Technology in football

Post by trampie »

Will the big teams and the big countries ever go for technology in football ?

The Englands, Germanys, Italys, Spains, Brazils, Argentinas etc would stand to lose out, the same in club football will your Man Us, Liverpools, Reals, Milans and Bayerns go for it as they will lose out.

Everybody that follows the game knows the big teams get the majority of wrong decisions go in their favour, some do go against them but most go for them.

The big teams do most of the attacking, so goaline technology is an advantage for them, but reviewing goals/disallowed goals and pens/turned down pens would take away an edge they have enjoyed over many years, will they vote for that ?

Sepp has spoken .. done deal. One challenge per half to start with will make the games more interesting and not detract too much from the flow. Your leading teams theory a bit of a red herring here surely :)

How many threads do we need on this? Is Del Horno injured?*

*that particular reference might be lost on those of you who weren't here in 2005 or so...

How long before UEFA supremo Michel Platini says 'never on my watch'? He's already stopped goal line technology seeing the light of day in UEFA competitions such as the Champions League because it can't be replicated at all levels of football.

If this gets passed by FIFA you can be sure that our 'president in waiting' rejects it and keeps the European rules true to their 19th century origins.

(copied from another thread)

Apparently he said he can't justify the cost for the small gains (paraphrasing but words to that effect)

That'll mean there's about zero chance of reviews being in any UEFA competition like the Euro's or the Champions League while Platini's in charge.

I am curious to know exactly which type of incidents will be challengeable.
Handballs are not always clear cut even with multiple angle replays.
Foul challenges will always be open to interpretation, look at how that Djorou/Sterling tackle drew differing opinions last week.
The one challenge per half could also be open to misuse.
Last minute of the game, its all square, the ball is kicked into touch after a goalmouth scramble and a quick throw in is attempted to catch out the other side who are slow getting back.... if they still have their challenge left you know what will happen.

Its a nightmare scenario! No need to change a thing, sometimes you get the call and sometimes you don't. Is it not bad enough that know there are authorized effing water breaks that slow the game down?!?!? Pretty soon they will just take every opportunity they can to stop the game for more ads and money. I can't even believe this is seriously being considered! Of course I never thought I would see the day when there would be water breaks either. :x :x :x
