murf's FISO *Charity* Virtual Grand National Sweepstake

Post by murf »

As you may have heard there isn't much sport on at the moment :P

But there is a VIRTUAL grand national being held tomorrow, live on telly, 5pm:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/horse-racing/52066925

A computer simulation of the race that would have been.....

All bookies are running this with odds fixed across all sites and their profits going to charity. Hurrah.

So, lets have a sweepstake!

I know we won't get 40 individual entrants so you can ask for as many horses as you want.
Rules-
1. Ask on this thread for however many horses you want (copy and paste the list, adding yourself on)
2. If over 40 horses are asked for then there will be a limit with me reducing the requests of the biggest asks (eg those asking for 10 may only get 4)
3. I will allocate nags at random and announce it on here. There will need to be a deadline - maybe tomorrow morning - what do you reckon??
4. Place at least a £1 bet online on each horse you are allocated (this can be 'on the nose' or 50p each way if you have an outsider - up to you)
5. By entering you promise to give at least half of your winnings to a Covid-19 linked charity of your choice
6. Do I need a 6? If so, I reserve the right to add it later!

Thanks for running this. What random method are you using - is it Kylie again?

Trying to sort it out remotely as Kylie can't travel here to personally manipulate my velvet bag.

16 in so far. Great stuff.

22 nags claimed so far.

More takers wanted. Keep going if it gets past 40 and I'll trim the requests of the biggest takers

I'll set a deadline of noon-ish tomorrow (BST/UK time Saturday) to give 5hrs for me and Kylie to allocate horses to stables and for you to all make your charity bets.

I would love to be in but not sure of the logistics from here. Oxford NZ how are you going to do this? I used to have an account with Paddy but I dont use it anymore, I am willing to get 4 horses if you put my bets on, thats the other question if i will know my horses in time? Its daylight savings changing back today so I will be awake to hear the race though. I can pay you back via IB ? or paypal?

I have no betting account but willing for a bit of fun to donate anyway.
If my horse wins I am just going to donate $2 x odds to St John. 100 to 1 times $2 and I donate $200. If my horse looses I will probably donate to the charity anyway. I am just picking 4 charities and allocating them to a runner. More fun this way, the charity will always be a winner and not the bookmaker :)

I will dish out the horses that are taken so far soon (assuming I can get the kylielink working)

The rest will still be available to any newcomers or anyone in already wanting to 'buy' more entries.

Entry is opened up to non-FISoers/wives/girlfriends/husbands/boyfriends/mums/dads/kids/dogs/ferrets/anybodyelsewhoknowsyou

If they aren't all taken I'll share them out later as a 'look what you could have won'!

Put 50p each way on my 4 for this.
Definitly Red, 14-1, (plus extra £1 e/w as good bet and for his name!)
Shattered Love, 66-1, (plus extra £1 e/w as fate has given him to me in 2 sweeps)
Magic Of Light, 18-1,
Lake View Lad, 50-1,

Just for the record, Mrs m (who wanted to pick her own!) also put 50p e/w on
Tiger Roll
Any Second Now
Burrows Saint
Walk In The Mill
(she has a very good GN record so we'll see how good the computer is....)

Shaggy365X2 9 Jett, Sam Waley-Cohen, 50-1, 10-13 - The Wings song or Joan?

OnzX 10 Alpha Des Obeaux, Richard Johnson, 25-1, 10-13 - A The What? My French isn't good enough here….

Mrs TPX2 16 Ballyoptic, Sam Twiston-Davies, 25-1, 10-11 - Posh double-barrelled bloke pseudo-swears when his whisky doesn't pour
19 Sub Lieutenant, JJ Slevin, 33-1, 10-9 - In charge of the horsemeat sandwiches

Last time I had a go in a Grand National sweepstake was some horse called Esha Ness. Not got a good record in things like this.
