FISO Virtual Relay London Marathon - NOW into our 2nd year

Post by murf »

FISO Tag Relay Virtual London Marathon / 2.6 Challenge - Sunday 26th April

This Sunday (26th April) was supposed to be the day of the London Marathon. So why don't we run it in a tag relay sort of thing?

There is also the 2.6 Challenge led by UK charities. This is broadly in line with that but I will leave any charity aspects to you (you can advertise for sponsors on here I guess).

It would need 10 runners to each 'just' do 2.6 miles (4.184km) at some time on sunday. Can sort the details up later but would be good to do it as a relay with runners checking in after their run to TAG the next runner who can then start (with gaps between runners as necessary) and add our times together. A marathon is 26 miles 385 yards so someone unfit (Blah? ) or flatbound (admin - how many laps?) can do the extra 385 yards.

Anyone non-UK is happy to join in and maybe our antipodes could give us a head start by running on their sunday morning (our saturday evening) and any lagging Americans could finish it off.

No pressures on times - you can walk if you like or maybe do less distance as a part stint??

Who is up for it? 2.6 miles each (put in brackets if you are happy to go further or have a non-FISO friend/partner/child/dog who could do a stint). Just sorting out if it is a go-er to start with.

1. murf (happy to go double that / with my dog Faye doing a stint).

I will be running at some point on Sunday so happy to be a part of the team. It won't be fast as I am recovering from injury. Happy to do a longer stretch if possible as otherwise it's a bit short for the effort of changing!

Same here. My shortest route at the mo is just under 4 miles.

Any more? Is this a runner??

I'd be up for it. I run two or three miles every couple of days anyway with one of my lads, and always on a Sunday (but would be happy to do more than 2.6 if needed).

I've done the real one 3 times and ended up in the back of an ambulance last time 3 yrs ago, at the 21 mile point. Managed to do the last 5m then so no excuses now.

I'm in.

On my running machine as I am looking after the heavily pregnant Mrs R and would rather try running it than a slow walk in the sunshine outside.

I'll bump up to 5k if it helps us get there.

I can do ( 2x2.6 ) 5.2 miles on Saturday or Sunday to suit. Mrs O had a ride in an ambulance today so I will be donating to St John ambulance as they were great when they picked her up.

Cool. Would like to get 10 of us but we may need to do more each.

Great to donate. I'm leaving that to individuals rather than organising or 'dictating' anything.

Hoping I can still do it as I've got a niggly ankle injury, especially going downhill. Have been (mostly) running every 3 days but was still an issue yesterday morning (ok in afternoon!) so I'm not doing my scheduled run today. Probably sensible to rest it til sunday.

I suppose we should get this rolling.

Ideally.... a relay on sunday but saturday or even monday ok. Put down your preferred time (translate to UK-BST) and whether you want to do a second (part) stint. As it stood there were 7 of us of the 10 needed. I'll count my dog for 8!:

Think we had best just declare rather than 'pass the baton'. We have 6 FISOers + 2 non- FISOers so we have an extra 5.2 miles to find. Oxford NZ and Brightwater Jr may have that covered by the time we all get up tomorrow.

I'll see if I can get a breakdown of the London Marathon course to see who is running where.

Feel free to take photos on your run and post them on here to show off London's sights.

I will do 11am on Sunday and 5k. Not in shape at all so best I can hope for is 30 mins I fear. I live on the actual route but will treadmill to save my knees and avoid leaving Mrs R on her own.

In my mind I will cover the 32to 37km bit of the course

I'll take 8pm Sunday please, as that's when we usually go. Would have been happy to run further, but sounds like you lot could be at The Mall already by the time I set off.

If there's still any distance to cover, then looks like I'm on the anchor leg, which I know most of the time is reserved for the fastest runner.

This isn't one of those times.

Brightwater Jr does a bit of weaving in his 5.2 mile kick off stint (blame the dodgy Strava which showed 6 miles clocked and located the run about 10 miles too far north)

He actually left Greenwich Common heading eastward through Woolwich and dropped down through Charlton (very Athletic) and the baton has now just crossed the Blackwall Tunnel southern approach road in Westcombe Park.

Oxford NZ is next up for a double stint taking us along the southern banks of the Thames (sort of) past the historic Cutty Sark and round to Rotherhithe.

5.2 miles in 1 hour 17 mins done. Sorry for the slow pace, gum boots and a bust foot would not let me get any faster than a walking pace. Pictures to come when I can reduce the file size.
Enjoy your runs and hope the weather is as kind as it was for me. The sun is now going down and the sunset is awesome, a nice time for quiet contemplation.
