Re: Beerfuelled Movie Appreciation Thread
last weeks in flight movies watched:
- I Tonya, which was a lot better than I was expecting (liked the style of it and the fact it wasn't just a straight documentary) 7.5/10
- Arctic. For a film that really only has 2 people in it (and one of them doesn't say anything, well in fact the other one doesn't say much either) its surprisingly good. 8/10
- Love you to death. Really good. Lucky enough to not actually know what it was about before I watched it, which made it massively more entertaining to watch (so won't spoil the surprise!) 8.5/10
- Escape room (I think it was called that). A bit crap 4/10
- The Kid. Western about Pat Garett and Billy the Kid. Good in parts, but never quite hits the heights. Pat Garett (Ethan Hawke?) was excellent though 7/10
- Extremely wicked, shockingly evil and vile. Ted Bundy story. Again, better than I thought it was going to be. Not so much about the murders, more about the charisma of the serial killer. Just your regular, charismatic mass murderer next door. 8/10

Oh and Darkest Hour as well.
didn't even realise it was Gary Oldman playing Churchill. Make up artist deserves a medal. Thought it was very good. Not just your usual jingoistic plucky Brit stuff, more about the political manoeuvring of Chamberlain and Halifax. 8/10

A few long flights rather than lots of short ones. Last week was UK to BKK and back. Just happens that a lot of the businesses I've been working with over the last 3 years have been in S America and Asia. At least the food's good! (when I get there, not on the plane, although to be fair Airplane food isn't too bad these days and they keep you topped up with booze)

And it's airplane food
That keeps us on the move
Our radios are tuned
To the supermarket groove
And lift music
That keeps us on the move
Our radios are tuned
To the supermarket groove
And lift music

Re: Beerfuelled Movie Appreciation Thread
I saw 'Airplane food' and knew it was a song. Thought it was Carter but had to google the lyric. Can't imagine HMHB using the word Airplane. Or anyone really. Just you and Carter so I presumed it was deliberate!

Re: Beerfuelled Movie Appreciation Thread
I guess that once we've left the EU we'll be freed from the shackles of having to use French words like Aeroplane and Chauffeur and can just use Airplane and Driver instead. I guess we'd still use 'Film' rather than 'Movie' (Film's a bit German, but English is essentially a branch of German anyway, so thats OK), but where would we watch them? Cinema - too French. Theatre - also French, but more Latin really, which no-one speaks any more, apart from scientists, doctors and Old Etonian Tories who want to speak down to the proles, so probably OK
So we can probably still watch a Film in the Theatre (or maybe Picture House for non-scientists/Right wing privileged public schoolboys with 6 toes), until we go full-on 51st state and can finally just go and watch a movie in a movie theatre.
Maybe we should all just start speaking Welsh and watch Ffilms in the Sinema instead.

Both aeroplane and aviation are derived from French/Latin words, so I guess you could call that a score draw
But will it take off?

We could have a poll but it would probably be 52/48 and still nobody would agree about anything and just become more entrenched in their positions.Billy Whiz wrote:But will it take off?
Then Boris would jump in the pilot's seat and assure everyone it would take off and there would be a last minute deal to get an engine as he heads down the runway.

El Camino (the breaking bad movie).
Just a bloated episode and a bit dull if truth be told. Worth watch as a BB fan, but definitely need to have watched the series to watch the the movie.
First 50 odd minutes were just uneventful padding.
As a movie 5/10
As a continuation of breaking bad 7/10.

Sums up the start of the 2nd Bladerunner too: basically the film starts when Ford appears.
It is also a tad heavy on visuals using the 4k\UHD which gets rather tiresome although by the whatever of averages has some stunning moments.
Overall it is a good film and well worth a watch or three.

We sort of enjoyed it obviously as massive BB and BCS fans and it was great to get Jesse’s story but yeah it wasn’t overly amazing tbh 7/10 about right tbf
And it delayed the new series of BCS by 6 months which I’m not at all happy about - I mean it’s not as though any of the BCS characters are in it anyway apart from little snippets.

Hatton Garden Job... garbage 5/10. Obviously sounded like a great idea for a film, but when it came down to it, they had barely enough info to make one. A poor mans Lock Stock. Swerve it.

Re: Beerfuelled Movie Appreciation Thread
The Irishman... about 90 minutes too long. Stellar cast and Scorsese doing what he does; but it was all a bit boring and hard to believe a 70 odd year di Niro pretending to be a guy in his 30s.
If you like the genre, worth a watch... but it’s not must see IMO.

Re: Beerfuelled Movie Appreciation Thread
Once upon a time in Hollywood Tarantino, stellar cast, Manson murders as a foundation for the story line... what a cocktail. Sadly a bit of a rambling mess. Good finale salvaged a 7/10 for what was largely not that good a film.

I’m assuming Sten had see those in his list.
I’d also vouch for Green Book. One of the best films of the decade for me.
