actually, the midfield could be:
Right mid: Gary O'Neill
Left mid: Stu Downing
Centre mid: Didier Digard
Centre mid: Julio Arca
I forgot that Emnes is playing in the olympics for Holland!

Not Brad Jones in goal? May go for him or Turnbull as my cheap FPL goalie.

Re: Middlesbrough Starting XI - 08/09
Jones was the only Boro player to play the full 90 minutes in their first pre-season friendly. Turnbull wasn't on the bench though, so that probably doesn't tell us anything!

Would prefer Turnbull myself, but I reckon Gareth may tip the nod to Brad Jones (saw him play a few times last season, and he never fills me with confidence )dj_dave_e wrote:Goalkeeper - Ross Turnbull

Assuming they are both fit, I also have a feeling that Alliadiere will start alongside Alves, with Tuncay covering for Emnes on the wing whilst he's away in Beijing.

Tricky one with the goalies.
he played a very young team last night and Jones was in goal.
Might that suggest that Turnbull is actually first choice?

Am I right they are looking to sell Young? If they sell Young who would play. Actually my question is: I really want Huth in my team but the rest of the defence looks like a bag of sh*te - is it or is there some hope of clean sheets?

Are we any closer to knowing who is going to start between the sticks?
Both Turnbull and Jones are a steal at 2m in SDT. Would be useful to get a definate.

Turnbull is the favourite.
And are there any developments on Boro's right back? They've been linked with Hoyte but I don't think the move has been officially completed. If they don't get Hoyte I'm not sure who will be his replacement although whoever the RB is they'll be cheap as chips. It could be the youngster Williams who started in one of their friendlies or McMahon. Williams isn't listed on the site, but if he's in at 4.0/4.5 he could be worth a spot in your squad.

Manager Calls For More Belief
http://www.mfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/Mat ... 98,00.html
BORO must start believing they can compete with the very best after they came close to pulling off a shock at Anfield, says boss Gareth Southgate.
But the manager said his players must also learn to close games down after fighting so hard to get themselves into a winning position before conceding two sickening late goals.
"We've given absolutely everything and in the end a freak goal has got them back into it and we haven't been able to see it through," he said.
"Fatigue at the end has caused us to sink back and try to protect what we had.
"Hopefully what everyone will take from it is tremendous belief. We pushed a top four side away from home right to the end and we deserved to get something from the game in my opinion."

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate:
"I can understand Mido will want to play. He'll be causing me a headache in terms of selection.
"At the start of the season it was easy because he hadn't had pre-season matches but now he is getting up to full fitness and scoring goals. That gives me a problem.
"He has had a big impact from the bench and I think he is pushing hard to get in that starting line-up."

Re: Middlesbrough Starting XI - 08/09
Any clear idea on the Boro back four with Hoyte in?
Presumably Taylor will lose out?
I assume Hoyte - Huth - Wheater - Pogatetz?
Though that has a horribly lumbering quality about it..

hartlepool mail gave a detailed report on his injury and say he wont be back in action till the new year - Mido is looking like a decent option at the moment.1086 wrote:If Tuncay's out for a month with a knee injury, that might mean Mido starts.liverbirdonmychest wrote:any idea, with Mido's start to the season, has he overtaken Tuncay into the starting 11? cheers to anyone with any help.

Alves has not had the best of starts. If Mido hadn't have injured himself yesterday he would have started. Can see the mighty egyptian being our main striker this season!

sorry if going off topic, but have you seen enough of Boro to see why Alves hasn't hit the ground running? Re: Middlesbrough Starting XI - 08/09
Top scorer Mido is expected miss Tuesday night's Carling Cup third-round tie at Manchester United after pulling out of Middlesbrough's 2-0 derby defeat at Sunderland with a groin strain.
The Egyptian has four goals to his credit already this season but had to withdraw from the Wear-Tees Stadium of Light clash just 20 minutes before kick-off after breaking down in the warm-up.
With Tuncay Sanli (knee) sidelined for at least another month, manager Gareth Southgate has the option of pairing Afonso Alves with Jeremie Aliadiere or fit-again Marvin Emnes against United.
Alternatively, he may opt to stick with the 4-5-1 formation he employed at Sunderland. Adam Johnson is battling to be fit after limping out of the derby with an ankle injury.
Teams
Middlesbrough (from): Turnbull, Wheater, Huth, Pogatetz, Taylor, Digard, O'Neil, Aliadiere, Downing, Johnson, Alves, Jones, Hoyte, Riggott, Shawky, Arca, Walker, Craddock.
I'm expecting(and hoping) he starts with Jones in goal.
Turnball has not exactly merited keeping the jersey so far, and Jones did start the season ist choice until injured in the warm up.
