Re: Everton 2012/13 General Chat & Starting X1 Thread
There's certainly a lot of confusion re. this alleged clause. Some things I've read recently from people either supposedly ITK or 2nd hand from other credible sources:
*The clause did exist but was written out in the new contract Fellaini signed at the end of 2011.
*The release clause was £22m but was increased in negotiations in the last contract.
*The release clause can only be triggered by a club in the Champions League, ruling out the rumours of Chelsea (for now), and meaning they'd have to get top four, before they could make a move in the summer.
All I do know is, it's pretty much all guesswork. Even the BBC's opening lines seem pretty wafer thin in credibility and truth, and full of contradictions:
"Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini has a buyout clause in his contract that could lead to him leaving the Goodison Park club."
"The club has refused to comment on reports that the midfielder has a £22m release clause in his contract."
"The Merseysiders insist they never divulge confidential arrangements of player contracts."
"However, there is a fee that could trigger a deal - but it is believed to be higher than £22m."
On a side note, I'd be pretty annoyed if we only made a £7m profit on him, given his continued development over the last few years and his ever increasing reputation. If we eventually lost him to a bidding war, I'd expect a much larger fee would be needed before we would ever be tempted to part company.

I remember the day Everton bought Fellaini, and I'm remember thinking what a ridiculous and unrealistic fee they had paid.

'Arry doesn't talk about other teams' players, surely?
EDIT - From the Telegraph:
Redknapp said: "I was asked by one agent if I wanted to sign Sneijder. Of course I do. However, he's on about £200,000 a week and now he wants to join QPR?
"I won't name the agent, but let's just say I think a deal is unlikely."
So it wasn't Sneijder's agent, then?

Had he not just torn Everton apart, his Belgian team knocking them out of Europe? I remembered him from that and playing against Liverpool the year before (we won - just). He was good.tedbull wrote:I just remember thinking... "who?"TheTon wrote:I remember the day Everton bought Fellaini, and I'm remember thinking what a ridiculous and unrealistic fee they had paid.

We actually signed him before we played Liege in the Europa. Think it was just a big coincidence that we went on to draw them. He wasn't eligible to play for us against them, presumably as he'd already played in an earlier qualifier(?) For a time, with players like Dalmat, Defour, Witsel and Mbokani, they were a decent little side.

Bizarre transfer of the day:
Reading have signed Crawley midfielder Hope Akpan on a three-and-a-half-year contract for an undisclosed fee.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/20959076" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;?
Deemed not good enough at Everton (he was one of the kids given a run out against BATE Borisov circa 2007/8) ,didn't seem to set the world alight on loan at Hull, and I wasn't aware he was even pulling up trees at Crawley Town. A fairly quick climb back up to the top tier for the lad.
It certainly explains the strange Anichebe to Reading rumours during the Cheltenham match. The journos obviously getting their Everton kids mixed up!

Liverpool games were 2008. 0-0 in Belgium (Reina saved a pen, Fellaini header allegedly crossed the line, we were outplayed) and then 0-0 til a Kuyt goal after 118 minutes at Anfield sneaked us into CL groups.moonlightdribbler wrote:We actually signed him before we played Liege in the Europa. When we signed Fellaini, a red mate raved about Fellaini (I didn't have much of a clue who he was!) from his performances against them, so i was optimistic.
We were our own worst enemies in our 2 legs against them. They were more than decent, but I do remember their keeper being decidedly dodgy. I think it's time to retire when Segundo Castillo puts one past you!

Didn't he get into trouble for a naughty (racist?) tweet? Seem to remember he luckily escaped punishment when his excuse was that his little brother or cousin had logged in as him and posted something. That old chestnut!

Fellaini has been in more of my TFF teams over the years than perhaps he should have, based partly on those games. Took him yonks to catch fire last season (think I bought him and RVP as my pre-season picks in the Eggcup. Both started crap and then became brilliant so everyone else bought them and I gained nought for being ahead of my time) so he wasn't in many of mine this season - great pick now though.moonlightdribbler wrote:murf wrote: Liverpool games were 2008. 0-0 in Belgium (Reina saved a pen, Fellaini header allegedly crossed the line, we were outplayed) and then 0-0 til a Kuyt goal after 118 minutes at Anfield sneaked us into CL groups.

I wouldn't assume it was anything that bad. One of the Liverpool youngsters was done by the FA for tweeting that something "looks a bit gay".moonlightdribbler wrote:http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/footbal ... 637253.stm

If you do a search, the actual tweet is quoted in an article by the Daily Mail (well it would be them, wouldn't it?). I'd say it was a tad less innocent than the LFC kid's one. Not that this is a competition!murf wrote:I wouldn't assume it was anything that bad. Ross Barkley has joined Leeds United on loan.
The midfielder links up with the Championship side for an initial one-month stint.
Earlier this season Barkley enjoyed a successful two-month spell at Sheffield Wednesday, playing 13 times and scoring four goals.

starting to feel like one of those teenage girls you see on yankee films it prom night, everybody, you know has a date, but its getting late and nobody has asked you, and half the fellas you fancy are now spoken for, everbody is chatting about the big day, and we have nothing but hope that someone in desperation with no one else on the horizion, might just knock on the door and make our day, everton and transfer windows, not much fun really till they're over
Im hoping we can beat QPR to the signing of M'Vila

Tonight showed how short we are and why the teams above are not worried about us getting 4th...
Disappointing to see Coleman going off again as well....just as Mirallas comes comes back (though he looked v rusty...)
the positive ...big vic, looks like he may have turned a corner and got the fans on his side as well....aaahhhh the big fella just wants to be loved

Moyes quoted as saying if he was a betting man, he'd back himself to bring in at least one new face, and yesterday the Echo's Everton journo reckoned (via twitter) it was quite likely we'd bring in a centre mid and a striker.....
That centre mid could well be Leroy Fer from FC Twente, as lots of stories saying it's soon to be a done deal for around 10m euros. Fingers crossed we actually buy someone!

He probably deserves a new nickname:

We need to know the cause of his mistake if we are to suggest an appropriate name.
1. That he didn't know where his girlfriend lived
2. That he failed to appreciate that a flat wasn't the best place for a horse to sleep
3. That he secretly preferred the horse to his girlfriend.

Why couldn't she have just kept it in stables like a lot of horse owners? He'd have been paying!
