FISO NFL ESPN Season 12

Post by Rick Spangle »

Back for another season :D

Invites have been emailed to all of last years league - positive replies from the following, for which many thanks.
(I'll edit the list as and when I get other replies).

Returning:

Fulchester Fish
Get It Right Next Time
Cornish Tinners
Bookhouse Boys
Putney Gooners
Yorkshire Dragons
Barry Crockers
Luck Skywalker
Bruschi 54s
Forest Tigers
Chingford Gingers
X-Men

As a reminder, due to popular demand, this year there will be an IR slot - no other changes from last season.

I've had a suggestion to abandon the compulsory keeping of two players. This seems possible on the site - an owner would just pick from the available pool of players when it was their draft spot. (Long-winded explanation here).
http://games.espn.com/ffl/resources/hel ... per-league
Interested in people's thoughts - I'll put up a poll on the ESPN league homepage. If we hit a majority of the league members voting for change (ie 7 votes for), that's what I'll do.

Still waiting on X-Man :(
I'd like to give him as much time as possible as he is one of the founder members of the league, and ever-present up till now. But I'm opening up a reserve list of anyone who might want to jump in - top of the list will be another longstanding player, Crystal Tipps, who missed out last year. Please post here.

Thanks Mark - so we're guaranteed a full league, excellent stuff.
So now on to the all important draft time.
Due to the fact that there's one poll up already on the ESPN site (and as an aside,a few more votes on that would be good  ) and one poll is all that's allowed at any one time, I'll list a few options here, and sit back for various thoughts. (they're arranged in order of my preference!)

Sunday 2nd Sept late evening (from around 9pm)
Sunday 26th Aug late evening (as above)
Wednesday 29th Aug late evening (as above)
Either of the 2 Sundays earlier in the evening (from around 6pm)
Friday 31st Aug late evening

Starting the ball rolling, I can't do Thursday 30th or Sept 1st at all, and the Friday option above would be very much a last resort.

X-Men are back as well, so we're a full league, with same managers as last year :D . Sorry Mark (Crystal Tips), you're down as first reserve if you want, should anyone drop out either this year or in future.

Any of the dates are fine with me as things stand at the moment, I guess the date chosen at the moment is best as it is nearer season kickoff so would help with any significant injuries, especially as the league is a big one and there are limited resources left on the FA list after we have all picked.

Having read various posts and PMs, 26th August 9pm is looking favourite at the moment - everyone so far is OK with that, and following up on Brimar's point, this date is still after week 3 of the pre-season, barring one game, which is almost always the most significant pre-season game (starters tend to play in this one and sit out the last week of pre-season (week 4). The reason I ranked this below the 2nd Sept date is that it's the Sunday before the August Bank Holiday, when people might perhaps be away, but personally I'm equally happy with either.
Thanks for all replies so far, by the way.

Still 5 people to vote on the poll :( I can't leave it open for ever - so I'll close it at 11.59 next Saturday. A reminder that we need a majority of the whole league voting for change, not just a majority of voters (there was another "poll" on a completely different subject, taken about two years ago, which I would have liked to have had the same rule  ), so as it stands at the moment, it's still going to be two keepers.
Also, no-one's grumbled about the draft date/time being 9pm Sunday 26th August, so I'l l lock that in now to give people some clarity in case they're trying to fix up other drafts in other leagues.

In response to a query from Forest Tigers - the keepers (however many we end up with!) must be locked in by 9pm UK time on Friday 24th August.

OK, it took until the 11th hour, but we have a majority voting for changing the keepers from a mandatory 2 to the owners choice of 0,1 or 2. So any of you who have reluctantly set 2 keepers can have a rethink. I should stress that when it was set at a fixed 2, I was able to select the two keepers from any roster in the case of an owner forgetting to set them by the deadline - now I won't be able to do that, so it's essential that each owner fixes their keepers by Friday's deadline to avoid losing any superstars.

How how does the new 0,1 or 2 keeper draft work? Crockers has no keepers, so when do they pick their lost picks?

Sorry Mark, missed this - I was already in the draft room. Easiest way to explain it is here.

And in answer to Stuart, it was a 7-strong bench last year as well.
