murf's 6 Nations Egg Chasing Predictions Knockout Cup 2021
Welcome to the 14TH (FOURTEENTH) annual Egg Chasing Predictions Knockout Cup run by me here on FISO.
The role of champions reads
2008: thelip
2009: Rookster
2010: amcal59
2011: Big Bird
2012: Big Bird (again!)
2013: Zoolander
2014: Rookster (beating Big Bird in final)
2015: Minitoff (beating Alchemist in final)
2016: Spinynorman (beating yorkshiredragon in final)
2017: Spencer 4 (beating robot in final)
2018: Moist von Lipwig (beating Arabian Knight in final)
2019: morganb (beating Maldini in the final)
2020: Shaggy365 (finally beating jimmyching in a much delayed final)
We all know that Egg Chasing remains incredibly dull and is just a way of posh kids using up a bit of pent up energy so they don't get too carried away when it comes to what they see as the main event afterwards - the communal showering.
Anyways, some posh kid at a posh school picked up a football years ago, turned it into an egg and invented a sport called Rugby. For some unknown reason he wasn't rightly beaten up by sane football loving kids but spawned a sport now played at international level across the world, well in and around the UK and a few places down under. All weird I know but a good excuse for another predictions comp .......
HOW THE CUP WORKS
There will be 5 weekends of matches, starting on Saturday 6th Feb, and the cup will have 5 rounds
Wk 1, 6/7 Feb - Last 32
Wk 2, 13/14 Feb - Last 16
Week off - wimps
Wk 3, 27/28 Feb - Last 8
Another week off - pathetic
Wk 4, 13/14 Mar - Semis
Wk 5, 20 March - Final
Each week will be straightforward knockout (if we get 32 entrants).
I am therefore limiting it to the first 32 entrants on a first pick (legally) first served basis - , strictly no altar egos or multi-entering etc etc. No reserving a space - you have to pick - edits allowed til first kick off.
If we get to 32 I will close the drawbridge and do a draw. If we do not get to 32 then the 16 highest scores go through round 1 (We have had 32, 25, 23 and 25in the last 4 years so don't hang around). If less than 16 (hope not!) then there will be some byes to round 3.
HOW TO PICK
For each of the 3 games listed just state which team you think will win and by how many points (you must nominate your winner and cannot select the draw). YOU MUST FOLLOW THE TEMPLATE OR RISK DISQUALIFICATION
HOW THE SCORING WORKS
Same as last year (and the year before and the year before and....)
For each game you start with 50 points and lose 1 for each point you are out. There will be 10 bonus points available if you get it spot on so a maximum score of 180 across the 3 games is possible. If your team only draws you lose an additional 5 points. If your team loses you lose an additional 10 points.
Example - You pick England to win by 22 points.
Eng win by 22: Spot on: 50 + 10 bonus = 60
Eng win by 24: Out by 2: 50 - 2 = 48
Eng win by 1: Out by 21: 50 - 21 = 29
Eng draw: Out by 22 and 5 pts off for draw: 50 - 22 - 5 = 23
Eng lose by 6: Out by 28 (22 + 6) and 10 points off for defeat: 50 - 28 - 10 = 12
Eng lose by 20: Out by 42 (22 + 20) and 10 poinst off for defeat: 50 - 42 - 10 = -2
Tie-break: In the event of a tie, matches will be decided as followed: closest to England result, closest to Welsh result, closest to Scottish result, closest to Ireland result, first to pick.
Rules:
1. My word is law
2. Edits allowed until first kick off then strictly no edits allowed.
3. Late entries allowed until subsequent kick offs.
4. ***** COVID - READY RULE *** I will make an executive decision on whether a round counts or not when matches get played, cancelled or postponed due to covid-19 or any other reason. Generally, we will include postponements to later in the 'gameweek'/before start of next round and if 2 games are played before the next round then it will count. 1 match maybe not.
5. Especially in light of rule 4, I reserve the right to tweak the rules as I consider necessary.
HOW TO ENTER
Just enter your picks on the thread (If you aren't ready just put any results down - you can always think about it later and edit)

We should open it up to 7 Nations and let Switzerland play. Scotland need to have someone they (think they) can beat!

Re: * NEW * murf's 6 Nations Egg Chasing Predictions Knockout Cup 2021 * NEW *
They’re less crap than they’ve been for a while, realistic shot at a top-half finish this year I’d say, if their key players stay fit. Ireland and Wales seem to be ageing teams in decline. I’d guess England and France as favourites as a return to the status quo of 20-25 years ago, though you never quite know what you’re going to get with the French.

As tempting as it is for most of us to go back in time to 2019, I'm not sure these are the right fixtures.
BBC has the first weekend's games as:
Italy v France
England v Scotland
Wales v Ireland

Is it really a year since I won this? Probably destined to hold the trophy for the shortest amount of time.

The 2019 thing was a copy and paste error (that I also made in 2020!) but I did get the fixtures from the BBC website!

Good news - The French government have confirmed it is all OK to do this egg chasing malarkey in these dark times. Not sure it counts as essential in my eyes (Tesco do deliver eggs to your door after all) but, hey ho, makes this game fully viable so merci.

Wales-Ireland will be the decisive one here and it’s a coin-flip. Need to check if Sexton, AWJ etc. are fully fit in order to decide...
