Louis Saha is available for United's FA Cup fifth round clash with Arsenal after coming through a week's training unscathed.

saf: "Louis has trained all week and should be involved... We have strong squad for Saturday, probably the strongest for a while... I don’t think either side will play the team that everyone expects... We’ll make a couple of changes... My view is that with massive games like Arsenal and then Lyon on Wednesday, you have to give a lot of consideration to how you balance out your teams. Hopefully I get it right.”

rested players set to return for lyon.

saf: "I gave them a rest, although Ronaldo had a bit of a tummy upset... I was thinking about resting him anyway and perhaps put him on the bench, but when we found out he wasn't well, we decided to give him a complete break... The likes of Ryan (giggs) and Paul Scholes - players with great experience - will play in Lyon on Wednesday. They'll be very important for us."

giggs a doubt for lyon game.

saf: "The one doubt is Ryan Giggs. The blow he took in the Lyon away game has proved a bit more complicated than we first thought. It’s held him back from training, though he did a bit this morning, and on Saturday morning. He had Sunday off for treatment, so he is a doubt."

Ben Foster completed 90 minutes on his return from knee surgery on Thursday evening, as United's Reserves registered a hard-fought win over Middlesbrough's second string with goals from Sam Hewson and Chris Eagles.

The England international goalkeeper turned in a solid display and showed no apparent ill-effects of his first competitive outing since his final loan appearance for Watford 10 months ago.

Foster was rarely tested by Boro's forwards in a scrappy match, but looked alert and was sharply off his line on a number of occasions. When he was finally beaten, it was by a controversial second half penalty from Boro's Graham Owens.

United may have to give Ben Foster his competitive debut against Derby in the wake of Edwin van der Sar's groin injury and Tomasz Kuszczak's automatic suspension.

If van der Sar isn't fit for Saturday, then Foster's return to action for the reserves last week could prove to be perfectly timed. Assistant manager Carlos Queiroz said van der Sar sustained his injury early in the match against Portsmouth.

Gary Neville played 70 minutes for the Reserves on Wednesday night and now has his sights firmly set on rejoining the race for the Barclays Premier League title.

from mutv: “It’s great to be playing football again... That’s my second (reserves) game in a couple of weeks and I seem to have come through it okay. In that sense it’s a real positive, although I want to get back into travelling with the first team. By next week I’d like to be involved with the first team, even if it's just travelling with the side and being part of it again."

Foster does start:

"Ben Foster will face Derby on Saturday as injury to Edwin van der Sar and a one-match suspension for Tomasz Kuszczak force Sir Alex Ferguson into giving the promising young goalkeeper his Reds debut ahead of schedule.

"Edwin misses the game, so it's a debut for Ben Foster," said Sir Alex. "I had planned to send him out on loan. But Edwin is injured and Tomasz Kuszczak is suspended.
"

And, potentially worrying for those who recently transferred Tevez in (like me), Saha looks like he'll play a part against Derby:

"Sir Alex should also be able to call on Louis Saha against Derby County.

The Frenchman was pencilled in to start against Portsmouth last week, but he pulled up in the warm-up for United's FA Cup tie last weekend with a knee complaint.

But the Reds boss will hope to have the powerful forward at his disposal. He added: "Louis trained on Thursday and if he comes through training on Friday then he will be involved against Derby.
""

international reds

Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani have not linked up with Portugal for their midweek international friendly against Greece. The pair, who both scored in Sunday's Premier League victory over Liverpool, picked up slight leg injuries against Rafael Benitez's side and have been allowed to stay in Manchester.

Wayne Rooney, who was also limping during the latter stages of the 3-0 victory, has linked up with England for their friendly against France, and trained with club-mates Wes Brown, Rio Ferdinand and Owen Hargreaves on Monday.

Patrice Evra could well line up against his United colleagues for Les Bleus at the Stade de France, but Louis Saha withdrew from Raymond Domenech's squad last week.

For the other home nations, Darren Fletcher is in George Burley's first Scotland squad, as they host Croatia, while Jonny Evans is in Northern Ireland's squad to face Georgia at Windsor Park.

Kaka has withdrawn from Brazil's squad to face Sweden, and has been replaced by Anderson. The 19-year-old will only have to make a short trip, as the match is taking place at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium.

Nemanja Vidic is in Serbia's squad to face Ukraine in Germany, while Tomasz Kuszczak is in Poland's party as they host the USA in Krakow.

Poland's U21s line up against England at Molineux on Tuesday evening, with the Reds' Tom Heaton and Fraizer Campbell in line to make appearances for Stuart Pearce's side.

Gerard Pique is also in U21 action for Spain, as they look to edge a step closer to the European U21 Championships with victory over Kazakhstan on Tuesday.

Reds in action
Tuesday, 25 March
England U21 v Poland U21 (19:00)
Spain U21 v Kazakhstan U21 (20:45)

Wednesday, 26 March

United squad: Zieler, Amos; Neville, Eckersley, Cathcart, Chester, C Evans; Cleverley, Gray, Possebon, Jones, Brady, Eikrem; S Evans, Macheda.

Darren Fletcher is unlikely to play again this season having picked up an injury whilst on international duty.

Edwin van der Sar, Ryan Giggs and Patrice Evra all appeared to come through training unscathed as United spent an hour on the Stadio Olimpico pitch on Monday night.

Michael Carrick, however, was forced to watch from the sidelines after picking up an injury in the Reds’ weekend win over Aston Villa.

Mikael Silvestre, with only two Reserves games under his belt since damaging cruciate ligaments last September, looked sharp, as did Rio Ferdinand, despite nursing a black eye sustained during Saturday’s league win.

Michael Carrick is a major injury doubt ahead of United's Champions League game against Roma.

The United midfielder sustained a leg injury in the 4-0 win against Aston Villa on Saturday and face's a race against time to be fit for the quarter final first leg tie in the Italian Capital on Tuesday night.

from the daily mail re: vidic - interestingly written as if it's intended for tomorrow.

Vidic had tests on his injured knee at a Manchester hospital yesterday but it is understood that the Serbian's leg was so badly swollen it was difficult to assess the extent of the damage caused when he fell awkwardly during United's 2-0 win at the Olympic Stadium.

Vidic, 26, needs a more detailed examination this morning with United's medical staff resigned to the fact that he has suffered ligament damage.

The centre half looks to be out for a couple of weeks at least and perhaps will not play again this term.
