You are the new Worm! Next week looks like it should be a close tie as well, but then the way the fixtures are for rd9 every tie looks close. It won't work out that way, someone will lose by 200 because that's the way it goes. I couldn't guess who though.

What can I say? Ted Bull was stiff to meet me after those back to back narrow losses. I'm loaded with St Kilda defenders & had nothing to show for it  It's was like being loaded up with Vidic, Ferdinand, O'Shea, Evra & VDS & still getting done even though they keep clean sheets :? So I've got a winning streak of 1 on the trot & am keen to stick my neck out for 2 in a row.

Stat me up Sainters 8-)

You've got a real good chance this week Worm, although Unc's over his injury crisis so it won't be by much. It could come down to the Saints-Lions game because I don't think Unc has many Saints players.

No chicken counting for sure. St Kilda at the Dome (sorry Etihad!!) is always promising for cheap possesions though & that is what I factored in when picking this team before the season kicked off. Risky, but fun too

Looking forward to Jnr returning to the park too!!

Well that was a little too close for comfort

Gram decided to pull out leaving me a little thinner down back with no emergencies to take his place. Sam Mitchell as captain getting me over the line against Uncle Sam.

All the best for the remainder of the season Unc.

Cheers Worm,

late change in captain from Gablett to Cox did for me. Would have won if I'd left it alone

Just glad to be competitive again after a few weeks with more donuts than Rick Wallers lunch box to be honest.

Round 10 Results and Ladder

Image

Image

After the low scores of Rd 9 where no-one scored more than 2000 - with Five Long Bones’ 1972 the highest - we really stepped up for Rd 10. This time SunderlandFan hit the 2267 high score, with all but three of the other players hitting the 2000 mark. Well done us, up to 107 in the league rankings!

Image

Image

As one of the three Atx1303 can think himself lucky that he was up against Melbourne – sorry, Tedbull - this week. The other sub-2000 score came from Zulu Warrior who paid dearly for the surprise late withdrawal of Mr Reliable Joel Corey, with a back-on-form Scotty Mac upping his Rd 9 tally by over 400. X-Man also managed the same turnaround, but that wasn’t quite enough to match Sarky as he continued his impressive average. His 2210 score keeps him in the top 1000 overall. Well 'un Sarky!

In the week that saw the demise of the most embarrassing Australian Wallace since Braveheart, UncSi was the dreamteam Freo this round with a score that would have beaten most but not SunderlandFan. Meanwhile, M-boy massacred the mercurial metatarsal. Admittedly 2263-2129 isn’t exactly a massacre, but it was good enough to end Five Long Bones’ season long unbeaten run. Eric remains top though, as Canary Yellow stopped dalythgoe’s six-match winning streak with a narrow 2123-2114 win. That was the closest of all the ties.

One winning run did continue, with Worm claiming his third victory on the bounce at the expense of Cookiez. Finally, Tippaz keeps himself in touch with a narrow triumph over Golden Bear who was also cursed by the biggest Corey letdown since Lost Boys 2.

Round 11 Preview

Image

Round 11 is the half way point. With seven games behind us and seven to go before the split it’s a vital week. TedBull and Unc will be sweating like MP’s leafing* through the Daily Telegraph. Both are seven wins off the traditional target of 8 wins to reach the top eight so, like the Swiss Guard on a training exercise, they have little room for manoeuvre.

Ted has the daunting task of tackling Sarky’s Queens, while Unc might just fancy his chances against Scotty who has been as up and down as a manic depressive elevator. Nevertheless losses here could see them adjust their aim to the Minor Final as no team has reached the top eight of a Fiso league with fewer than seven wins.**

At the other end of the table and despite their Round 10 losses, Five Long Bones and dalythgoe look assured of their places in the Major Finals Series. But they’ll face stiffer opposition than a law against Viagra as they swap opponents to take on Canary Yellow and M-boy in upcoming round

In the other matches it’s Midtable Earth where the orcs and elves doing battle (I’m not saying which is which): SF vs ZW, Atx vs X-Man, Cookiez vs Tippaz, Worm vs Golden Bear. There’s a joke about a ring somewhere, but I can’t be arsed thinking it up.

Good luck all (except that Mancunian halfwit Dave ) and keep up the good scores!

* Flick.ing is changed to flicking by the Fiso swearfilter :?
** I didn't actually check that, but it sounds right :)

Thanks Mark that gave me a chuckle. I'm peed off how I've got a higher percentage in scores than you and I'm in the mid table doldrums. Right ya eff I'm gonna rip it up like Swan and finish top and all with 3,4, or 6 trades.

You read it here first :P 8-)

:D

I've had the fourth highest number of points scored against me, only Zulu Warrior, scottymac and golden bear have had more scored against them, so it hasn't been easy being this lucky. :P

But you're right, if you look at it the total points league you and Zulu are comfortably in the top eight and CY well out. It might be luck, it might be team management, I don't know. It certainly doesn't make things easy because you really do need to keep an eye on your opponent every week. And some times there's nothing you can do. I was going perfectly well in rd7 but a couple of no-shows and I lose a game. I know it'll happen again too.

But that's what makes it exciting, I go into every week wondering whether I'll win because it's a competitive league. Even in less competitive leagues than ours the teams down the bottom will spring the odd surprise.

Our match was a bit of an anti climax Mark, it was never really close after Gilbees blinder  , I even panic traded my way into trouble especially  at least Dave dropped points as well, but well done all the same, now to decide whats the wrong thing to do with Chornes, if I had picked up Broughton last week instead of Muston, I would have better cover, and could get Muston this week with everyone else, might have to do the unthinkable and do a straight swap, Stinky  Broughton and miss out on the the 60 large, I`ll wait and see if Grima looks worth a punt maybe, it`s a mess whatever

Luck for sure, last week i had the 3rd lowest score of the round but was matched up with one of the 2 teams i would have beaten and got away with a win.

Some teams have used a lot of transfers and its lucky if you play them later in the year when they start donutting, some will be hoarding transfers for a tilt at the ladder later in the year so obviously playing them early is a good thing.

I tend to think these things even out over the year and the top 8 teams tend to be there on merit. Right now i am not a top 8 team but i suspect i might be come week 18 or so. If i can scrape a few wins now i could have another major final appearance to look forward to.

I'm thinking of missing out on Muston because I don't have any real midfield issues as long as Coughlain comes back. I quite like the idea of covering potential donuts with a trade to the likes of Swan or Bartel though 8-)

I'm flattered that people 'panic trade' before matches against me. 8-)

Gilbee not turning up was probably a big factor, right enough. It's also worth noting that 2263 is my highest score in DT. It might have been put in the shade slightly by Kelly's score, but in four years of AFL DT my previous high score was the 2246 I got in round 18 last year. See the posts on 'luck' above.

I can't see anyone else in the defence other than Broughton if it's just for cover. It's a shame because although it wasn't part of my plans I'd sign another rookie prospect in a heartbeat. The injury to Cornes has provided that opportunity/excuse. As it is I'll probably dump him on the bench and play without cover, for a week at least.

Well played Canary Yellow, my trade of Grima who gave me no points was the killer. It's strange that both myself and 5LB should lose on the same week :? .

I think that everyone will have Muston next week even with the backs dropping like flies.

Round 11 Results and Ladder

Not quite the massive scores of round 10, but four over 2000 and a further seven over 1950 sees the league get an average of 1954 to take us into the top 100 leagues (at 100). Cookiezncream's 2136 makes him this week's star man.

Image

Image

Ted Bull clearly benefited from his holiday by beating the season's high scorer Sarky. As Ted learned from Basic Instinct, peaking at the right time can be very rewarding. After snatching one win he'll look for more of the same in future rounds. That match was close, but Atx1303 v X-Man was the nail biter of the round (despite sounding like one of those terrible vs films: Freddy vs. Jason, Alien vs. Predator, King Kong vs Godzilla. Atx the AFL DT- playing cyborg vs X-Man the AFL DT playing superhero. Total shite but eff it, I'm sure Uwe Boll would direct it.). Atx won it by just 21 points. Is he the luckiest DTer this season or is it all about timing?

Unluckiest in recent rounds is probably Unc. After two weeks of looking like Laurent Fignon, he finally got his Greg LeMond moment with a win against Scottymac. Cookiez' high score was recorded at the expense of Tippaz in the only all-antipodean clash of the week, while Worm dealt with the challenge of Golden Bear to stretch his run to four consecutive wins. Both Cookiez and Worm can thank their lucky Ablett's. :)

M-boy's Crocodile Dundee needed its jaw re-wired after a smack by Dalythgoe who achieved the biggest winning margin of Round 11. Dave now leads the league, swapping places on 'goal difference' with Five Long Bones. Bones' win over Canary Yellow was also more emphatic than many expected. Both M-boy and CY are - like a tour of the African coast - missing Chad.

Speaking of Africa, Zulu Warrior did the honorable thing on AFL Women's Round. He lay down and let SunderlandFan ride him. Fiso AFL DT's token bit of 'window dressing' got her second consecutive +2000 score.

Round 12 Preview

Image

M-boy and Canary Yellow will want to put this week's disappointment of failing to challenge the leaders behind them. M-boy is up against the resurgent Ted Bull while CY faces the man one place behind him, X-Man. The tie of the round sees the leader of the league ladder dalythgoe hosts the leader of the points rankings Sarky. Second plays third as Five Long Bones takes on Atx and Worm will be looking to continue his winning streak against Zulu Warrior.

I dont think the whole of Africa could have saved my week never mind Chad. Still its a lot easier to accept a crushing defeat rather than a close one. I need to trade up for at least 1 and possibly 2 of the ABC sooner rather than later.

Rich  Bartel looking awfully tempting right now.

Round 12, Week 1

Image

It is the 'half way stage' of Round 12 in the AFL. With five games played and three to come next weekend I thought we should have a look at the Fiso DT head-to-heads. I don't have perfect information here, so please excuse a few slip-ups.

In the first match Cookiezncream is a long way off Scottymac. But with Enright, McPhee, Jolly, Ryan O'Keefe and Steve Johnson to come he'll be hopeful of getting more from the twelve to play than he did from his first 10 players. It might yet be determined by which has captained Gary Ablett Jr.

UncSi hasn't gotten much more than Cookiez from his 10, but stands a much better chance of overhauling Tippaz who has already fielded his captain in this round. Tippaz guns Swan, Hasleby and Pavlich face Ablett, Selwood, Mackie and Enright for Unc, plus the interesting side-battle of which of Cheney, Grimes, Broughton and Sidebottom are named.

Ted Bull and M-boy both captained Big Cox this round, so the contest was already 21 v 21. It's now down to seven-a-side with Ted's Cheney, Enright, Shaw, Swan, Hasleby, Sandilands and Cloke chasing a 132 point deficit against Milburn, Mackie, Grimes, Bartel, Selwood, Pavlich and Sidebottom. Not insurmountable, but M-boy must be favourite. 8-)

Dalythgoe on 1374 is streets ahead of Sarky on 1006 but the latter has four players to spare including Enright and Bartel and isn't prone to low-scoring. This one will be close.

Canary Yellow will be very pleased with his 1410 so far, aided by Cross and Hargrave in the Bulldog's crushing defeat of Port. X-Man has scored well enough that both these teams should get over the 2000 mark, but that's unlikely to be enough to win it. X will need big scores from some of his remaining nine such as Enright, Milburn, Pendlebury and Bartel.

Atx1303 and Five Long Bones have both scored solidly in the first week of round 12. Only 45 points separate them and both have Ablett and their captain to play (coincidence?).

SunderlandFan is the top scorer so far. It won't remain that way if CY keeps up anything like his average. But with GAJ, Steve Johnson and Andrew Mackie to play Little Miss Sunderland is a cert for a third consecutive +2000 score. Golden Bear might make it too, if the likes of Corey, Hasleby and Pavlich score well. Nevertheless, it looks like SF will stay where she's happiest.

With a team full of Saints, Worm probably expected more. But Fisher and Geary were shite. Then again, so was Buddy Franklin for Zulu Warrior (and me, and probably half the DT players in the world ). If Stephen Hill keeps his place and both have captained Ablett I'll call this for Zulu, but it's really too soon to say, to paraphrase Xhou Enlai.

Taking out the common players, I need Cheney, mackie, enright, gablett (c), bartel and selwood to outscore McPhee, Hasleby and Swan by more than 321 points.

If they all score their average then I should be OK, but pretty reliant on cap'n gablett having a great game against Freo, where he doesn't have a great average. Risk that the Cats dump on Freo and Gablett gets limited TOG??

Could go right to the wire - with 8 players across our 2 teams in the last game at Subiaco it's not going to be decided until the last minute...

Nice mid round update btw Guru

Thanks. There's a fair amount of guesswork in it because I don't know which players everyone fielded. But it's clear that a lot of the games are very close, none moreso than your game with Tippaz. I think you might sneak it.

I`ts down to 4 players in this one.

Enright Avg 89 v Suban Avg 49

Lockyer Avg 98 v Broughton Avg 73

Sidebottom Avg 68 v R.O.K Avg 87

Sylvia Avg 93 v Chapman Avg 102

+ 45 pts

My players named first, and we both have Ablett as (C)

I wouldn`t like to tempt fate here :|

I'm getting a right royal placking from CY - I can't believe he hasn't won every game with the team that he has - he's averaging over 100 with each player and he still has got some strong players to come...unless he's jut been spawny when he's playing me - which would be par for the course...
