Quick question about the weekly games on FanTeam...

Is the prizepool for these games guaranteed or will it instead be a carve-up of the total amount paid by entrants (presumably by the ratios set out in the description of Prizes)?

At the time I write this, the "GW 1 Main Event" with €20 buy-in has 285 entrants, meaning the entrants have funded €5,700. Long way from there to the stated prize pool of €50,000!
I quite like the idea of taking part in a competition where so much of the prize pool is funded not by entrants but a company's shareholders :)
Sounds too good to be true, and the description of the weekly contest isn't screaming that it's a guaranteed pool (unlike the heavily promoted season-long game).

Yes the Fanteam GW1 50k is guaranteed.

'Don’t forget the €50,000 GTD Gameweek 1! For the main buy-in of €20, the guaranteed prize pool will be 50k, which is double of previous year.'

I'd rather stick my money in multiple sky leagues.
Guaranteed secure, hassle free, and probably
got more chance of winning.

What reputation do they have to lose, by saying at
the end of it all 'sorry we can't pay out because we've
lost money'.
At the end of the day, this is just glorified gambling, and
even bookies don't have a legal obligation to pay out, they
just do because it's a gentlemans agreement.

Wouldn't surprise me if they walk off with the money, claiming it
as lost and you don't even get your stake back.
Sites often accept that they will lose money on something like this, since they are more focused on the bigger picture. Big guarantees attract plenty of new customers, and if people are logging on every gw to sort their teams they will be tempted to play in the weekly games as well, which is where most of the site's revenue comes from. They are also licensed in Malta and UK gambling law is rock solid too, so I think you should be very surprised if they steal your money! Fwiw I have been involved with real-money fantasy sports for as long as it's been around in the UK, and whilst sites go out of business/pull out of the market, they never fail to pay you first.

Also, yes this is gambling but do you consider FPL to be a skill game or not? I would say it's a skill game with luck involved, which is different to a lot of 'traditional' gambling.

Anyway, I thought I would let everyone know that FantasyBet also have a season-long competition. Theirs is £50k guaranteed, £5.50 entry fee, and it works a bit differently. The first two gameweeks are for qualifying, after which points are reset and teams are split into 4 divisions. Prizes are won every 4 games and you compete for titles, promotion, relegation etc, before points are reset again. Source: https://bit.ly/2YC7zny
Believe me! I know how gambling and FF works, and the skill and expertise involved in both.

For the likes of Sandor entering dozens or even hundreds of teams -what's the optimal strategy from their point of view?

With the game being almost identical to FPL I guess the Block defence strategy doesn't make the most sense?

Is it then a case of just using tonnes of different combinations of midfield and forward players?

I guess just pick as many combinations of the 30-40 viable players in various workable team structures knowing that at least one will be near perfect, then sack off the teams that don't perform as the season progresses.

I'd love to do it just as an experiment but neither money nor time are on my side.

Of course they can't verify people immediately!

What's the rush? Have you got any winnings to withdraw which is all the verification is needed for? Do it next month if you think you're going to win.

I entered my stuff yesterday morning and not yet verified. I haven't deposited any funds and was deliberately leaving it late to look at how many entries there were. Probably won't now, entered a few teams onto Fantasy bet instead, smaller prize but smaller buy in and entries capped at 10 per person so none of this 100 entries each stuff.

It might be capped at 10 but it doesn't mean people wont have more than 10 entries I very much doubt

Little bit harder to multi team across several accounts with ID checks I assume though

Strange thing to say, i'd rather they took a little longer and checked properly rather than rushed to meet the 24 hr guideline - bit of a stretch saying it means collusion

Doesnt stop you playing, like admin says they will verify you in the next few days

Don't get so angry with people, junior. It's not healthy for you. Today will be extremely busy for firms like FanTeam so be realistic about how many money laundering ID verifications they can process today which as I said are not needed to play but only when someone wants to withdraw winnings. Firms are open to high penalties if they don't verify IDs properly and document this.

Exactly, I'd have to use someone else's ID and docs to do so and given they have to be over 18 I could only really nick my wife's should I be so inclined. Not saying there aren't ways around it but it does make things like that harder to do (and illegal)

Is it me or does the high roller comp get your juices flowing.

Reminds me of the old poker days.

Some sick games used to run.

Btw, I had the same issue with IE...chrome works perfect though.
I see 5 people have parted with 2,625 euros each in the big high roller season game.

If there wasn’t such a huge overlay I would also concur that the mass team strategy would become counter productive beyond the level that was optimum for the individual manager.

Assuming of course they are being managed by one manager.

Wonder what the optimum actually is?

Most I have ever entered in any comp was 20 and that was full on.
You gave Salah the armband in both teams, right?

not sure how much large entries is going to help here, was thinking of 10 but might up it to 20. will not be easy to manage that many, you could end up hurting some teams once you reach a certain threshold, good luck to cujo, hopefully he doesn't have much else to do at the weekend;) surprised to see russ with as many. i don't recognise any of them from daily/weekly games but suspect a few i know of will appear.
Well this Cujo character had 65 teams or so in the last seasons season game. Around GW5-10 or so he had 60 teams in the top 100. At the end of the season only two teams in the top 100 (and those were between 90. and 100.). All of his teams were pretty similar and he usually made the exact same transfers to all of them.
