Re: Beer Advent Calendar!!
Finally caught up with my calendar. So far have got:
Belhaven Craft Pilsner
Gold Muddler
Bombardier
Young's Light Ale
Sticky Toffee Pudding Ale
All to be enjoyed on a Friday and Saturday soon although I have my doubts about the pudding ale and I'm not really a lager person.
All good fun though.

Re: Beer Advent Calendar!!
Looking foward to my dessert beer tonight!
Makes a change to have something a bit different (what this is all about?) and just a small bottle rather than the very very small bottles. Not expecting to give it over 6 but the truth will be in the tasting.....

Sticky toffee pudding ale - get the impression this will be like marmite - you will love it or hate it.
I found it a interesting and satisfying beer.toffee and caramel hints.unusual and worth a try. 6.9/10

Re: Beer Advent Calendar!!
Day 5 - Sticky Toffee Pudding - Lovely but couldn't drink loads - in fact this serving is prob the right amount for this beer - I have had this bottled beer several times previously - not quite cold enough today - but that was my fault. Didn't keep head for more than a couple of mins but good taste - enjoyable 7,5/10
I had to edit to revise my score up from 7 after giving 7s to beers I tried afterwards but I didn't enjoy as much.

Re: Beer Advent Calendar!!
Can’t remember the make, but Tesco stock a Banana Bread beer which I really like, makes a nice change and a decent balance of flavour.

Re: Beer Advent Calendar!!
I'll give that Sticky Toffee Pudding beer an 8. Wouldn't want a session on it but was quite pleasant as a one off. A tactic of "Stick some caramelly syrup type stuff in a beer" should scare every right minded person but it worked. It really did. Very pleasant distinct flavour staying comfortably the right side of sickly vile undrinkable gunge.

Marstons Resolution behind door number 6. Odd that I've never heard of it before as it's Marstons.

Re: Beer Advent Calendar!!
I decided to take a leaf out of Spinynorman's book and save up a few days worth then binge drink them. So that'll be a couple of pints then.
So alcohol free day Wed and Thurs and I've got a brewery trip tomorrow night (Maxim Brewery) to celebrate its 10th Birthday.
Not keen on Hobgoblin so glad its a small one - but love Hobgoblin gold - which I don't think is included.
Keep your scores coming - its interesting to see what people think.
Has anyone else noticed the direct correlation between being in top 10 of FISO Goals to drinking beers in this box? (unless your username begins with j)

Re: Beer Advent Calendar!!
Day 6 - Resolution - All a bit dull and unexciting. Just 6/10
Day 7 - Hobgoblin - A lot more like it in terms of interest, slightly chocolatey and syrupy but not as much as claimed and left a slightly unpleasant aftertaste with no hint of mouldy turnips. For a full on beer I'd prefer the Bombardier and to distinguish the 2 I am going to give my first half mark. Not to this - it gets a solid 7/10 - but I'll up the Bombadier to 7.5
Best so far (Week 1):
Sticky Toffee Pudding 8 (just the winner/leader!)
Young's Light Ale 8
Bombadier 7.5
Hobgoblin 7
Gold Fuddler 7
Resolution 6
Belhaven Pilsner 5

Marstons Resolution - nice refreshing crisp taste 7/10
Why don't Marstons sell their bottled beer in their pubs?

Re: Beer Advent Calendar!!
Really? I thought it was very dull. I'd drunk 2/3 of it without even thinking about it. Remembered to 'taste' the last of it and it was very nondescript. 6/10.jobmeister wrote:Youngs Ram Rod my favourite so far so gets a high of 8.4/10.

Re: Beer Advent Calendar!!
Quiver. Looked like a bottle of cider but promised a golden beer smelling of mown grass. Once poured it looked like a murky rough scrumpy and smelt like scrumpy too. Despite that it definitely tasted like an ale and was fairly nice and flavoursome (not apple or grass flavoured thankfully) without being great. Just about 7/10.Spinynorman wrote:Never heard of Quiver Bitter either which is all good.
