That must improve our chance of RETAINING FA cup, our ace tipper has spoken :D he has a impressive record with our results

One trophy in 10 years  rite and Arsenal got out of jail in that in being totally outplayed by a lower division team in the semi and getting thru on pens and then being dead and buried in the final after 5 mins and getting out of jail in extra time.

Proud record yeah.

How glorious to go out yet again in the last 16 in Europe.

Loving it seeing WENGER talking about it as a proud achievement last night.

Been having good humored banter with Dot for years :D for sure his record with us is impressive, but when it comes to knowledge about info regarding fantasy football he probably is one of most well informed on here, his summary on games he used to do was pretty much spot on.

Yup, it's always interesting reading Dot's posts as they're often informative, but every now and then they're total bollox.

See you at Wembley, Mike!

We may well see Raheem Sterling there as well, just depends whether he's managed to climb out of Vlaar's pocket by then...! 8-)

Villa well worth their victory.

Grealish, Delphi, Benteke ran the show.

Way too many anonymous performances from Liverpool. Apt they played in yellow.
Top.

To add to that ,Arsenal were even poorer and more luckier in this semi final against Reading in scraping through, than they were against Wigan last year.

And it's such a shame that Villa will not play as well against Arsenal and will choke in the final with an insipid display matching Liverpools abject Semi performance imo.

I can honestly say, without a shadow of doubt, that was the worst Liverpool semi-final performances I can recall in my life. And the reason wasn't only Villa played better but it was like watching WHU against City earlier, like an end of season, can't be arsed, on the beach already performance , with eff all at stake.
I blame RODGERS, always will he now holds the proud record of being the only Liverpool manager in my lifetime, that's held the post for 3 seasons or more and won eff all!

Get rid!

Arsenal's semi was typical of a team playing opponents a class below and thinking 80% should be enough. Most teams fall for this and it's where they're most vulnerable. No matter what the manager says to motivate them the players can't help themselves in thinking they've got a stone in hand. In recent memory only SAF has been able to scare his team into producing against lesser opposition and that's why he was so effective as a manager. Wenger's buys have been pretty good lately compared to Liverpool Man City and Man U. and as Sleuth says they will raise their game to put Villa away. Brendan Rodgers in dreamland if he thinks Sterling won't do exactly what he wants just like Suarez as nobody has passion for their clubs any more .. only the supporters.

Fair enough Dot, didn't see your post.

I only saw Rodgers comments today as well, was pleasantly surprised to see him say Villa were the better side. Always refreshing to hear a manager speak so candidly and with realism.

I got the feeling Rodgers was out-thought by Sherwood, which frankly is embarrassing.

Finally I agree that Arsenal will likely run us over in the final. They've put us to the sword twice already this season, including a 5-0 shoeing if I recall.

Like to think your correct, but in honesty dont see it, it will be a close game. The young kid you have if reports are to be believed lives for the game and in my view could be the catalyst for Villa, get the crowd behind them and the poor season endured will be put to bed, sadly will not be going and at mo not sure if son will either (be first 1 in his life will have missed at any level ) we had to go halves with our season tickets due finance being a bit tight this season. Very low down on food chain when it comes to tickets these days but we will try to get him there.

I can't go as my booking history is poor this season. Would be a shame if you / your son can't go based purely on finances. I'd happily ping you over some dollars if you'd accept them from me? Let me know if I can be of any help. Wouldn't want proper decent fans like you and your boy to miss out if avoidable..

Thats very kind, but no, hopefully we will get Liam there, family will be represented either way as sister niece and nephew will be there.

Could be a good final as both clubs playing as much for pride as Cup, Hope that both can put out a full strength side if that happens with pace both have up front expect a few goals in game, with 2 in form strikers.

Would love to go this year, but as was the case last year too many supporters to cater for.
I think we got 30k for the semi, as a red member I didnt even get the option, and only 25k for the final. We have 45k season ticket holders.
With the 2 tickets I have for the Sunderland & Swansea games that will be 16 visits to the Emirates this seaon in all comps.
Yet there are still many more deserving cases than me that will be dissappointed. Quite rightly, those that follow the team around the uk get priority.
In Villa's situation, with a regular 30kish home attendance they should give priority to the 22k who showed up for the 3rd round game v Blackpool, not the glory hunters.

Its a problem always has been with cup tickets, never brought into this thing about rewarding those who FA deem worthy to get them at expense of club fans.

Fingers crossed am going to Cfc game this weekend and that for reasons expect many will not understand means more to me than Cup final :D 24 April 1915 we played last game outside top division, been waiting for it since was a very young kid, for sure hope for a win but even that will be secondary, well aware that Everton have been in top division for more years than us, but ours is the longest continuous, all I need after that is to see us win Champ league and will have seen the full set, not sure will ever see that

Would have thought that Arsenal's best chance went with Lehmann's brain explosion and Henry's missed chances in the 2006 final, but you never know. You certainly have to be in it to win it, and Arsenal do make the KO stages each season. From there, a few slices of Chelsea-sized luck might just take you all the way one season.

Have to say that the Gunners team of the Henry/Bergkamp/Vieira/Pires era is the best British team never to have won the CL, in the same way that many would rate the Spurs double side as the unluckiest not to win the old European Cup (sources say that they were on the rough end of a few critical refereeing decisions in the semi against Benfica).

Magnificent achievement by Arsenal to retain top-flight status for 100 years. Hope to see a competitive FA Cup Final although, naturally, I will be cheering on Lance Corporal Sherwood's current charges.

Well, if Villa play as well in the FA Cup final as they did at Man City yesterday (keeping disaster aside) then Arsenal are in for a tough afternoon. Thought that LC Sherwood's charges were terrific and probably denied a deserved victory by that poor offside call against Benteke just before City's winner. From an England perspective, I was really heartened by Fabian Delph's brilliant all-round performance in central midfield. Really hope that they stay up and continue playing this way next season, the Premiership needs a strong Aston Villa side.

Agree, could be a terrific open final. Not sure that Sherwood tactically is that good (may well come with bit more experience) but his motivation abilities are good just what Villa needed and if there fans as in last few games get behind them, we will need to be at our best to win it.

Off to game in a little, likely to be last time will see us live, hope for a win but more than likely will be like my first game (am assuming cant remember, :D as we were dire in those days) and we lose, 64 years is a long time to be going to see the same thing but they have given me so many highs and lows loved every minute.

Unfortunately we (Villa) are dog shite defensively. Would like to think we'll give Arsenal a game, but they should create plenty of chances and will score goals. I just don't see us scoring more than one. 3-1 Arsenal would be my guess.

But yes, I cried yesterday when City went 3-2 up. Thought we deserved at least a point. Delph was magnificent....again!!

An interesting stat came up on Boyd Hilton's podcast from one of the guests.
Of the (so far) 15 games we have played against teams in the current top 9, we have won 4 of the them, Southampton are on 5.
Even more of an insight, if you constructed a mini league of the top 9 teams games against each other, we would be rock bottom.
The Arsenal improvement since last season myth gets blown out of the water.

Have to say that is what generally happens but I did feel their stats were better this year (the myth?)

Selecting the top 9 is a bit weird - have Arsenal done particularly badly against 7th to 9th?? Would they be bottom of a top 4/5 analysis??

Cech alone will not be enough for Arsenal to win the league.

However, if Wenger can bring in Vidal, another decent CB and some firepower then the title is a possibility.

Yeah, they need more signing's of course, but Cech is a good start, even though he is getting on in age.

Where will/Will Theo Walcott be in the starting line up this year? Towards the end of last year, baring the FA cup final, Wenger seemed to bench him a lot...

Wenger's excuse for using Walcott lightly was easing him back from injury, he cant keep using it.
The main issue is who can play on the right, Wenger thinks everyone can, but not everyone agrees.
Ramsey has been occasionally stuck out there, he hates it, Welbeck has had a turn with not great success.
Ozil, Sanchez, and Carzola (when not playing a holding position) have rarely flourished other than on the left/left centre.
The right side, sometimes cutting inside is Walcott's strength.
So with Welbeck doubtful its between Ramsey and Walcott, and with Sanchez not available for the first 2 or 3 games Wenger will want more penetration from the right.
I am attending the Emirates tomorrow, not sure if its on live tv but you do see more when at the game, not just what the tv director wants you to see. I will report on Monday if there was anything note worthy.
From what I saw of Wally when he began playing again he looked to have lost a yard of pace and seemed reluctant to take on the full back for pure speed. Most of those flurry of goals he scored at the back end of the season were down to being in the right place, in a central striker mode.
Personally, I remain unconvinced.

Blimey!!!!!
If we can play even close to that (know its pre-season) what a joy to watch, 4 goals 3 of stunning quality, Ozil and Ramsey just on a different planet and with Iwobi showing its not just his uncle could play very encouraging for new season.
