Confirmation of some of that early team news, this time from the ManU official site, telling us:

Tomasz Kuszczak will continue to deputise for broken nose victim Edwin van der Sar in United's FA Cup fifth round tie against Reading on Saturday. The Polish stopper has started the Reds' last two Cup games and kept two clean sheets in the Premiership victories over Watford and Charlton.

Van der Sar is making good progress in his recovery, but Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to save the Dutchman for Tuesday's Champions League last 16 trip to Lille. "His nose is still pretty tender so I'll leave him until Tuesday for the game in France," he told Manchester United Radio. "Tomasz has been doing very well and he was excellent against Charlton. His composure and kicking was good and he's an excellent handler of the ball. The more football he gets, the better he'll become."

Cristiano Ronaldo has shaken off the heavy cold which kept him out of United's win over Charlton last weekend, and is fit to face Reading on Saturday.

Sorry to impose, but would urge those who can to watch fergies press conference today, it in my view is very good and a very fair summing up of why we struggle to produce young players at top teams

I’m thinking that when Henrik Larsson goes back to Helsingborg in March, Alan could become a very important player to us"

The United official site reports squad news:

Sir Alex Ferguson has taken a full strength squad to France for Tuesday night's Champions League last 16 clash with Lille. It was a strong and experienced 23-man squad that departed from Manchester airport on Monday morning for the northern French city of Lens. The team will set up base there for two days as Lille play their Champions League home matches at Racing Club Lens' Félix Bollaert stadium.

Edwin van der Sar returns after the broken nose he suffered against Tottenham, and is joined by Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand, who were all rested for Saturday's FA Cup draw with Reading, while Wayne Rooney is back after suspension. Alan Smith, who hasn't played for the first team since November, joins the ranks of forwards.

Full travelling squad
Goalkeepers: Van der Sar, Kuszczak, Heaton.
Defenders: Neville, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Silvestre, Evra, Heinze.
Midfielders: Giggs, Scholes, Carrick, Park, Ronaldo, Fletcher, Richardson, O'Shea.
Forwards: Rooney, Saha, Larsson, Solskjaer, Smith.

The ice might have just been a precaution. SAF was quoted in the Belfast Telegraph's match coverage as saying that he brought him off because "he looked tired". No mention of an injury that I can find in any report so far.

Ferguson believes Alan Smith will be ready to play again once Henrik Larsson returns to Sweden.

"Alan will soon be really important to us - he has trained superbly," said the Reds boss. "I gave him a game in the reserves against Liverpool and it showed he needed a game. When we put him into midfield in the second half he did really well.

"He is absolutely outstanding in training and is improving all the time. I could play him today, no problem at all. "

Cristiano Ronaldo could miss Manchester United’s trip to Fulham on Saturday after kicking some water bottles in a huff. He was angry at being subbed during United’s 1-0 Champions League win in Lille. The winger stormed over to the dugout and is thought to have bruised his foot as he then kicked a pile of water bottles. He needed an ice pack on it and got a precautionary cast to wear.

The Sun

i kind off assumed that the ice pack was as a result of kicking the water bottles - oh dear

early fulham team news from red view.

Team News: Cristiano Ronaldo is a potential doubt, having been treated for a foot injury after being substituted against Lille on Tuesday. Aside from the Portuguese winger and any other minor knocks accrued in France, Sir Alex Ferguson has a full squad at his disposal. Fulham will be missing loan striker Vicenzo Montella after the Italian striker was sent off against Tottenham last Sunday. Chris Coleman has few other injury worries, however, and should be able to field an almost first-choice side.

This report indicates he's not too bad:

but probably know more later today when weekend team news reports come out.

Official ManU website:

Sir Alex Ferguson is confident Ryan Giggs and Cristiano Ronaldo will be fit to face Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday as United bid to go nine points clear of Chelsea. The midfield duo both picked up knocks during United's 1-0 Champions League win away at Lille on Tuesday, but have since trained and look set to make the Reds' starting line-up for the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.

"Ryan and Cristiano are the only two doubts but they both trained on Friday," Sir Alex confirmed at his Friday press briefing. "I'm confident they'll be okay."

Mad - any inside chat on Neville? 5Live reporting in-commentary that rumours abound he had a bust-up with Fergie during the Lille game. Suggestion was Fergie told him to get on with it when Lille walked off, Neville responded and is subsequently absent from today's squad.

i think the rumours are true. it's just alex reminding neville who's boss. i don't think it'll go any further, neville will take it on the chin and will be back in the team against reading.

No suggestion. Watched it on Sky - Sir shouted and demonstrated at Neville and Neville shouted back at Sir. Seems very likely that Sir decided Neville would be taught a lesson today. Maybe Neville needs to apologise to Sir?

i think neville will have apologised to sir  look at saf's past form... ince / beckham / stam / rvn to name a few. there's only one man in charge and he'll make sure everyone remembers that.

neville is big enough (imo) to take it on board and i do honestly think that he will be back in the starting xi against reading.

Not enitrely sure that Neville actually responded verbally to Fergie in Lille - I think he gave him a real stare but more in shock that SAF had shoved him. Anyone else would have got a shove back!

However, on Sky Fergie stated that he had dropped Neville today because he felt that Fulham had 3 big players that came up for set pieces - from which Fulham score 70% odd of their goals and Wes Brown was better suited to handling them. Turns out though that the players Fergie was concerned about were injured and didn't play. Believe what you will!

saf was telling a white lie - could see it in his body language. neville was dropped imo, nothing to do with tactics.

I think he just took a knock. He wasn't even expecting to be subbed and ran off the field when he realised it was him.

Thanks! I appreciate the info. Maybe he should have walked off the pitch to get into the 60th minute! :)

I'll always appreciate Paddy Kenny for lingering into the 60th minute to get us clean sheet points against Arsenal, even though he was injured in about the 56th.
