TFF chit chat 11th, 12th and 13th July
Saturday 11th July
Norwich City 12:30 West Ham United
Two 12:30 games to kick off this weekend’s matches, the first of which is a relegation clash between bottom club Norwich and West Ham who suffered a set-back against Burnley on Wednesday evening. The Hammers are now only 3 points clear of the drop zone but time is running out for the chasing pack. Norwich were ahead against Watford, a similar calibre team to West Ham, but wound up losing and relegation will be confirmed with a loss today.
Watford 12:30 Newcastle United
Speaking of Watford… The Hornets are in action in the other 12:30 kick-off and they welcome a Newcastle side who were thrashed 5-nil by Man City in midweek to Vicarage Road. Watford will be hoping to build on the Norwich victory and a mid-table Newcastle are probably one of the opposition you would hope to play at this stage of the season. Is St Maximin still injured for the Magpies?
Liverpool 15:00 Burnley
Champions Liverpool take on Burnley in the sole 3pm game. The Reds put in a good performance against Brighton on Wednesday, but Burnley are a different kettle of fish to the Seagulls. Dyche has been doing a good job on limited resources and Burnley still have an outside chance of a European place – a win today would see them level on points with Wolves.
Sheffield United 17:30 Chelsea
Sheffield United in 7th versus 4th place Chelsea is the early Saturday evening kick-off. Sheff Utd had a shaky start to the restart but have picked up a few good results recently. Chelsea have only had the one defeat in June/July – a surprise result against West Ham. Giroud’s name keeps appearing on the scoresheet and Will.i.an has also been in the points recently.
Brighton & Hove Albion 20:00 Manchester City
The late game takes place at the Am Ex and features Brighton against Man City. The Seagulls lost to Liverpool in midweek and Man City bounced back after Southampton to beat Newcastle by 5 to nothing on Wednesday, but Pep rotated heavily over the previous side. Brighton are probably now safe from relegation and City are pretty much guaranteed 2nd, but will they be allowed to take their place in Europe next season? Guessing Brighton’s Lamptey will be a good value pick.
Sunday 12th July
Wolverhampton Wanderers 12:00 Everton
The midday fixture is Wolves versus the Toffees at Molineux. Wolves suffered a defeat against the Blades last time out, their second loss in a row, which has put a dent in their European ambitions. Everton last played out a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening against Southampton and they now have very little to play for this season.
Aston Villa 14:15 Crystal Palace
The 2:15pm game is the not-so-mighty Villa against a Palace side who are coming into the match off the back of a 4-game losing streak. Could this be a game that Aston Villa might win? sure not! Villa were in losing action against Man U on Thursday so the players will be less rested than the CP side who play on Tuesday night, when Ben Techie actually scored.
Tottenham Hotspur 16:30 Arsenal
The North London derby is taking place at 4:30pm this Sunday. Spurs played out a dull 0-0 draw against Bournemouth on Thursday evening so this might give Jose an excuse to rotate his squad. Harry is guaranteed to play and will be looking to blow the Gunners doors off. For Arsenal, Aubameyang has rediscovered his shooting shoes recently and will be hoping to win the Premier League golden boot award. Saka is another cheap pick.
AFC Bournemouth 19:00 Leicester City
Sunday’s late game is Bournemouth v Leicester. Bournemouth are on a bad run but got a point against Spurs, unfortunately relegation for Eddie Howe’s side is a firm possibility. Leicester have drawn too many games recently but their European dreams are still alive. Vardy has been finding the back of the net of late and will relish the change to go up against a poor Bournemouth defence.
Monday 13th July
Manchester United 20:00 Southampton
And finally, the Monday night fixture sees Southampton travelling to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United. Both teams were in Thursday night action, Southampton played out a 1-1 draw with Everton, Ings scoring yet again. United ran out 3-0 winners against Villa with goals from Fernandes, Greenwood and Pogba. Ole says Greenwood is undroppable at the moment so could be a shrewd cheapo investment for the run-in.

Re: TFF chit chat 11th, 12th and 13th July
Norwich could be down by this time tomorrow. Defeat and they are gone, a draw and they are down if Watford get a point in their concurrent game.
Hadn't noticed but Man City have now guaranteed a top 4 finish (CL if ban overturned). Chelsea, Leicester and Man U can each individually overhaul them but not all 3 together as Leicester have yet to play United.
The theoretical chances of getting up to 5th still exist for those in 6th to 10th but could easily be (all but) over at the weekend with the wrong results. I think 6th and 7th could still be EL places (if City don't get their ban overturned and Arsenal don't win the Cup) so they should be fighting hard - but evidence/form says none of them give a stuff.
Liverpool need 3 wins out of 4 for a points record.
Golden Boot Race
1. Jamie Vardy 22
2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang 20
3. Danny Ings 19
3. Mohamed Salah 19
5. Sadio Mané 16
Golden Gloves Race
1. Nick Pope 14
2. Alisson 13
2. Ederson 13
4. Dean Henderson 12
4. Kasper Schmeichel 12
6. David de Gea 11
6. Rui Patrício 11

I did say in my midweek write up that Antonio deserves a special mention. He's been v good since the restart and I have a soft spot for him as he is ex-Reading. I put him in both of my FPL drafts this week so am happy. And picked him in Goalscorers!

Sorry to make things worse Spiny, but .... I have Sterling in 3/5 teams and had money on him getting a hat-trick and on City winning 4-0 or 5-0
