Brought Karim Benzema in all of my teams except my Ajax block (onana blind Di ligt tegafalonica or whatever his name is🙂) and..............my top team👀😫. Don’t know if I want him to get hatrick or not🤔🤷🏽‍♂️ Actually sod it, I think I want him to do sod all. Was watching videos of him earlier banging in loads of CL goals vs Ajax for Lyon and Real Madrid earlier so could end up regretting it. This Ajax team are good though. Shame they will end up losing 3 or 4 of them (obviously de jong already at Barca).

Can’t believe bale isn’t starting😳 about a zillion times better than Vazquez🙄

Edit; 0-2😳👀😬

I made a few transfers due to the mini-tournaments, but then Juve looks like getting knock-out and with Real going out already I’m going to be struggling transfer wise and expect I’m going to struggle in the later stages.

What a great chance for the English teams.

Looking at last night's scores looks like quite a few in that boat now. I know A lot of mine are down to 8 or 9 players (or will have when I use final transfers tonight). My two knockout ties are 4-0 in my favour and 6-6 so a lot of it about. Those are the only two teams where I have transfer left now    .

Congrats to Madchester on holding on by one point in the end. I bet you were praying for a Spurs goal.

Thanks Rick yeah I was expecting Spurs to score but knew if they didn’t there could be a Liverpool block lurking which was a worry😫. Moura not starting was a bit of a blow too, especially as only had Salah, Mane, Lucas Moura left to play but it all worked out in the end🙂

If anyone’s interested, I’ll give a break down on my winning team from memory and having a quick look at my transfer history, starting xi, thought processes etc.

I started with a 532 (I gather a popular formation for telegraph players) with a full juve block plus kimmich at the back, depay bale Marlos in midfield, Messi lewandowski up front. For the group stage 10 of the 12 transfers were strikers out for strikers daisy chaining. Plus I did bale to salah and kimmich to pablo alcacer (which didn’t work out well but he was prolific for Dortmund at the time). Ronaldo was a let down in groups with his red card vs Valencia (though most would’ve had him) and Huntelaar also blanked for me but in general the transfers were a success with the likes of dzeko aguero greizmann Neymar Messi lewandowski etc scoring well (though I was annoyed to miss out on Jesus hatty vs shaktar)😫

Juve’s clean sheets, my midfield scoring well and kimmich scoring well combined with the strikers goals meant I was leading after groups with 439 points🙂

The transfer amnesty was crucial; was originally tempted to just go for broke on City block as they were favourites but was reluctant in the end as I thought if city say drew Barca in QF’s and got knocked out, I could be 7 or 8 players down with limited transfers. Also at the time we only knew last 16 draw and not QF onwards so I wanted to hold back trannys until I could plan properly once I knew how the 2 sides of the draw could go. So in the end I plumped for certain starters of players from top clubs with a great chance of not only making QF’s but also going all the way (meaning I could be more frugal with transfers as the comp went on). Again 532 and I put 2.8 Jordan sancho in as a pick n stick. Was hoping he’d get at least 4 games but of course spurs knocked them out last 16. His cheap price meant budget wasn’t really a problem for getting in elite players so he stayed in right till the end despite obviously not scoring me any points after spurs games.

I think my amnesty team was something like ederson Laporte pique alba Ramos lenglet, sancho sane sterling, Messi mbappe🤷🏽‍♂️ I remember not having salah mane or any Bayern players as tie seemed a 50/50 so didn’t want to burn trannys early plus I wasn’t expecting big points from there last 16 games even if they went through. Ronaldo came up trumps with his hatty vs atletico. Ramos suspension was a bigger but in general I got decent last 16 points.

Think my QF team at one point was ederson Laporte pique alba lenglet, salah mane sane sterling sancho Messi so briefly went 451. By now we knew the draw and I was happy that Barca n City were on different sides of draw and I thought the 4 city n 4 Barca players I had would last all the way to the final. Obviously it didn’t work out that way but at least they had at least the 2 QF games. Barca getting 2 cleans vs Utd was a bonus though I was aware that high up full Barca blocks with ter stegan n semedo were a threat. Especially after Barca 3 Liverpool 0 game. City going out to spurs was a kick in the teeth though I knew I still had a decent amount of transfers to ride through it (plus i knew that others on leaderboard would have City too). Ended up going ederson to ter stegen (to try and nullify the rising Barca blocks, only semedo I didn’t have) sterling to tadic, Laporte to David neres 352, sane to Lucas moura.

Was annoyed when tadic passed to neres and he hit the post at Wembley as I knew neres wouldn’t have been a popular pick and missed out on KC. Then was peed off neres got injured in warm up 2nd leg vs spurs😫. Pressure was on now especially with some teams in leaderboard getting too close for comfort and went down to 2nd after Liverpool 4 Barca 0. Basically Lucas moura hatty vs Ajax was the deciding factor in me winning and it gave me the 19 point cushion I needed for the final. And I needed every last point of it😬

I had a decent plan but as always I needed a fair amount of luck along the way🙂
