Re: Favourite Movies on the Box
Absolute cult classic. Keep seeing it on Netflix and getting tempted to re-watch; think I may have to do just that!moonlightdribbler wrote:The classic Warriors, tonight on Film4, 11pm.
In 1979 a charismatic leader summons the street gangs of New York City in a bid to take it over. When he is killed, The Warriors are falsely blamed and now must fight their way home while every other gang is hunting them down to kill them. (7.7 on imdb)
Everyone's already seen this though, right?

The Heat (Channel 4, Saturday 26th March, 9pm) - usually I don't find Melissa McCarthy even slightly amusing but she's admittedly hilarious in this flick (8/10).

I've just been made to watch her in Identity Theft. After 20 minutes I just had the urge to punch her in the face to make her stop talking. About as funny as being hit by a car.

Yep pretty much felt the same, only laughed maybe once through the entire running time so all in all a pretty painful viewing experience.Moist von Lipwig wrote:Razorback wrote:The Heat (Channel 4, Saturday 26th March, 9pm) - usually I don't find Melissa McCarthy even slightly amusing but she's admittedly hilarious in this flick (8/10).

Re: Favourite Movies on the Box
7/10 from me too largely because of the great cast than the quality of film (could easily have been a 6).Razorback wrote:Killing Them Softly (Film4, Monday 19th January, 10:50pm) - a decent dramatic thriller with a really great cast (7/10).
Decent premise, but just too many (needless) protracted scenes of pointless conversations.

Re: Favourite Movies on the Box
Got round to watching Sex, lies and videotape... i'd heard of it, but never heard about it (good or bad).
At the end, I was a bit disappointed - however, it had kept me captivated and intrigued all the way through.
It was quite alluring to watch but i think was waiting for a plot twist or a sucker punch that never came, hence the disappointment.
Have just read that its seen as culturally significant and it won many accolades - if id known that up front, i might have been even more disappointed.
Finding out it was an independent (and bearing in mind it was released in 1989), I'm slightly more impressed.
I'm a confused 7+/10
And to be honest, 27 years old, and its not really that dated either.

If so I think I remember quite a bit of discussion about it on here involving Razorback and others.

Yes they get caught in a loop which always ends badly and the heroine has to figure out how to break out

Qindeedy Re: Favourite Movies on the Box
Indeedy but with more blood and guts and Melissa George
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0313534/?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm
If you like the genre here are a few smilar movies
Predestination - outstanding
Edge of tomorrow - fun and flashy
Timecrimes - hated it
But I reckon Triangle and Predestination are my favourites
Better to watch with someone else who can explain the paradox thingie - usually the Mrs

I know I could look them up but it's more fun guessing: is Predestination the low budget one set in a long term storage building?

Nope that was Storage 24 - not very good
Predestination is a tale about a time cop Ethan Hawke who is on the hunt for an elusive criminal
http://gb.imdb.com/title/tt2397535/
7.4 on Imdb and 9.0 on Jimdb

Good call Razor
Always good to find a horror that is enjoyable after several viewings.
Edit - I knew I'd seen the mother before. She was Megan in Reanimator

Re: Favourite Movies on the Box
Probably a bit too highbrow for all you cinema snobs but can I just say that I really enjoyed Paddington last night.
Was worried it would be too silly and not faithful enough to the original stories but it satisfied there and was clever enough (CGI etc) whilst being funny and charming. Even Nicole Kidman's Cruella De Ville rip off was just about Ok!
