winning team

Post by Frosty Casino »

Live Mix was a late entry on Sunday 12th August, with only three games the selection was restricted to these teams, because it was a late entry so I forgot to enter it in the FISO league.

The starting 11 was
Alisson, Van Dyke, Robertson, Alexander Trent, Gomez, Mahrez, Sterling, Redmond, Salah, Aguero, So ten players from city and Liverpool.

The team slipped away into oblivion hitting 59,532 position but recovered very nicely and was in the top 1000 in December and ZERO transfers used. I realized that this was a very strong position and took the view that I would only concentrate on the one team.

I made my first transfer on 5th December when Aguero was injured

Aguero out, Aubameyang in, then Gomez injury so swapped for Matip on 8th December who got injured in that game but I kept him in a couple of games until realised he wasn’t coming back.

3RD transfer was on 15th December when I swapped Mahrez for F Anderson

4th 16th December Transfer was to take Matip back out and Alonso in

5th 23rd December Transfer was to take Aubameyang back out after a brace and bring in Kane as I thought I needed him with the run of games.

Christmas Eve my team sat in 929th place 134 points from the top

Boxing day 1047th Place and 139 back

29th December 698 back 136 back

6th Transfer was 30th December - Sane out and Pogba in, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had them playing well and he go a brace straight away.

30th December 468 place and 113 back

3rd January in 600th place and 117 back

7th Transfer 4th January FA Cup, I took Sterling out for Heung m Son because of the easy games Tottenham had. They won 7 nil!

In previous years I have had teams in good positions fall away badly due to FA Cup so I took a view to use some of my transfer advantage to catch up.

On 5th January I was 295 place 98 back

8th – 10th transfers on 6th January FA Cup – So Son lasted one game and sterling was back, Alonso out for Stones, and Pogpa out for De Bryne.

6th January 187 place and 83 back

11th Transfer - Stones lasted one game and was removed the following day (7th January) for Jimenez

7th January 149 place and only 76 behind

12th Transfer - Aguero was coming back from injury and I just can’t play without him so on 14th January Kane out for Aguero.

14th Jan now 141 place 74 back

19th January 112th place and only 70 back

13th to 16th Transfers used on 20th January all due to the run of games and Liverpool out of the cup - Alexander-Arnold, T out Laporte, A in, Van Dijk, V out Walker, K in Redmond, N out Gundogan, I in. Salah, M out Sane, L back in.

20th Jan Jumped to 38th Place and only 57 back

26th January 24th Place only 40 behind

17th 27th January Transfer De Bruyne injury out Alonso back in for FA Cup game ( Bruyne injury in FA cup when City won 5 nil).

27th January 19th Place and 39 back

18th Transfer on 29th January, Gundogan not playing so took him out for Pogpa

16 place 26 back

19th Transfer on 30th January as Liverpool had a series of games and Man City had arsenal so Aguero wouldn’t get too many points with Liverpool’s 3 games surely, so Salah in – Of course Aguero got a hat trick and I missed it!!

30th January 14th Place 27 back

4th February 35th place 57 back

20th transfer on 5th February was Alonso out (he was no longer being allowed to push forwards) Doherty in, so cheap, in FA cup and assists and goals.

5th February 29th place and 57 behind

21st Transfer to rectify my mistake 6th February (so two transfers used to lose points) Salah out Aguero back in (thank goodness I did it even against Chelsea he scores another hat trick). Lesson here for people, never be afraid to admit when you got it wrong and correct the error. However, the next few transfers were all mistakes

6th February 27th place 24 back

10th February 16th Place 38 back

22nd & 23rd on 11th February the Monday night game and FA Cup next Robertson and Anderson out, Jota and Moutinho in so 4 Wolves players.

11th February 16th place 37 back

24th Transfer Aguero injury again so 16th February Jesus in, then they say Aguero will be back for premier game. So

16th February 6th Place and 31 back ENABLE now in the lead.

25th Transfer Jesus out straight away (17th February) and Boly in, now 5 Wolves players!

17th February 5th place 30 back

26th Transfer the next day 18th February (all FA Cup still) Walker out and Rashford in

So Jota not playing after I put him in, total waste of transfer

18th February 3rd Place 15 behind

23rd February 4th place 12 back

27th Transfer Jota out on 24th February and Robertson back in (in hindsight I was luck Jota got rested two games in a ow or I wouldn’t have got Robertson back in play)

24th February 2nd place an 3 behind

26th 2nd place and 1 behind

28th & 29th Transfers on 27th February Laport and Moutinho out and Alexander Arnold and Aguero back in.

27th February In the lead now 2 ahead

30th and 31st transfers 3rd March Boly and Rashford out Van Dyke and Mane back in.

Had a break from transfers but had been wishing I had City keeper as he plays FA Cup games and even getting assists so

3rd March 12 points ahead

32nd Transfer Alisson out and E Moraes in on 30th March

Man Utd now looking poor - so

33rd and 34th Transfer on 3rd April Pogpa out (scored a brace in his next game), Laport back in. I also swapped Aguero for Jesus again as reported injured.

35th and 36th Transfers on 6th April another mistake (both mistakes) taking Van Dyke out for Walker, Mane out for B Silva

37th Transfer Aguero back from injury Jesus out.

I kept hold of Sane since 20th January and he was hardly playing! Very poor move so in the end took him out

38th Transfer 21st April Mane back in as he was scoring for fun (actually tossed a coin for Salah or Mane), Sane out. (as it turned out would have made no difference if I kept Mane in till the end but taking him out with one game to go meant Salah would have been 11 points more)

My plan changed when Man City’s game on penultimate weekend went from the first game to last game of the weekend. Use the last two transfers to take advantage of this. However, I was 21 points ahead with Hazard playing on the Sunday and was talked into dropping Mane for Hazard as my 39th Transfer on 5th May. All the chasing pack had Hazard.

So the Monday night game came and I couldn’t decide between Kompany and Gundogan for Doherty. I was 23 points ahead so - Then I simply decided to wait and see what my opponents did as leaving it alone would allow for De Bryne, Kompany, Gundogan or D Silva (for any of the other players except Doherty). Well as it happened ENABLE bought in Kompany who scored and clean sheet, so only 12 back. This was either a very sensible move or the stupid move that cost me the competition.

LAST Transfer was to cover him off and bought in Kompany for Doherty, they scored the same so opponent will not know I have Kompany and only 7 points in it.

The Final team is

E Moraes

K Walker

V Kompany

A Laport

A Robertson

Trent Alexander Arnold

B Silva

R Sterling

E Hazard

S Aguero

JR imenez

So one player difference to second place and B Silva outscored his Deulofeu by 6 so won by 13

Hi Frosty - congratulations on your win.

Do you have a weekly breakdown of your score throughout the season? I can work out a rough guide from what you have posted above but if you do have it I could use it for next years 'Graph' thread as a guide.

Many congrats Frosty. To win the top prize is hard enough but to win twice is unbelievable. You are now on for the hat trick.

Many thanks for the team review. Really enjoyed reading it.

Utterly amazing performance Frosty. No transfers used in December! Just one thing, you've only named ten players in yout starting XI, could you fill in the blank please. Also as a matter of interest where did your wining team end up in the Starting XI league?

At the start of every season, we all dream that the cards will fall our way and we’ll get a chance to challenge for the big one. You’ve won it twice! Image

Well played Frosty. For a while in April you me and the 'Enable' Chap were battling it out for top 3 place before you hit the top and never looked back. I basically didn't bank on Man City keeping so many clean sheets in their run in. Finished in 9th and £39900 less than you!!!!!! Well done again mate.

It’s interesting that you considered the Aguero hat trick “miss” a mistake that needed correcting when his next game was Chelsea. I had done exactly the same move taking LFCs easy fixtures against Aguero’s tougher ones and missed both. I considered this just unlucky as when he then came in afterwards, he hardly set the world alight. It’s these timings that consistently give me FF headaches/nightmares. Not got his stats to hand to back up this post hat trick lack of big points feeling.

I’m not sure I’ll be going with Aguero next season as I think he’s another year older and Jesus will take more game time. I’m thinking there could be better value in the mid range.

It really is dumb that the Starting XI league doesn't cover late entries, especially when there is an odd Friday night game (was it Leicester v someone? Easily get 11 not involved).

My only teams entered on time were due to superleague rules or the need for me to set up a league. No excuse (except server fears) for entering on time otherwise.

Ditto. I had manoeuvred myself into the top 300 by having a 4-5-1 with 'alternative' strikers Aubameyang or Jimenez and them missed all six Aguero goals in weeks 26 and 27 which, basically kruppered my season. Sigh.

Isn't the point that all starting XI are constructed with exactly the same information before the first game. Starting late means you want more info so can see why they do it that way.
