Justin Replacement

Post by Canaryfan »

Sadly Justin has become Justout, so where do we go from here? Is it down to the dwindling transfer pile again I fear. Well yes.

In a team with little financial wiggle room I'm currently considering:
Zinchenko - has been getting his fair share of game time recently and even if he gets rotated there seem to be plenty of points to be had including sub appearances, although upcoming fixtures are not looking quite as easy as the recent ones.
Reece James - Chelsea looking better at the back but remains to be seen what Mr Tickle's preferred line-up will be and whether he'll be a bit of a Pep rotator. Fixtures not the worst.
Matt Targett - Seems to be a locked in starter, Villa have extra games to fit in to make up for being out of the Cup and they don't have any European distractions unlike the other two above. Cash and Konsa could also be considered.

After a fair few wasted transfers this season I could do with getting this decision right first time!

I think with 5 teams I will be mixing and matching from the above. A handy guide though - these are the top-rated defenders in the P/£ listings ....
Justin - 39.6
Targett - 34.2
Ogbonna - 33.8 (out for a while I've just read)
Cresswell - 33.7
Bednarek - 32.3 (improved value with Vestergaard's return)
Kilman - 30.5
Zouma - 30

James when I'm going like for like but I'm responding mainly to acknowledge the Haircut 100 reference 👏👏

Edit I also think the Lowton/Bardsley debate is over..Lowton has that position and has ok fixtures.

Had to reread it to notice, aah those were the days!

Back to the subject at hand, think it has to be James for me also though Targett is tempting me with the extra games to come.

Easy choice for me don’t want to faff about doing double changes so keeping it relatively like for like and simple so Targett comes in for me. With Villas extra games its also very appealing, not to mention they’re clean sheet record.

Only out THIS season? The way my transfers are going he’s a hold for me.

I know ironically that those with him have been considering moving him out but I’m considering Foden in a move to 4-5-1.

Cresswell looks like the season long pick for me tbh. He only has 15 fixtures versus Targett's 17, but at least all his are locked in with proper dates and nicely spaced out on the whole. Aston Villa have 3 games not scheduled plus another against City on FA Cup semi final weekend which will probably move. Those 3 or 4 games will come thick and fast at the end of the season. I might get him in then but not now. I don't know much about Targett, but I know Cresswell has been taking corners for West Ham and is mush less likely to be rotated than some of these other cheap defs so for now he is the one I am going for I think.

Hmm, that's a compelling argument which is now making me change my mind again.

Will stick with James in 3 and need to do something funky with my Eggs team.

The answer was Lowton then was it? Didn't even appear as option a), b) or c) on my multiple choice.

Wishing I had gone for Targett now tbh. Even when Villa play badly they manage to keep clean sheets.

I decided to go for Targett to eke out a little more financial flexibility going forwards, so happy with at least one clean sheet before he probably takes his turn to go on the crocks list (should that be called the crockery?!).

I'm sticking with James on Monday. But still obviously feeling worried didn't go with Targett atm.

I'm thinking Lowton now. Gives me £1m to play with moving forward which could be Son to Vardy this weekend if it looks like Spurs slump is continuing...

Oh why did you say that? That is an excellent plan and maybe just what I needed. Massive indecision setting in now.

In fact, this is genius @Mings, thanks a lot. Allows me to go three upfront and I'd rather go offensive against my chasers (who are closing in). I'm in! :D

But I am thinking of switching Dier to Lowton on Wednesday to give me extra funds.

I'd be doing that if I had the spare transfers to tinker. Who'd have thought a 2.4m Jose defender would be bad value....

Justin to James tonight (sorry, good mates of mine on first name terms and all that but just can't remember their surnames)

You change your mind like the wind! Fair enough though.

I am going for it with 3 at the back and 2 city already. He who dares Rodney (and gets changeable advice)... ;)
