PBs only count on official runs My half Marathon PB was for the first half of the London Marathon! 1:58 something. Only proper half was 1:59 something on a very hilly Cumbrian course. Beating 2hrs almost killed me...

My planned half marathon this year was early May. Had got up to about 10 miles in practice. Eased off on the distance since but still doing a 10k or so every week.

Rescheduled for mid October. Will it happen? I hope so. Not done a non-parkrun organised run since a 10k in December 2016!

Missing parkruns and events generally here. The catalogue of refunds and wasted cash is lengthy

London Winter Run, replaced by a virtual run (i.e. run at home and we'll send you a medal celebrating a run somewhere else where you weren't), cancelled the night before as a result of Hurricane something or other. Went to see Adam Kay and drink with wife instead.

Reading Half Marathon, postponed to November on a date that already clashes with another event so deferred to 2021 date tbc.

Fleet Half Marathon, cancelled day before, deferred to March 2021.

Dorney Lake 5k, cancelled and replaced by virtual run and with a voucher for another run one day.

Media City 5k, ditto

Newbury Racecourse 10k, ditto

Rock n Roll Liverpool 5km, half marathon and mile - cancelled and all deferred to 2021

Beat Box Hill, postponed to June 2021

Still clinging onto hope for the Great South Run, Poppy Half Marathon and Run Silverstone much later this year.

Yes same here Mystery. A string of cancelled runs duathlons and triathlons this year.

Motivation is accordingly low at present.

At least Murf's virtual weekly marathon keeps me getting out running on the weekend.

I don't get these offers of "we will keep your money but when you run the same distance anywhere we will send you a crappy old medal"!

Only one I had planned to enter has rearranged for October. Hopefully will be allowed by then but will it be in time to putceverything in place?

I see Parkrun for some unexplicable reason need at least 2 weeks to restart. NZ has just reopened so Parkrun is now legal there but the events won't start there til at least July. Ridiculous. So, as soon as we are freed in the UK there will be more frustration and waiting.

The weekly mass participation Parkrun events are set to resume in England by the end of October.

Parkrun events were suspended worldwide in March because of the global coronavirus pandemic.

Events will operate within Parkrun's government-approved Covid-19 framework,

though there have been "minimal changes" to its operating model.

Parkrun said it was a "watershed moment to drive change" in creating a "healthier and happier planet".

Parkrun's chief executive Nick Pearson said they "are not able to commit to the same timeline across the other Home Nations" due to current restrictions across Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland.

"However, we are aware of the implications of only opening in England and are continuing our work to overcome the challenges that this presents," he added.

Yep. Great to be back, although running over 200m of ascent in this sun and heat isn't to be recommended - even if it is a tad cooler than the last few days.

At least I have set a PLPB (post lockdown pb) that is easy to beat next week

Blimey, didn't realise how long I'd been away - that post in May 2020 was the last time I was here I think!

Was great to be back for the return. In the weeks prior to it, I'd started running the course again (regularly did segments thereof but not the whole thing) and for a month before, an unofficial (not)parkrun took place with maybe 2 dozen turning up to potter round the course (all in keeping with guidelines of course). Since then, I've pulled my finger out and volunteered for the first time ever, with my second stint today and third booked in a month hence.

Miles off my best thanks to the lockdown lifestyle but been doing lots of running and enjoying having races back - two 10ks and a shorter trail race done in recent weeks, a half marathon tomorrow and another next month. Parkrun really is fab!

Everybody/anybody still parkrunning?

We've done 17 of the 19 weeks since English parkrunning restarted (missed 2 in August when my dog, Faye was injured) including taking our tally past 100 on our local run - that one was cancelled on saturday due to high winds so we popped back to our previous local course and did a 27:50, our fastest official run for 20 months (OK, that is really just our best since lockdown). Quite happy with that as we are both feeling our years and have usually been running 33-35 minutes on our hilly, regular course so nice to know what we can still do on the (relative) flat.

I did Jersey parkrun last week for the first time in a little while due to 2 brushes with Covid plus a knee injury. Got round in 28-something which was fine.

Having a weekend in the UK this weekend and if we get in early enough we'll visit a parkrun - possibly Alice Holt but not certain.

Best recent run was the Great South Run in Southsea a few weeks ago. 10 miles in just under 100 minutes which was alright really. Should have done the Reading Half after that but a positive test put paid to that one. All well now though, and had been most of the time anyway.

I have been off running for several months with Achilles issues. Hope to gradually get back in the new year.

I'll have to tell me wife, she should inform FISO if something happens to me!
I do hope he's okay!
