Beat Morecombe 4-1 at weekend. Mixture of youth and 1st team. Leon Osman skipper and instrumental in midfield.
Jack Rodwell returned, and scored. Velios and Anichebe also amoungst the goals.
Most key players didn't feature.

Tim Cahill for one million pounds! Seriously!?!?! I know he had a rough season but there was no club in the Prem that would pay two for him. I'm sorry but that just amazes me, fairly certain any of the three promoted clubs could've used him for that price.

I'm going to think the best and assume that the club have smoothed his passage to a fresh challenge.

Would be surprised if your not correct, terrific player/representative for club, sadly these days they are so rare. If we are right good on Everton for making it possible, demonstrating that loyalty goes both ways.tedbull wrote:I'm going to think the best and assume that the club have smoothed his passage to a fresh challenge.

God knows!
If true, I think Fenerbache are a bit cheeky if they think they can get last year's player of the season for 4.5-5m. Turning into yet another bizarre summer...

It did strike me as odd, which is why I asked. 11.5% TFF sides must have him in, and I had him pencilled into quite a few of my as yet unentered sides.

Anyone seen Rodwell in the friendlies? Wondering how he looks as he is on my shortlist to fill a much needed sub 5 mil MF in FPL.

Rodwell has started all the PS friendlies - if he's fit I can see him being a real bargain (but a rotation risk). Match reports have been kind to him.
But - with Noble on pens/free kicks there's a cheaper option there - unless you have guns and need two cheap mids. Rodwell is one to watch for sure.
I see Everton's XI lining up like this (nailed on in bold - assuming Pienaar complete's switch):
**************
Howard
Hibbert/Hettinga/Distin - Jagielka - Baines
Osman/Rodwell - Fellaini - Gibson - Pienaar
Naismith
Jelavic
**************
Hibbert has always been honest - RB a spot that's been open for honours for a long time - can see things change there, maybe... (please Moyes!)
Hettinga was very strong last season but as mentioned looks like he could be makeway for Pienaar monies - Distin to fill that gap and nailed on then, if he leaves.

Thanks for the info. I am in need of two "cheapies" for my Mf so was looking at Rodwell and Nolan. Of course if the Pienaar deal flops I will reconsider Rodwell.

Currently half-time in Tony Hibbert's testimonial against AEK Athens. 3-1 to Everton, with a first half hat-trick coming from Steven Naismith. Seems to be operating on the right of midfield.
Still no sign of a Hibbert goal.

Naismith is rapidly shooting to the top of my fantasy picks.
Does anyone have total number of goals Jelavic and Naismith scored while playing together at Rangers?

Not sure if this will include the stats you're looking for, but an interesting write-up all the same:

Thanks, Moyes keep finding these gems, make me pretty fearful that Everton will have a very good season with Jelavic, Naismith and Fellani up front.
But fantasy games have no club loyalties so I will be picking my share of Toffes this season in fantasy games, still have the slow starting issue in my head

Didn't see the game (though I've seen the riot )
I'm guessing Osman played further forward if Naismith was on the right? And did Rodwell go to that position when he came on?
And what happened to Gibson? Off after 20 mins.
The starting side looks like Moyes has his preferred setup - except Jagielka didn't feature at all - is he injured?

Will be interesting to see who plays in the 'Cahill' role- will be Osman, Naismith or Fellaini I guess.
Big Mo did well in that position towards the end of last season, but I prefer to see him in the heart of things in central midfield.
Centre back situation is a bit tricky to call too. Jagielka basically lost his place towards the end of last season- I think Moyes likes Distin because he's left-sided, which gives a better balance. Hard to leave Jags out, but Heitinga was boss last year so how can you leave him out?

Re: Everton 2012/13 General Chat & Starting X1 Thread
I watched the game on a streamed foreign channel, and by the time I'd tuned in I'd already missed a lot. I already knew the starting XI, so as soon as I saw Neville playing central midfield it was obvious that Gibson had got a knock (confirmed). Osman was central midfield with Neville, with Fellaini up supporting Jelavic.tedbull wrote:Didn't see the game (though I've seen the riot )

Where did Rodwell play? Good question! I seemed to remember Rodwell only came on for about the last 10 minutes, and with all the 2nd half changes the game had lost it's rhythm and the team it's shape......I was also still a bit giddy from Hibbert's goal and wasn't fully concentrating!
Yep, seems as though Jagielka is injured, but just hasn't been reported on by the club.
The Malaga game will obviously give us more clues as to what Moyes will start with. Personally, I've always preferred Fellaini in his midfield role. His partnership with Gibson works for him and the team. I can still see Naismith getting the 'Cahill role' in games, with Osman/Coleman getting the nod on the right (until we buy a proper winger!).

Re: Everton 2012/13 General Chat & Starting X1 Thread
Cheers for that. Yes, Malaga really should see the preferred formation.
I agree, Fellaini should be in the guts. He's got the potential to be one of the best around in that position. Why turn him into an awkward forward?
Personally I want to see Rodwell given a go in the advanced midfield/forward role. I reckon it's made for him. That puts Naismith on the right instead of Osman.
But if I had to bet on Moyes' favored side, I'd say you're spot on:
Howard
Neville or Hibbert. Jags. Heitinga. Bainzinho.
Osman. Fellaini. Gibson. Peanuts.
Naismith
Jelly
Osman still worries me, though.

Now i know why Everton always get off to a bad start they only play with 10 men.tedbull wrote:Cheers for that. Yes, Malaga really should see the preferred formation.

Seems to have. I saw it mentioned on a forum that Yobo's agent had tweeted that his transfer (Yobo's) to Fenerbahce was held up because it was Everton who threw Heitinga's name into the mix at the 11th hour, during negotiations. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the Everton boardroom.blahblah wrote:Has talk of him leaving stopped?

I'd go along with that. Always seems too pedestrian and lethargic to really boss the midfield and his partnership with Fellaini didn't seem to suit either of them. And, despite Moyes saying he can see him one day going back to his old central defensive position, I just can't see it happening any time soon (especially as Duffy seems like a real prospect as back-up).
He's a lot more mobile than Cahill, and has a turn of pace that could really hurt defences. Remember that goal against United at Goodison (3-1) when he skinned their defence and slotted past Van Der Sar? I'd love to see more of that!

http://www.evertonfc.com/news/archive/2 ... gibson-out" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; - this could be very detrimental to our start if it carries into GW1. Gibson was the addition to our side that people forget - bossed midfield since Christmas and instilled confidence in Pienaar, Ozzie and Fellaini to get forward.

Rodwell can hit them with both feet and with his size, pace and athleticism could be a nightmare for defenders if he could get a bit more aggression into his game. Remember reading a quote on ToffeeWeb - "Jack Rodwell. Too much Birkdale, not enough Kirkdale"
Saw that both Fellaini and Gibson were out injured against Malaga... that's a big concern.

Feel saddened for you that Rodwell is leaving, the same will happen to us with Agger next week I reckon.
