The Spanish prize may not be worth anything like that by the end of the comp

Looks interesting, but a shame about the prize!!

I guess no-one will be buying Spanish for their foreign properties

What's the problem with Spanish property? Got one (inherited) and no plans to sell or any wish to sell for profit in the future. Does that mean I'm ok?

Not recentlly, heard plenty of talk earlier in the year of over building...well shock horror, I think a 5 year old could tell you problems were around the corner.

In for the long haul, not overly concerned :)

Ditto, didn't go so far as to auto-pick but what I've done is probably no better...

Might as well, looks like there'll only be 1 or 2 members anyway.

You're fine. It's the muppets putting deposite down on swathes of property on various coastlines on the assumption of flipping them for profit later on. Assuming they are built legally as well

That'll be a free week's stay for the advice, please

Or the people laden with negative equity that want to sell

Allegedly, there is some strange land right in Spain, where the Govt can take some of your land to build on. Can anyone confirm this?

I think it's called Valencia

I've seen similar stuff on the box in recent years - to do with town hall grabbing land and uprooting expats. In some cases land has been illegally built on, in others it is legally a bit tenuous I think.

Just added John Terraced to the FISO Friends League. Not got a clue what to do here, but the chance to pick up some John Lewis vouchers for the missus could ease the stick I get for playing the other games.

I'm in there too.

Anyone know how they're calculating the overseas prices? I can't find any reference to it.

Overseas properties are only subject to news-based fluctuations:

Looks like I was wrong.

The deadline for entry to the comp is midnight tomorrow and we're already got 16 budding Kirstie Allsopps on board. :)

Funny thing is I don't think any of us have a real clue as to what we're doing, should be fun. ;)

You certainly are, as is the other person who signed up after I last posted.

I was mistaken about none of us knowing what we're doing aparently. I've just noticed Admin has made loads of changes already, he can't seem to settle on which country will do the best :)

A lucky dip for me.

I'm in. Being totally ignorant on price trends I've been very decisive, deliberately done no research and gone with instinct and am not going to tinker. Have started a bit of DIY and set up a Neighbourhood Watch scheme to get the local prices moving.

Just did a google search - not sure if it helped or not - Argentina is not on option

At the deadline an hour ago, there were fewer than 10,000 entrants.

Blimey thats a lot more than I woul have thought!

Anyone see the programme on BBC2 last night about property, looks like prices are heading down, but will the average sale price still go up?

Judging by this house prices can only go up. The problem is people compare us with Germany and France and say the price will have to go down but what they don't take into account is the lack of land we have in comparison.

I heard this morning that if we had the same density of housing as Jersey we'd have room for 150 million more houses.

The other thing is people just look at one area (like the SE) and point out prices are going down there ignoring the fact that the prices are massively inflated there but in other areas prices are only just starting to go up.

I tried to use a bit of vague logic when picking my properties concerning which areas would go up in value (e.g. not buying in SE). Not sure it worked and maybe I should have spent more than 2 minutes on it.

A little bit of research may also have helped  Would have been a good speculative use of time with less than 10,000 entries......
