Wolves
There are many comings and goings at Wolves right now in a very exciting time for the club. Since being taken over by the hugely rich Chinese conglomerate Fosun exactly two years ago we have come on leaps and bounds and now look like we are getting ready to give the PL a bit of a go.
Wolves are still recruiting, the latest looking like being Portuguese international Joao Moutinho who will take a CM berth alongside Ruben Neves. This could potentially shift Romain Saiss into the back three (where he plays for Morocco) or shift him to the bench if we sign another specialist CB. The club have already signed keeper Rui Patricio and turned the loans of Willy Boly, Diogo Jota and Ruben Vinagre into permanent deals. If Moutinho does sign, he will take the total number of Portuguese players to seven plus ex-Porto head coach Nuno Espirito Santo and and his backroom staff.
Wolves play with a back three - currently Bennett (4.0), Coady and Boly. Barry Douglas and Matt Doherty wingbacks.
Ruben Neves (who is on pens) sits deep in midfield (only three touches inside the box all last season) but is capable of scoring stunning goals from outside the box and dictates the tempo of the game with sublime passing. Moutinho is expected to take Saiss's position alongside Neves in midfield and should complement him perfectly.
Plenty of flair and pace upfront with Jota, Cavaleiro and Costa seemingly first choice right now but Wolves have also added Mexican international Raul Jimenez and signed Leo Bonatini on a permanent basis. There is also talk of Andre Silva coming in from AC Milan.
Other potential players linked are Yerry Mina who would take Bennett's place in the back three, Jonny Castro who would probably give Doherty a real run for his money and Adama Traore from Boro who would add yet more competition and pace to the front three.
This is probably Wolves best XI right now as of July 23:
..............Patricio
.....Bennett...Coady...Boly
Doherty....................Douglas
.....Moutinho (TBC)...Neves
Costa.........Jota.........Cavaleiro
I will update this as we get closer to the end of the window.
Next game is a friendly away at Stoke on Weds 25th July.

Re: Wolves
I would say Neves is the player most likely to pick up bonus points because of his passing, set pieces and pens, not to mention the odd worldy from outside the box.
To answer the question about how I think Wolves will do this season.... it depends on how Nuno sets the team up in the PL. If we play without fear like we did in the Championship I think we will stay up comfortably. We are an exciting team to watch when we are in full flow, with plenty of pace and flair, good passers of the ball and players who are comfortable on the ball, and I hope those attributes shine out for us in the coming season. I don't want us to get sucked into the mindset that many teams in the PL did last season where they just tried not to lose, but I don't think Nuno will set us up that way. From the way we have been recruiting players I don't think our owners would be content with Wolves being in the PL just to make up the numbers. I'm very much looking forward to the season.

Re: Wolves
Who is likely to be the main goal getter? Is there a potential 15 goal a season man in the PL there, or will it be very much everyone chipping in and a lot of reliance on spectacular strikes from midfield?

Re: Wolves
Clean sheets were definitely on the agenda last season, 24 clean sheets in 46 games.
Best goal stats in the division too: F82, A39.

Re: Wolves
Diogo Jota was our top scorer last season. Although I don't see him getting as many (17 goals in the league and 1 in the cup) this season as he did last, I do think he will be up there.
Joao Moutinho signing confirmed.

Re: Wolves
Apologies, but from the write up you implied free flowing, attacking stuff ie Wobbie's Wigan and scoring more than them to get points; and I'm trying to think of the last Club to succeed with that, as most counter attack their way to safety ie concede less ie Hudd (who if they can sort out that scoring thing could do well next season, otherwise I sense relegation). Newcastle were an odd one, and little\no FPL interest for me as they well too complicated for a thread not about them
From the Champ threads (which for a while now I have only visited to moan about Fick Mick and other "functional" Ipswich managers) you lot were a cut above the rest, so had little need to defend?
maybe there is something in looking up F\A figs for promoted Clubs?
And best of luck next season as I do like the promoted Clubs shaking things up rather than Pullis et all keeping the same dross in the top flight.

FF: you should know that 5hite
Blimey if they have a 15 goal bod then they could hit the EL next season
re Jota: he has played CF in the Friendlies? Any idea where Jimenez et al fit in, as in OOP CF is kinda tasty....

Re: Wolves
Jota has been playing up front between Costa and Cavaleiro in the friendlies so far and is definitely OOP in FPL terms.
Tomorrow night's game against Stoke should tell us how Jimenez is going to fit in and also might shed some light on whether Bennett keeps his place in the back three or whether Saiss drops back into that position to accomodate Moutinho alongside Neves in the middle.

Oh QPR? sounds kinda similar
For Colin or 'Arry or both? That was a mad squad, assuming I'm not mixing QPR squads up.

Re: Wolves
Re. QPR - it was Harry (replaced by glorified caretaker Chris Ramsey in February), I was thinking Hughes but that was their previous spell in the PL.
That was a truly dire squad of mercenaries and has-beens. Without Austin’s goals they would have surely have been up there (down there?) with the infamously crap Derby, Sunderland and Villa sides who didn’t make 20 points.

Hughes replaced Colin? That tv doc where they dumped Sousa, who kinda made Swansea, for Colin was something else.forestfan wrote: ↑24 Jul 2018, 19:56 Re. QPR - it was Harry (replaced by glorified caretaker Chris Ramsey in February), I was thinking Hughes but that was their previous spell in the PL.

So 'Arry took them back up then walked when he had his cut of a load of dodgy transfers. to be fair, they got the right one from Blackpool in Phillips, but if 'Arry I'm amazed he didn't go for top, top Ince (now back in the Champ, so I don't have to post that he is pants ). I have memories of a third Ferdinand being pants and a 50 year old Derry at the back?

Re: Wolves
That's correct, it was a bit of a surprise that we took up the option to buy him permanently because he lost all confidence after Christmas and dropped out of the side.
Vinagre was also at Molineux on loan last season, he is a real talent and a bargain at the £2m we paid to make it a permanent deal. He could well force himself into the side this season at LWB.
Wolves are expected to go with three senior keepers this season (Patricio, Ruddy, Norris) with Norris possibly going out on loan in Jan.

After all the kerfuffel last year, where Wolves were questioned on their player recruitment, as Leicester before, there maybe something deeper to this. Why would they deal with one of their accusers?

On the common sense side, Douglas's weak point was his defending. The move to the Prem was a step too far for Nunez to put faith in him?
