Tottenham Hotspur

Post by gaz1882 »

Thought I’d update this for anyone wondering about Spurs starting line up.
No Son for all of August as he’s in the Asian cup, so genuinely believe Lamela will get a run, as he’s a Poch favourite.

This should be the starting line up unless Levy gets Enics money out, which is looking worryingly unlikely.

Lloris
Trippier
Sanchez
Verts
Davies
Dier
Wanyama
Lamela
Alli
Eriksen
Kane

Think Davies should get the nod over Rose, unless Poch has forgiven and forgotten.
Dembele should be sold to China and Wanyama having a full preseason will hopefully get him back to his best.
Lucas is the only puzzle for me, might get the nod over Lamela, but Poch didn’t use him much last season even though he looks a decent player. A full preseason will help him no end.

If the rumours about Toby making up with Poch and signing a new contract are true, may switch to a 3-4-3 formation.

I'm afraid it isn't that simple

The WC Semi bods won't be back at Club until the Monday before GW1, and Son is available for GW1

From your line-up:

Lloris - may start if GK's only need a few days.

Trippier - only back the previous Monday
Sanchez 8-)
Verts - only back the previous Monday
Davies 8-)
Dier - only back the previous Monday
Wanyama 8-)
Lamela 8-)
Alli - only back the previous Monday Son
Eriksen 8-)
Kane - only back the previous Monday Llorente, or Son up top with someone else in Alli's spot?

Still think they’ll all play, Kane said they are all still match fit, had 2.5 weeks holiday and will have 5 more days training under their belts before 9th August.
Son can’t play so he’s definitely out.

I'm sure the Son link was from THFC site - he is available for Newcastle then flies to the AG, and was in same piece about his new 5 Year Contract being signed.

No way will they play so many players who are only just back. Maybe 1 or 2 and maybe more from the next week but there will be some slow starters.

Jose made the interesting point about it not being how the returners cop for the next few matches even to Xmas, but they are foooooked after then - see Richarlison last season....

Thought Richarlison was more to do with being a CK, often start firing before fading (was it 5 goals in 12 games then never scored again all season??? - £50 million!!) but your point may have also contributed significantly.

Managers do seem more clued up about bringing players back in slowly, often VERY slowly. Happens a lot after injuries too, even ones that have only put a player out for 2 or 3 weeks.

This season is an absolute pain with some players still on holiday while others are playing in the Charity Shield so pre-season is no guide whatsoever. Haven't picked any teams yet but I already have names in mind who missed the WC or went out early. Back half on thread topic, Kane is a traditionally slow starter anyway so is now doubly one to avoid - but with an easy plan to get him in when firing again.

He was fresh off a season in SA and had no break for 18 months or something. (Discounting his disappearance off the cliff.....)

So, in theory, lineup in first game could see an almost 2nd XI, meaning 1 or 2 WC semi-finalists will surely be asked to play. Are we looking at something like:

Lloris (GK, needs less rest surely)
Rose (limited WC game time) or Walker-Peters
Aurier
Sanchez
Davies
Eriksen
Lamela
Wanyama
Moura or Sissoko or Dembele
Son
Llorente?

Kane and Alli both looked knackered in the WC and need protecting, especially with Son disappearing for a while. Trippier also ran himself off the park and would benefit from an extra week no doubt.

Difficult start it seems.
