Way-aye:
Kevin Keegan will be without suspended trio Nicky Butt, Alan Smith and Emre for his first game in charge of the black and whites. Emre was shown a straight red card against Stoke on Wednesday and begins a three-match ban against the Trotters. Butt and Smith are serving the last of their two-game suspension and will return for next weekend's FA Cup Fourth Round trip to Arsenal.

African Cup of Nations quartet Geremi, Abdoulaye Faye, Oba Martins and Habib Beye are also missing with the tournament getting underway on Sunday.

The official site:
Mark Viduka has been ruled out having failed to recover from a calf strain while Emre serves the last of his three-game suspension. Joey Barton is likely to be named among United's substitutes and Shola Ameobi (illness) could also figure having sat out the weekend defeat at the same venue.

African Cup of Nations quartet Geremi, Habib Beye, Abdoulaye Faye and Oba Martins are all still away in Ghana.

The official site:
KEVIN Keegan is set to welcome Oba Martins back into his squad with the Nigerian having recovered from a calf injury picked up at the Africa Cup of Nations. But Emre (calf) and Mark Viduka (calf) definitely miss out.

Stephen Carr (hamstring) is still sidelined, but Peter Ramage is on schedule for a return to training next week after more than six months out with cruciate ligament damage. Shay Given (groin) is also missing.

A judge has ruled that Joey Barton won't be allowed in Liverpool to play against Liverpool and Everton!

The official site:
KEVIN Keegan has confirmed that Magpie trio Mark Viduka, Emre and Stephen Carr will not be fit in time to face Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday.

Speaking to Newcastle World TV during his pre-match conference, the Magpie boss explained: "Emre (calf), Mark Viduka (calf) and Stephen Carr (hamstring) won't be ready. Stephen is still a couple of weeks away while we need to work on a programme to get Mark back to full fitness."
[One involving wiring his jaw shut perhaps? ]

The official site:
NEWCASTLE United midfielder Emre has set his sights on a return to training ahead of next weekend's home clash with Fulham. The Turk injured a calf in training nearly four weeks ago and has not figured for the Magpies since the 4-1 defeat at Aston Villa. But, with a return to full training scheduled for next week, the former Inter Milan ace told nufc.co.uk that he has a chance of making the crunch showdown with Roy Hodgson's Cottagers a week on Saturday.

"Everything is good and I'm doing OK," said the 27-year-old. "Birmingham will be too soon but if I return to training next week then maybe the Fulham game is possible, but we'll have to wait and see."

Meanwhile, Mark Viduka returned to training this week and is in with a shout of making his first appearance since early February during Monday night's clash at St.Andrew's. Stephen Carr remains sidelined with a hamstring injury but Peter Ramage hopes to be involved when United's reserves travel to Botlon next Tuesday
.

Also on the official site today:
MARK Viduka is set to return to the Newcastle United squad for Monday's crunch clash at Birmingham City. The 32-year-old last started during the 4-1 FA Cup victory over Stoke City back in January and has appeared just once, as a substitute in the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough last month, for Kevin Keegan. But the Toon gaffer told Newcastle World TV on Friday morning that the Aussie striker is ready to return after five weeks out with a troublesome calf strain.

"Mark is on course to put himself up for selection," explained Keegan. "What we have had to do is build him up because he has not played for a while but he's doing well at the moment day after day for him to recuperate. He had a hard day on Wednesday and we'll have to wait and see, but hopefully yes."
Also, this from a few days ago:
JAMES Milner is in with a shout of making next Monday's crucial trip to Birmingham City after an X-ray revealed there was no break in his foot following a heavy knock at Anfield on Saturday. The 22-year-old was forced off just seconds after Liverpool's opener having accidentally kicked the studs of Reds midfielder Lucas five minutes earlier. And, while Milner did limp away from the stadium aided by crutches, United physio Derek Wright says that the initial prognosis is encouraging.

"James had an X-ray after the match on Saturday and, fortunately, this showed there was no break and no damage to the metatarsal," he explained. "But his foot is badly bruised and he will have a scan in the next 48 hours which will give us a more thorough investigation. We put him on crutches to go home to Newcastle so that there was no weight going on the injury, but he has always been a quick healer in the past and he has the desire to play. And while injuries of this type can keep some players out for a couple of weeks, we are hoping that he will be OK for Birmingham next Monday night."

While there is also good news regarding the fitness of groin victim Shay Given after he travelled to see a specialist in Belgium last week. "Shay has been encouraged by what the specialist told him in Belgium and he is hoping to start his rehab with a bit of light training this week, and we will just have to see how he goes," added Wright.

Minor updates from the official site:
[...]Kevin Keegan will be without James Milner who is facing up to three weeks out with a foot injury [...] while Peter Ramage is back from his cruciate ligament lay-off but is not yet ready for first-team action. Mark Viduka returns from a calf problem and could start his first game since the 4-1 FA Cup victory over Stoke back in January.

The official site:
KEVIN Keegan will go into Saturday's clash against Fulham with the same squad of players which drew at Birmingham City on Monday night. The United boss confirmed on Friday morning that both Emre (calf) and James Milner (foot) could be missing for up to three weeks.

And, speaking at his pre-match press conference, KK explained: "James still has a protective shoe on his foot and will be out for around three weeks. Emre is the same and I think both players could be looking to return for the derby game with Sunderland. Stephen Carr is also about two to three weeks away and Shay Given is out for six weeks. That means I'll have the same squad for Fulham which I did for Birmingham."

The official site:
Kevin Keegan could go with the same squad which won at Spurs on Sunday with no new injury problems to report. Turkish midfielder Emre came through 45 minutes of Monday's reserve team draw with Man United but Saturday's game could come too soon.

Peter Ramage and Lamine Diatta both played 90 minutes for Adam Sadler's second-string but it remains to be seen whether they will be involved against the Royals. Shay Given (groin), Stephen Carr (hamstring) and Claudio Cacapa (groin) are all still sidelined.

The official site:
CENTRE-forward Mark Viduka, the man leading the line in Newcastle United's big revival, is still only 80 percent match-fit, according to manager Kevin Keegan. But the big Aussie is leading a "chalk-cheese-and-chalk" forward line and the United boss said: "Mark Viduka is totally different to Michael [Owen] who is totally different to Oba [Martins], but it works and causes other teams problems.

"I wouldn't say Viduka is as good as he is going to get, for like Michael he needs about eight or nine games, but what he's given is more than good enough for me. I would say he's about 80 percent match-fit. You need games, but he's been terrific for us because he's that focal point on which you can build. It sticks most of the time and he's very important for us."

The official site:
KEVIN Keegan has confirmed that Steven Taylor and Charles N'Zogbia will return to the Newcastle United squad for Saturday's tea-time clash with Portsmouth. Both were missing for last weekend's 3-0 victory over Reading, Taylor because of illness and N'Zogbia as a result of a knee injury picked up playing for France Under-21s.

However, the South Coast trip will come too soon for James Milner (foot) and Stephen Carr (hamstring), although both have a chance of making next weekend's Tyne-Wear derby. Turkish midfielder Emre (ankle) will not be ready for the Sunderland game but could be in contention for West Ham in two weeks time.

The official site:
KEVIN Keegan has hinted that he will go with same starting XI which came away from Fratton Park with a goalless draw last weekend. James Milner is set for a return to training this week following his foot injury but it remains to be seen if he will make the Magpie bench. Stephen Carr (hamstring) is also in contention, but Sunday's game will come too soon for Emre (ankle) and Claudio Cacapa (groin).

The official site:
James Milner will return to the squad which travels to East London and could be the only change to the 16 which were named for last weekend's Tyne-Wear derby victory. Emre (ankle) will have to wait another week before making his comeback, while Stephen Carr (hamstring) and Claudio Cacapa (groin) are also nearing a return.
