Re: Dr Who
The whole thing revolved around a) the squiggles being what the 'ghosts' were saying and b) that representing co-ordinates.
How the doc came to either (hard to figure) conclusion was never explained or justified. Suspend your disbelief over that (and not being able to move in time due to the tardis being scared of ghosts - which ultimately they will prove not to be, shirley) and it was a harmless enough romp.
Doc was less annoying but I still say:

Re: Dr Who
I'm pretty certain Missy would become excruciating after a couple of full episodes. I still love Capaldi's delivery of lines like, "it's ok, I understand... You're an idiot."
As for the detail of the episode, it was enough to know that he knew the TARDIS didn't directly translate the symbols for him to understand that they must have been understood somewhere. You might have missed but he's pretty smart. Also, the TARDIS has a personality, it's often taken action of its own accord. His comment that they're scared of them is just a 'human' way of saying it's systems are wary of them, not that it had genuine fear.
Anyway, there was a lot more exposition about how/why they did things than we get in the average episode of Sherlock so I don't think we can be too critical!

Re: Dr Who
Missy is okay in small doses but I'm still not happy with The Master being a woman.
What are we going to get next? Wonder Bloke, Mister Marple or maybe Brian The Vampire Slayer?

Re: Dr Who
Also the storylines have improved with the return of 2 part episodes.
All the 1 part episodes in last series seemed to rush through stories

Re: Dr Who
[spoiler alert]
I liked the recent double episode but one thing that bugged me, that I don't think was covered off, was where, if the Zygons make a copy of the human they base themselves on, are the 20m or so humans that they replaced? They can't be dead or the Zygons would have been dead (or at least near-death in many cases) as well. This was highlighted at the end when the reformed Zygon who replaced Clara said it wouldn't have been right to keep her form.
Did I miss something?

Re: Dr Who
Doctor Who with a hint of Harry Potter and pinch of GoT.
The death of Clara was handled quite well, could have been distressing for some of a certain age (over 40's males).

Lovely couple of episodes there, leading up to an interesting looking series finale. What a dark theme that last episode that was too...

Re: Dr Who
The only thing I didn't like about that last episode is that the 100 billion or so skulls in the water that would have been there by the last attempt would have together had a volume about 400 times bigger than planet Earth (assuming it took him about a week each time he went round a cycle). Now he said the rooms reset, but the walls obviously didn't reset or his solution wouldn't have worked, and the seabed obviously didn't reset or there wouldn't have been any skulls down there at all. So where did all those other skulls go that should have been piled up on top of the castle by the time everything finished
(Yes I'm just being a pedant of the worst kind, this isn't a serious criticism)

Re: Dr Who
Or why there was a whole seabed full of them when he went down there when the first time, as we saw it, which was a mere 7000 years in the future. Etc.
Like you say, when it comes to time travel sci-fi a lot of disbelief needs to be suspended.

Re: Dr Who
Well, at one a week 7000 years is still 50,000 skulls....
The other one is did the first loop have him take his wet clothes off and run round the rest of the loop naked?

Re: Dr Who
My wife said the same, there's definitely a good case for a spin-off with them.
It's also interesting to note that the 2IC of the high council regenerated from a white man to a black woman - I felt that was them setting out their stall and clarifying that there's absolutely nothing to stop them doing something very radical (for the 20th century at least!) with the Dr once Capaldi bows out.

Re: Dr Who
Done well, I'm not too bothered. It's not like he's a character from literature like James Bond. They can do what they want with him, hell he could even be a alien if the stories are good.
