Yes, I liked that one too but with the vaccine drugs involved maybe the original is more apt. Or maybe not.....

The only dopes in this case are the ones who don’t take the drugs…

I think you’re right about the decline of proper nightclubs, there were stories a few years ago about the fall in number and that people now did it more as a special occasion than a weekly thing. Though there’s probably more hybrid pub-bar-club type places, that may have reopened in some form earlier.
My kids go to clubs all the time, but yeah - more like pub-bar-club places than the Ministry of Sound / Haçienda type 'club clubs'. Elder daughter goes to Fabric and Heaven sometimes but thats more of a one off thing.

I'll be in Rock City in mid October for Fontaines DC, assuming its all still OK by then. Probably going to be a bit strange I guess.

Or the last resort, small town “sounded like a good idea when the pubs closed at 11pm” clubs? The poky little places where you paid an exorbitant amount to go in and queue for ages to buy a bottle of some unidentified alcoholic substance, your feet stuck to the floor, the music was shite, and after half an hour you thought “sod this, I’m off for a kebab”?

Mu variant now identified (are cats particularly susceptible to it?)

The next one should be Nu, which would be a bit confusing… and then there’s Xi, which would be controversial despite the pronunciation difference!

be hilarious if Ronaldo got Covid on international duty and missed games on his return. Wonder how many will have transferred him in by the Newcastle game...

So, vaccine passports scrapped, with the Health Secretary announcing it on a TV talk show…

Seems they’re still making it up as they go along, and having their strings pulled by ERG backbenchers also unhappy about the care tax. Boris will set out his “plans” for the winter this week, but I suspect it will be do as little as possible then make some panic moves when the NHS reaches breaking point.

This made me chuckle....
Prof Chris Whitty, chief medical adviser, warned that "winter is coming".
Jeez as if Covid wasn't enough now we have the eff Night King to worry about.

We really don't need vaccine passports - I can't think of anything worse. Deaths among fully vaccinated people account for about 1% of covid deaths overall now. Don't get forcing a vaccine passport on us. I've had my jabs and I'll take my chances, ta very much.

Is it really as low as 1%? So what 10% or so of the population providing 99% of the covid deaths?

Is that ongoing, i.e. 1% of daily deaths?

256 out of 51,000, somewhere on the BBC website.

Basically if you're unvaccinated you run the risk. It's totally down to personal choice, but the Govt shouldn't be so dumb as to penalise the majority with an idea like vaccine passports.

Wow. In a 'good' way. But just shows the power of the vaccine. Not sure where the 55k death figure comes from though, cases maybe rather than deaths?

I think the same figures/percentages are starting to be reflected too in America's covid figures. Mainly those that choose not to have the vaccine are at risk. Although Nicky Minaj had a friend whose balls swelled up after taking the vaccine. Allegedly.

I just mean the level without any Conspiracy Theory about the Govt using COVID to eliminate all the Conspiracy Theorists... (btw I did just make that one up 😎)

Lemmings are more successful in dying? Maybe 1 day I'll look up why they aren't extinct 🤷‍♂️

Unfortunately they don't quote like for like numbers of death rates with and without. For much of that period (Jan to July) few people were vaccinated, so few vaccinated people would die.

The graph seems to show quite a few people were vaccinated in this period, unless I am looking at it wrong ? I know I had my jabs in April and June.

Who are they penalising, other than those who won’t have the vaccine? If I’ve had it then I don’t care whether or not someone asks me to prove it, I wouldn’t see that as “penalising” me in any way…

Whether the admin is worth it is another question, it’s hard to judge how often super-spreader events are happening now. But if the alternative is closing certain venues completely if things get worse, then I’d imagine a lot of businesses would accept it.

Why should everyone have to go through the faff of obtaining such a passport? . It would no doubt be a nightmare, the IT would be crap, who would check, it could be forged, there would be countless arguments which venues you would have to show it and which ones you wouldn't, then arguments between the owners of such establishments, then claims for financial compensation by those who lose out and so on. Its just a bad, bad idea.

I’d imagine it would be a phone app, rather than a blue/black paper document printed in France

It’s not workable for small venues, but as a last resort might have worked for keeping large events going. Scotland can be the guinea pigs, anyway…

In the period yes, or at least by the end of the period, but the deaths are over the whole period (Jan - July), and only really "count" 2 weeks after the last one. And actually people often take some time to die after catching it.
