Celtic seek Old Firm postponement

Celtic have asked for the Old Firm match on Wednesday to be postponed as a mark of respect following the death of Motherwell captain Phil O'Donnell.
O'Donnell collapsed and died during Saturday's match against Dundee United at Fir Park.

The Scottish Premier League is considering Celtic's request to have the game at Celtic Park postponed.

Motherwell's match against Hibernian and Gretna's game with St Mirren have already been postponed.

Both Gordon Strachan and Rangers manager Walter Smith say if it was up to them the game would not be played.

Rangers have revealed a plan to redevelop Ibrox Stadium in a bold project that could make it the biggest sporting venue in Scotland.
The plans, one of three options being considered by the club, could see the stadium in Glasgow completely rebuilt with a new capacity of 70,000.

Alan Hutton turned down a move to Spurs last week. Tottenham had offered around 9 Million for our right back and about £22k a week basic wage package.

However yesterday Spurs have apparently increased their wages offer to £33k a week.

Rumour has it Alan will stay at Rangers till the summer and then he'll be off to Man United to eventually replace Gary Neville if he can continue his recent good form.

Wherever Alan goes he'll be a big loss at Ibrox.

Rangers' fixture backlog is growing after the Scottish Cup fourth-round tie against East Stirlingshire was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch.

The cup tie will now be played on 23 January, meaning the Old Firm game will have to be moved for a second time.

Rangers play Gretna to-night in the spl and hopefully we can pull 4 points clear of Celtic in the league. If this game goes ahead, then we will have played 20 matches the same as Celtic.

Darcheville has been handed a three-match European ban following his red card against Lyon.
The French striker will miss both legs of the Uefa Cup clash against Panathinaikos next month and should we get through the 1st leg of the next round.

Gretna 1-2 Rangers

Rangers extended their lead at the top of the SPL to four points over rivals Celtic with a hard-fought win over struggling Gretna at Fir Park.
Barry Ferguson volleyed Rangers ahead on the stroke of half-time after Steven Naismith and Chris Burke failed to convert earlier opportunities.
Kenny Deuchar bulleted a superb header to deservedly bring the Black and Whites level just after the restart.
But Daniel Cousin earned victory with a well-taken low shot in the 74th minute.

Rangers: McGregor, Whittaker, Cuellar, Weir, Papac, Burke, Hemdani, Ferguson, Adam, Cousin, Naismith (Darcheville 67). Subs Not Used: Carroll, Boyd, Novo, Broadfoot, Lennon, Furman.
Goals: Ferguson 45, Cousin 74.

The former England international has agreed an 18-month deal and trained with the Blades squad for on Friday, reported BBC Radio Sheffield.

Inverness CT v Rangers (Sun)

Rangers striker Daniel Cousin is travelling to Fulham for signing talks after both clubs agreed a £3m fee.
Fulham had an initial £2m offer for the 30-year-old rejected, but their improved bid was accepted by the Ibrox club on Tuesday afternoon.

Cousin, who signed from Lens for £1.1m last summer, has scored nine goals in 26 appearances for Rangers.

CIS Insurance Cup Semi Final

Rangers 2-0 Hearts

Rangers edged out Hearts in the Hampden Park mud to move into the CIS Insurance Cup final amid controversy over Barry Ferguson's 50th-minute opening goal.

Hearts goalkeeper Steve Banks saved well from Charlie Adam, while Andrius Velicka sent a header against the bar at the other end in an even first half.

Ferguson fired home the winner superbly on the turn, but the Rangers captain had clearly controlled it with his arm.

Jean-Claude Darcheville turned in a Chris Burke cross after 69 minutes.

Subs Not Used: Graeme Smith, Faye, Broadfoot, Boyd.

Booked: Whittaker, Darcheville, Adam, McCulloch.

Goals: Ferguson 50, Darcheville 69.

Scottish Cup

Hibernian 0-0 Rangers

Quite entertaining for a 0-0 where both teams could have scored 3 goals a piece. We also had our goalie Alan McGregor sent off in the 88th minute

Rangers: McGregor, Broadfoot, Cuellar, Weir, Papac, Hemdani (Alexander 88), Ferguson (Boyd 76), Adam, Burke, McCulloch, Naismith (Darcheville 65).
Subs Not Used: Dailly, Fleck.

Sent Off: McGregor (88).

Booked: Broadfoot.

A date for the Rangers v Hibernian Scottish Cup replay is still in the melting pot after the Edinburgh club refused to play it on Wednesday.
The Scottish FA met on Monday to make a decision after the clubs failed to agree on a replay date.

It now depends on Rangers' progress in the Uefa Cup.

Allan McGregor has lost his appeal against the red card he received against Hibernian on Sunday.

Rangers were unable to register a home victory over Panathinaikos in the Uefa Cup last 32, first-leg tie.

Spl Sunday, 24 February

Rangers 4-2 Gretna

Rangers win 9 in a row with a win over the bottom team in the league. I took my son along to this one and was quite surprised how Gretna played. They enjoyed some good possesion at times and if they had played like this more often they may not have been bottom.

Rangers: McGregor, Broadfoot, Cuellar, Weir, Whittaker, Burke, Davis, Ferguson, Naismith, Darcheville (Novo 61), Cousin (Boyd 61). Subs Not Used: Alexander, Dailly, Faye, Furman, Fleck.

Hearts 0-4 Rangers

This game I felt was a potential bananna skin. However to the contary, rangers produced one of there best performances of the season.

Rangers still lead Celtic by 4 points who continue to keep up the pressure in a title race which will probably be decided by the games between each other.

Rangers: McGregor, Broadfoot, Cuellar, Weir, Whittaker, Dailly, Naismith, Ferguson, Davis (Thomson 85), Adam, Darcheville (Novo 46). Subs Not Used: Alexander, Boyd, Cousin, Furman, Lennon.
