The good news for struggling managers in a few of the divisions is that there will now be no automatic relegation from the Championship, League One or League Two. Even Malrom, who could lose 9 out of 9, gets the chance to save himself in a play-off!

It's a pity the retirements can't be used to somehow provide more chances for promotion rather than to save those doomed from the drop. Its likely though that we might end up with a division less next season, so a moot point perhaps?

Yeah, I’ve just followed what I think the past procedure has been, in that reprieves from relegation happen first and then any remaining slots are filled by extra promotions. The exception being that where retirements happen after the play-offs, the play-off loser always fills the gap (whether they had been relegated or missed out on promotion).
Retirements are rare from the higher divisions, most happen in the Conference where it doesn’t impact anything else. As for next season, we’re only three down at the moment, I’ve always said I will allow a division to start as long as it has at least 6 players, and random teams to initially fill any gaps.

Jester prompted the question and will have a better recollection than me about the different ways this has been dealt with in the past, but is this worth a quick poll? Could one of the options be an extra Play-Off, extending the opportunity both up and down?
