Do you think Azpilicueta will be first choice RB under Jose, or is he more likely to prefer Ivanovic?

Re: Chelsea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
With Wallace, who'd be #3 RB, going out on loan chances are that they'll share the slot during the season, much depends on who JM sees as the CB pairing and also whether he considers Luiz as being dependable enough to play CB without wandering off up field frequently and leaving the defence exposed. Wouldn't surprise me to see both start games with Azpilicueta subbed for a CB and Ivanovic switching from CB to RB.pokergod wrote:Do you think Azpilicueta will be first choice RB under Jose, or is he more likely to prefer Ivanovic?

Surely JT is going to feature every week under Jose?
At times last season Ivanovic & Luiz/Cahill looked very shaky in defence.
I can see Terry and Luiz being first choice with Ivanovic at rb.

Even if JM is a Terry fan, his legs arent up to regular football, i think Luiz and Ivanovic will play most games but accross two positions each. So when Terry starts Ivan at RB or Luiz at CM, remember Cahill is in the mix too.theclash wrote:Surely JT is going to feature every week under Jose?

What's people's thoughts on frank lampard? I've seen a few predicted teams around the forum, suggesting that he's not going to be first choice on the teamsheet.

Barcelona put in an offer for Luiz! Bet that's just to annoy Jose.

Mata is a nice curve-ball for those planning to omit him initially specifically because of the journey from Quito.

Re: Chelsea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Mata may still be injured though - it seems likely that he wouldn't play in both games at any rate. Hazard seems a lot safer.
I can definitely see Azpilicueta playing more games at rightback than Ivanovic, but I suspect they'll share a few games.
I don't think Cole or Terry will be able to play every week (the former has a worsening knee(?) problem).
van Ginkel might be interesting... Depends how much Mourinho rates Mikel I think, and I am hoping he agrees with all the fans who think he's crap. I'd expect him to play most of the games that Lampard doesn't, so he could easily be playing 65%. Not much use for fantasy football yet though, unless Lampard re-injures himself at Scotland on Weds.
I'm also hoping Lukaku plays 65%+ games too, but that's probably too few for fantasy football too.
Mata/Cech/Luiz are the only players I'd expect to play 90%+ of games, and even Luiz depends on Mourinho sometimes playing him in midfield. Hazard/Cole/Azpilicueta/Ivanovic maybe 80% of games.

Kevin De Bruyne will feature a lot for Chelsea this season. Look on any Chelsea forum and he's predicted to start against Hull this weekend and tipped to shine this season. He's only £3.1m but will be rotated quite a bit with them having lots of midfielders.

Re: Chelsea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
Most games it's a case of longer term thinking who's going to play most games, but with the DGW1 a few games (Metro, FPL, Sky-captains armband maybe others) it's important to try and guess who's starting both games.
Who do we think is nailed on to start both, anybody else 80%+ to start both. Is Mourinho likely to keep the majority of the starting line-up from Sunday to Wednesday?

Looking at the Roma game mata wasnt even on the bench can we safely assume he wont be in the squad vs Hull ? Luiz started so safe bet he will be in the starting 11 come Saturday ?

Re: Chelsea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
I think he's going to get plenty game time. Subject to more arrivals it's likely to be 3 from Oscar, KDB, Mata, & Hazard virtually every week. That's working on the presumption that Frank, Ramirez, Shurle, MVG are generally vying for the holding 2.Midlander wrote:Kevin De Bruyne will feature a lot for Chelsea this season. Schurrle is a left winger who can play either side. I doubt he'll be holding?CptPugwash wrote:I think he's going to get plenty game time. I'm thinking they line up like this:
...................Cech
Ivanovic...Luiz....Terry.....Cole (Azpil & Cahill getting gametime too)
.......Ramires.....Van Ginkel..... (Lampard (Even Essien?) coming in for some Gametime)
Oscar........Hazard...........Mata (Schurrle for Oscar, either RW or pushing Mata to the middle)
................Torres................... (Ba/Lukaku if not going well)
I still see KDB (& Moses) as more bit part players.
Be interesting to hear what some Chelsea fans think...

Re: Chelsea 2013/14 General Chat & Starting XI Thread
There's threads on the Chelsea forums predicting the lineup for Hull. Mata is only on the bench at best in everyone's teams. He's had a knock so he's very doubtful, but I think he'll be on the bench. He'll start next wednesday against us (Villa).
The general consensus for their first 11 this season seems to be:
Cech
Ivanovic Luiz Terry Cole
Ramires van Ginkel
Oscar/De Bruyne Mata Hazard
Torres/Lukaku

Interesting, especially after Mourinho's comments and tendency to play inverted wingers, I'd have expected Mata to start pretty much all the games on the right tbh, with something like this being what I personally suspect (plenty of rotation in some positions tbh):Midlander wrote:The general consensus for their first 11 this season seems to be:

Juan Mata has played down fears over his Chelsea future, blaming his slow start to the new season on a niggling thigh injury.

Torres only banned for Norwich
Chelsea striker Fernando Torres will not face retrospective action
The FA will take no action against Chelsea’s Fernando Torres in relation to an incident involving Tottenham Hotspur's Jan Vertonghen which occurred in the 50th minute of their match on Saturday 28 September 2013.
One of the match officials saw the coming together of the two players, albeit not in its entirety.

An older article, and not really relevant to Chelsea (except that it references Mourihno), but a "feel-good" story worth sharing...
