Re: Great TV Series
It gets better, S1 was very low budget. It helps you are bingeing through from the start as you’ll find bits cropping up in later series that refer back to earlier ones which you’ll remember. I had to google to remind myself!
Stick with it.

Re: Great TV Series
As LoD finishes this weekend we thought we'd better start S7!
Watched the first two and we both think it is pretty poor (esp. by its own standards). The reasons for running an AC12 investigation are very dodgy even if the case is very fishy. The use of TLA's etc is an in-joke that has gone too far.
Will keep going as it must get better.

Re: Great TV Series
Yeah, I actually picked it up a few series in, then later went back and binged the early ones (although there are running threads and references to past events, each series does work as a self-contained story). You still forget who people were even when you’ve seen the past series quite recently!happyhoppy wrote: ↑29 Apr 2021, 11:58 It gets better, S1 was very low budget. Budget is a double-edged sword, if you watch a lot of long-running series again then S1 probably looks tin-pot while S(however many there end up being) looks over the top. George R.R. Martin recently said his least favourite bit of Game of Thrones on TV was not something from the widely slated last couple of seasons, but the boar hunt incident in season 1 that was largely off camera due to budgetary constraints!

I remember when he tried to drop the “H” nickname, and revert to his real name... unfortunately, his now notorious namesake then hit the headlines, and one site even published a photo of the wrong one...

Re: Great TV Series
Just watched LOD series 1. Only really started because ‘Kate’ used to go to my local school and went to the same dance school as my daughter (a few years earlier) so there was a bit of local interest.
Seemed a bit contrived at times but definitely edge of the seat stuff so the binge will go on.
I’m going to have to avoid this thread for a bit though in case of season 8 spoilers...

Re: Great TV Series
So just hours until all is revealed... who’s bent, who’s clean, who gets killed, who survives, who’s running the show, who ends up on the Iron Throne and no doubt more
Mercurio is well known for referencing barely disguised real-life events... and I’ve just discovered that Jake Arnott is a crime author who specialises in “beneath the surface” stories. So presumably inspired Steve’s character name!

Like the Battle Of Hastings referenced earlier in the series.forestfan wrote:So just hours until all is revealed... who’s bent, who’s clean, who gets killed, who survives, who’s running the show, who ends up on the Iron Throne and no doubt more

Anybody notice the mis-spelling of Definitely a couple of episodes back? Can't remember but wasn't that a clue 2 or 3 series ago??? Who was it?
Hastings' female boss was noticeably missing last week. H for Her.
PS bit weird to use James Nesbit in pics then kill him before he actually appears live on screen!

Re: Great TV Series
Hastings used the mis-spelling last series, along with the mysterious figure behind the laptop.
Strong likelihood it wasn’t actually Nesbitt’s character who was the body they found in that grainy footage from Spain...

Re: Great TV Series
Hope it isn't a spoiler to say the ending of S6 of LoD was a bit poor. GoT poor rather than Lost poor but all in all just a bit feeble and underwhelming.
Anyway, to fill the sunday night gap.... next week, ch4, Series 4 of Fargo. Back in time to the 50s...

Re: Great TV Series
A bit underwhelming but quite clever anyway... expected a few more fireworks though.
[spoiler]
I’d prepared myself for the heroic, or maybe villainous, demise of one of the big three (probably Hastings) so almost disappointed it didn’t happen! Ser Alliser Thorne got away scot-free when he’s obviously as bent as a £9 note so still leaves potential for another series if Mercurio wants it. Maybe a spin-off of some sort will happen if not.

Re: Great TV Series
Anyway, Martin Compston next stars in submarine-based thriller Vigil, which was advertised after LoD so assumed it was the timeslot replacement next week... but seemingly no launch date yet confirmed.

Re: Great TV Series
Finished, LoD S2.
Pretty good, (episode 1 had a bit of a unexpected shock )...but the writers could probably do with a bit of a 'less is more' review, as everyone seems to have their own issue(s) going on, it gets a a bit OTT at times. Still, good enough to continue onto S3...

Re: Great TV Series
Been watching the Gods of Snooker documentary series to fill the AC-12 shaped hole on Sunday evenings... I know there have been 1001 Alex Higgins documentaries and re-runs of the Davis-Taylor final over the years, but interesting (as per Steve...) anyway. We all remember Snooker Loopy, but I didn’t know that the “bad boys” of snooker (Higgins, White, Knowles and Kirk Stevens) released a rival single (Quo cover) which flopped!

Re: Great TV Series
I think Dexter and True Detective are some of the best TV shows. I also like the series The Mentalist. All this is, in principle, about detective investigations. To a lesser extent, I like the series "Lucifer", the plot is silly, but it is pulled out by the charisma of the protagonist.
