Had to shell out £3 something for a 6 pack of Heinz, which isn't too bad i guess.

It's 15p cheaper per single tin of Heinz - and for an extra 5g more. But I did note at teatime that mini-me was none too chuffed at having his regular Heinz replaced.Branston Beans In Tomato Sauce 420g
4 for 89p - valid from 04/01/2010 until 19/01/2010
I'll never tire of this thread.

Re: Baked bean wars
See, they'll be giving them away next cos they know they just don't compare to Heinz.
The only way to shift them is to appeal to your inner pike. Just go to Lidl and be done with it

The taste difference is in no way reflective of the price difference; unlike, say, mutton & lamb.murf wrote:See, they'll be giving them away next cos they know they just don't compare to Heinz.

These are suprisingly tasty. Kids love them. I wouldn't have the 'blue stripe' version though, they are awful!

Re: Baked bean wars
Pleased to be able to report Branston Beans 4 X 410G @ £1.57 are on BOGOF , so 78.5p a pack or less than 20p a tin.

Re: Baked bean wars
Branston are very good, as are Sainsbury's basics, and HP.
Heinz are certainly not what they were.
I was pondering something similar in the supermarket the other day, and how some things are not all the same:
Brown Sauce has to be HP,
Piccallili has to be Heinz
Salad Cream has to be Heinz
Tomato Ketchup don't really eat it so anything will do
Mayonnaise Hellmans
Heinz are certainly not what they were.

Thanks for alerting us, Knulpuk - I've been peeved at the lack of decent promotions on Branston for a while now.
For any FISOers new to this thread, enjoy it in full, then go out, buy Branstons and then trump away at your leisure.

Yet all supermarket own brands are made in the same factories at the brand labels.
It is all in your head that they taste different from the brand names.

Not true: Heinz are waterier than even Sainsbury's basic and obvious Branston. (Branston's could be straight half price in Sainsbury's v soon.)

Partially true, if a bit misleading.Achiles74 wrote:Yet all supermarket own brands are made in the same factories at the brand labels.

Premier Foods make supermarket and budget brands alongside their Branston Beans. Different lines and different recipes though.
There's no real reason why a branded can should be better than a private label can, esp now that the gap in the concentration of the ingredients has narrowed. They do taste different - whether they're better or worse is just personal taste.

Re: Baked bean wars
It's the kind of weather to eat outside. So, it must be beans with merguez (Which is the Morrocans excuse for a sausage made with mutton and beef) Us Bretons have decided to use pork instead. Going down to the local Bio farm to start off an evening by the fire, naturally without charcoal, all cooked on local wood. Sounds posh but it was considered poor, just twenty years ago.
Oh, musn't forget the beer, before they try loading me with Lambig.
Just as a matter of respect, they scrap over English baked beans here. It's considered a delicacy. That is no lie.

Heinz Five Beanz are good and being 5 different varieties, a half tin serving constitutes your entire five a day. Have them with chips and you are already one in the bag for tomorrow!
