Bolton's Stelios Giannakopoulos will miss the start of the season after undergoing a hernia operation.
The Greece international midfielder had the surgery in Athens and is expected to be out for at least a month.

"The problem has been building up for around two years," said the club's medical expert Dr Richard Freeman.

"But we had to get things moving to help the player overcome the discomfort. It has been resolved now and Stelios will feel better for it."

The 33-year-old is now set to miss the season-opener against Newcastle as the Trotters take on the side of former manager Sam Allardyce.

Stelios was signed by Allardyce from Olympiakos on a free transfer in May 2003.

Bolton supporters.

Vaz Te.

Talk to me.

Red hot during the preseason matches. Playing regular so far. Is he a likely starter for the season up front with Anelka? or possibly on the wing or wide of striker in 4-3-3 formation?

Could he be a regular?

As a Bolton fan myself i don't think Vaz Te will start, i reckon he'll be used as a sub initially. He's got the potential, but he's a bit raw and naive yet. When he does well coming on as sub, he'll get his chance.

Could be a threat to Vaz Te maybe??

Bolton manager Sammy Lee has completed the signing of winger Daniel Braaten from Rosenborg for an undisclosed fee.

Braaten, 25, has sealed a three-year deal at the Reebok Stadium, subject to international clearance.

Lee said: "Daniel is another quality signing. I am delighted he has chosen Bolton ahead of other clubs."

Braaten has Champions League experience and Lee believes the Norwegian will bring an extra dimension to the team.

"He is a powerful winger who can play on both flanks," said the Bolton boss.

"Daniel is very direct and likes to take on defenders.

"He will complement the squad and provide excellent service to the forward line."

Just been looking at OFL's predicted line up and they are predicting Cid in placed of Meite?

Who do Bolton fans reckon will start, Cid or Meite?

Vaz was expected to start after banging in 5 pre-season. No Meite is a huge surprise.

WANDERERS' Senegal international midfielder, Abdoulaye Faye, is on the verge of joining Newcastle in a deal believed to be worth around £2 million.

Faye will not feature for Wanderers at Fulham tonight and is expected at St James' Park for a medical.

If the deal goes through he will be the first Bolton player to follow former White's manager, Sam Allardyce to Newcastle.

Defender Steinsson joins Bolton

Bolton have completed the signing of Iceland international Gretar Steinsson from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar for £3.5m.

The 26-year-old right-back - who had an unsuccessful trial with Wanderers five years ago - has signed a three-and-half-year deal.

Megsons lost the plot

Hes taking Bolton where Sanchez wanted to take Fulham and where Hodgson is doing a pretty good job to achieve what Sanchez started.

BOLTON AGREE FEE FOR CAHILL

Bolton have agreed a fee with Aston Villa for defender Gary Cahill.

The fee is understood to be between £4.5million and £5million, and has been accepted after Villa boss Martin O'Neill rejected previous bids from Bolton and Birmingham.

It now appears Cahill, 22, who has just returned from a three-month loan spell at Sheffield United, will be heading to the Reebok Stadium.

Megson said: "We've been negotiating with Villa for two-and-a-half to three weeks now to try to bring Gary to the club.

"We've finally reached the point where we have agreed a transfer with Villa that they are happy with and we've been given permission to talk to Gaz.

"Hopefully we can get it done quickly but we want to make sure it's done right."

Megson is keen to strengthen his defensive options as the Trotters seek to safeguard their Barclays Premier League status.

"He's a young lad, he's a good centre-half and he's got an awful lot of improvement still to come," added Megson.

"He's got pace, quality on the ball and will also score you a few goals during the course of the season."

When i read this i thought it was Tim Cahill 4.5 mio and i thought ok good business

but Gary Cahill ....KIN- WHO??

HE MIGHT BE WORTH 450,000 and thats it..

Megson = Ginger nutter.
