Christmas Transfer Poll

By my calculations, with a 41 week TFF season and being halfway through Week 20, we must be at the halfway point of the season, so everyone must have used half of their transfers, or maybe not.

How about a little Christmas poll to see whether your transfer supply has been subject to tortoise or hare tendencies.

My best team has 26 left. All of my teams are between 27 and 20.

Single entry and have 18 left ... In top 1000, so doing ok but made some stupid decisions early on.

We've only just past half way in the league games, and have loads of rounds of the cup left, so I think you should have a fair bit more than half your transfers remaining ideally.

28 left with my single entrant team. I'm probably doing one tomorrow, but plan no others until after the FA cup games, when the tortoise will be fitted with nitrous for the run in.

Was going well and frugally till November then a number of rash decisions depleted me more than I liked but still have 22 left for the New Year.

I think the vast majority of mine were used in the first fortnight.

lol, glad to hear we all feel we have wasted a few a long the way. It's not just me. Single entry, 22 left, which I am ok with. Less than 30 pts off top spot and my team is doing ok (apart from my one remaining City player).

24-31 in my season long teams.

Too many (31) in my best team which is why it has only just got into top 1000. Not many less than all of our FISO 2019 teams which awake from hibernation after this weekend with a full 40 to burn. Anybody forgotten??

1180 50th 19 transfers left but feel I have better chances with

1131 299th 25 transfers left
1128 334th 27 transfers left

Hoping at least 1 can get me to a decent finishing position

Transfers left means nothing in isolation... surely?
If you've 30 transfers but are 150 points behind someone with 20 left, that's an awful lot of successful transfers required to catch them.

You also have to factor in your original player potentially outscoring the replacement, or just picking a duffer.

For those tortoises who never splurged on the recent multitude of flanges, what are you waiting for ??

No reason why this couldn't win it. Reduced transfers focuses your attention on not wasting them.

That has limited truth ATM, but it is certainly an increasingly important factor as the season nears the end. Having say 5 transfers left when there are say 8 rounds of Premiership games left plus the remaining key Cup games really focuses the mind. Anyone who near the culmination of the season is in with a chance of winning a five figure prize may well find themselves agonising over the use of their last transfer even if they are normally cavalier with their transfers.

Yup there's little point on focusing on transfers in isolation. Currently the pro rata number of remaining transfers is approximately 21. It's probable that the average number of transfers of the top 100 is slightly below this as there are still a smattering of teams hanging on which were either aimed at an earlier monthly or at a hare type comp. I doubt, and certainly hope, that there aren't more than a couple of top hundred teams with 30 or more transfers remaining. As regards teams which are currently well off the pace, say over 100 pts off the 100th placed team, it's probably pretty irrelevant how many transfers they have left as far as the main comp is concerned.

Very hard to know how easy it might be to make significant late inroads with tortoiseish teams. Last year it seemed really difficult when many 3-0 4-0 4-1 etc in March /April / May became 2-0 or even 2-1’s with players being rested. Doesn’t necessarily mean it will be the same this year though and think in previous years it was more possible to make a late dash for glory. That said I suspect it unlikely the winner would come from outside the current top 1000 or so even though the leaderboard is more bunched this year - be interesting to know what position last few winners were at this stage. I suppose one could check the old ‘how I won it threads’.

I've read few of the 'how i won' threads, but there is not much in the way of transfers used/remaining at this stage.
I know the transfer count has changed several times recently also.

FA Cup replays being scrapped from round 5 will also significantly reduce the 3-0 opportunities.

My head hurts :)

Fingers crossed you are spot on with this. I can't remember historically what month the hares tend to fall away, but know there are several within the top 100 at present. One day though ... it is not inconceivable that they could hold on.
