2015-16 SBru World Sevens Champion - MickMacP

Post by Mick MacPaddywack »

Hi All & welcome !!

I've just sent invites out to all that appear interested in Rugby prediction. Hope you would like to give this a bash. A little different from the other Rugby Prediction games that we play, this is run over 9 weekends, with each weekend being a stand-alone competition. However your points from each competition also accumulate for the overall championship. This can be tricky when the competition is in a time zone 12 hours ahead or behind yours, and making your day 2 (Sunday) predictions before the fixtures are finalised can be a bit of a gamble.
I recommend it though, so give it a go & enjoy.

The best reference material I can provide is the Official website here and
Wikipedia gives a good overview/history of the comp here
What is beautiful about the first link above is that you can watch the competition (all matches) live if you wish. :D

Use my invite to sign up to the SuperBru game / FISO league or just click here
Pool Name : FISO World Sevens
Pool Password : starrent

Cheers
MickMacP

Oh, for nurds (me) the defending Champion from 2015 is MickMacPaddywack
I can be fairly sure there will be a new winner this year

Unfortunately my Fantasy Sports weekend was interrupted and I missed picking across a number of competitions. With this HSBC World Rugby Sevens competition, though, there are 25 default picks allocated to everyone ... From SuperBru:
Default Picks
If you miss a pick, you will be eligible for a default pick, up to a maximum of 25 default picks.
This tournament uses community defaults. Instead of our old system where you would be allocated the home team in a default pick, you will instead receive the team which the community as a whole expects to win, based on the entire field of picks at kick-off.
Community defaults more accurately capture the purpose of defaults, which is to anticipate what a player might have picked had they been able to make their pick. The former home team system felt unfair when a weak team unexpectedly won at home against a strong team - in a pool the person who received a default would score a point while everyone else, who picked the strong team, would not score points.
Default picks do not have margins, and can thus only earn Win Points (if the default team does in fact win). No Margin Points or Bonus Points can be won with a default pick, and a player who defaults on one or more games in a round is disqualified from Grand Slam Points.
A default pick is not an automatic point. It is only awarded if the default team wins, and all it tries to do is guess what you would have picked if you had been able to make the pick.
Unfortunately the downside of these default picks is that they favour the non-participant as long as they last. But beware ... they run out quickly.

So in this first round of the HSBC World Rugby Sevens in Dubai we have three joint leaders:

Next round is South Africa next weekend ... we all have to do better remembering our picks for the second day (Saturday) matches ... Good luck all ...

2015-16 SBru World Sevens Prediction - Sport Billy wins Wellington

Post by Mick MacPaddywack »

Wellington provided some superb Sevens Rugby with the final being an absolute corker.
If you didn't get to see it, try get to see the highlights ...

It also provided us with another Winner, this time Sport Billy proving too good for the rest, winning the yellow cap outright on Saturday & sharing it with with Mc Bear on Sunday and the outright New Zealand / Wellington trophy by a good margin! Congrats!!

Image

It also provides us with a new leader on the Leaderboard, with Sport Billy's consistency driving him into the lead over MMP

Image

Next weekend we are in Sydney where the South Africans and Fijians will be looking for revenge ...
Expect a similar kickoff to this week late on Friday evening for the GMT people ...

Sydney provided Metal Warlord another opportunity to visit the podium and pick up a trophy ...
beating MickMacP and Stokie Bloke who were on the same points total for Sydney on the back of his Final Day performance (14pts) ... DAMMIT!! CONGRATS!!

Las Vegas provided us with a clear winner McBear who beat all comers by a long shot ...

Time zone differences may have affected Metal Warlord and others who faded on day 2

CONGRATS to McBear!!

Singapore provided Mc Bear with his second win of the season ...
(winning on countback rule with the highest score on the second day from Stokie Bloke)

Image

That makes it:
2 skins for MetalWarlord, Sport Billy and now McBear and
1 skin for both Mick and Stokie Bloke

Image

Mick MacP takes back top spot, but only on the back of a poor day 2 from Sport Billy

The penultimate round is in Paris (Friday 13-15th of May) ... time for Mick Mac P to win another skin ...

PARIS provided us with a decisive win for Mick Mac Paddywack, but only because both McBear and Metal Warlord faded on day 2

And Finally London provided us with the shock of the Scottish victory out of the blue, which only McBear anticipated (wonder why :)) gaining him victory through a very fine high Day 2 score ... nice one, chum.

So after 10 competitions, and a fairly evenly balanced season, we have
McBear with 3 skins (competitions: Las Vegas, Singapore & London)
Metal Warlord, Sport Billy and Mick MacP with 2 skins each and Stokie Bloke with 1 skin.

The overall winner, was my good self ... but judging by the competition in the latter half of the season, not next year!!

Thanks to everybody for participating, hopefully you will all be back next year ... the more, the merrier.
Mick
